Abstract
For winding a coil winding having a non-circular cross-section of the body, a gear drive arrangement is used composed of noncircular toothed wheels in engagement with each other, for driving the bobbin or a rotating wire holder turning around a stationary bobbin to produce a substantially constant speed of the wire wound on the bobbin.

INVENTOR.
W16: THE X N DE R BY DRIVE MEANS FOR COIL WINDING MACHINES BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION section. A winding wire 2 is uncoiled from a storage roll, not shown, and wound onto the bobbin to form a coil 3. To the axis of the coil isattached a circular toothed wheel 4 which cooperates with another circular toothed wheel 5. This toothed wheel is immovably joined to a non-circular toothed wheel 6 which is in enbins, for example those having square or rectangular I cross-section, the wire cannot be coiled as fast as is possible with circular bobbins.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION According to the present invention the problem is solved in that, in stead of driving the non-circular bobbin with an even speed of rotation, resulting'in uneven .speed of the wire, the bobbin is driven witha variable speed so that an evenwire speed is obtained. This means that the risk of breaking the wire is considerably reduced and the winding speed can be greatly in creased. The characteristic of the invention is the use of a gear drive arrangement composed of non-circular toothed wheels in engagement with each other, for driving the bobbin or a rotating wire holder turning around a stationary bobbin to produce a substantially constant speedof the wire wound on the bobbin.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING The accompanying drawing shows the invention used on a winding machine having a bobbin with square cross section.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The drawing shows a bobbin 1 having square cross gagement with a second non-circular toothed wheel 7 which is attached to the shaft 8 which drives the winding machine.
If the shaft 8 rotates with an even speed, the toothed wheels 6,5 and 4, and thus also the bobbin, will rotate with a periodically variable speed. If the shape of the two non-circular toothed wheels 6 and 7 and the gearing between the toothed wheels 4 and 5 are correctly chosen, the wire 2 will be wound onto the bobbin with a substantially constant speed.
In the example shown, with a square bobbin, the
shape of the non-circular wheels is chosen so that the ratio between-the maximum and minimum gear ratio is V 2/1. Further, the gear ratio between the toothed wheels 5 and 4 is equal to 1/2. If the bobbin has some other shape, the ratio would be different and must be calculated from case to case.
The invention may also beused for winding machines of the spinner type where the bobbin is stationary and the wire-holder rotates around the bobbin. In this case the gear drive with the non-circular wheels is used to drive the wire-holder'so that it rotates with a variable speed.
I claim:
Y 1. Driving means for winding machines for the manufacture of coil windings having bobbins with square cross-section comprising a geardrive means for the bobbin for producing a substantially constant speed in the wire to be wound onto the bobbin, in which said gear drive means has a driving shaft (8) rotating with a constant speed and provided with a non-circular gear wheel (7) and a second non-circular wheel (6), meshing therewith,: and means operatively connecting said second non-circular wheel with said bobbin for driving the bobbin with an uneven speed of rotation.
