Y y 4 The flexible blades are each composed of a -central Spring-tempered steel rplatefand reenforcingside springs.
As before stated, all of the blades g g rotate in the same direction, but they are so set as not to strike or act on the goods j together. There are six sets of blades shown in the drawings; but this number may be varied as desired. rIhe first and fourth, second and fifth, and the third and sixth sets occupy similar angular positions, the angular differences between them being such that duringa short interval of time al1 of the blades are clear of the goods, thus allowing the goods to regain the normal tension due to the feeding device should it be altered by the action ot' the blades on theV goods.
It will he observed by referring to Fig. l that the blades g g are arranged on the shafts Affso that no two blades on different shafts are directly in line with one another, and it is necessary that the edges of the blades shall be opposed by or work on a uniform bed Y sur face, for which reason the leather straps e e are placed at an angle on the bed, so as to be di rectly under the blades.
It is found preferable to have the blades act on the goods in the direction in which they are drawn through the machine; and, to prevent the goods being drawn forward faster than the feeding device is set to act,the roller l, on which the goods are placed,is provided with a brake or retarding device, consisting of a strap, m, passing over the roller l, a lever, n, to one end of which the strap misfastened,and the weight o,p]aced on the other end ofthe lever n. This weight o is adjustable on the lever a, so that the friction between the strap m and roller l may be varied at pleasure. The rear and front guides,p and q, respectively, vary in height throughout their lengths in a similar manner to and for the same object asthe corresponding guides in my before-mentioned application; so it is here unnecessary to further enter into their construction. |The goods, after passing over the front guide, q, are wound up on the roller 1", which has a continuous rotary motion imparted to it by means of the worm-wheel r on its end, the worm s working therein and secured to the shaft ofthe conical pulley s', the reverse conical pulley t, driven by a gear-Wheel on the end of theshaft,a1id the connecting-belt 15.2 Thisbelt tzis controlled by the shifter u, actuated by thescrew u', provided with the hand- Wheel u, by the manipulation of which the belt t2 is shifted along the conical pulleys, and the speed of the windingnp roller r varied at pleasure.
The particular construction of the elastic bedb c d e and the guides p q shown in the drawings forms no part of the present invention, being described and claimed in my be fore-mentioned application.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. In a machine for finishing and polishing textile fabrics, in combination, an elastic bed, feeding mechanism for drawing thegoods over the bed, severalseries ofiiexible blades rotated in onedirection,arranged toact longitudinally on the goods and set in different angular positions, and devices for imparting a continuous rotary motion to the flexible blades, substantially as set forth.
2. In a machine for finishing and polishing,lr textile fabrics, in combination, an elastic bed, feeding mechanism for drawing the goods over the bed, several series of flexible blades rotated in one direction and arranged to actlongitudinally on the goods in the direction in which the goods travel over the bed, devices for imparting a continuous rotary motion to the flexible blades, and a brake or retarding device acting on the roller holding the goods, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. Ina machine for finishing and polishing textile fabrics, in combination, feeding mechanism for drawing the goods through the machine, transversely-arranged shafts, devices for continuously rotating the shafts, flexible blades secured to the transverse shafts so as to occupy different lateral positions in relation to the goods, and an elastic bed provided with strips of leather obliquely arranged thereon, between which and the flexible blades the goods are drawn, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. f
4. In combination, the side shaft, t, provided with bevel-pinions hh, the shaftsff, provided with bevel-wheels hh on one of their ends and similar bevel-wheels, h2 h2, on their other ends, the flexible rubbing-blades g g, secured to the shafts f f, and the elastic bed c d e, sub-A stantially as set forth.
