UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
or ro SCHLATIER, ADOLF SOHMID, AND HUGO nonrsonnn, or BER-NE, SWITZERLAND.
SURGEONS APPLIANCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 376,264, dated January 10, 1888.
Application filed June 30, 1857. Serial No. 242,966. (No model.)
To a whont it may concern.-
Be it known that we, OTTO SOHLATTER, ADOLF Saturn), and HUGO BURTsoHER, of Berne, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Surgeons Appliances, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a surgeons appli: ance consisting of a tube holding a bandage and salve, and has for its purpose to allow ready assistance to be given in case of accidents.
The invention consists of an inner and an outer hollow cylinder pressed from pure tin, which is little subject to oxidation, and made air and water tight, even if very thin, so as to prevent any volatile substances that may be contained in the tube from escaping.
The outer tube is closed by a cap of the same metal soldered onto it. The inner tube is somewhat shorter than the outer one. The inner tube is filled with a two-per-oent. thymol ointment or any other salve or dressingmatter of suitable composition, and it is closed by a screw-cap, the ointment being supplied in any desired quantity by pressing on the exterior bottom of the'tube. Round this tube is wound a bandage impregnated with any convenient solution. At the commencement of the bandageis wound in a piece of any suitable antiseptio wound-protective, at the other end being inserted apiece ofcaoutchouc ribbon in the shape of an elastic ring. The bottom of the larger or outer tube is filled with compressed wadding impregnated with boracic acid or other suitable solution.
exterior influences, their application being at the, same time without any dit'ficulty.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents an elevation of the device; Fig. 2, a cross section taken on line X X; Fig. 3, a vertical section taken on line Y Y of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is acrosssection taken on line Z Z of'Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a detached detail view of the inner tube.
Similar letters refer to similarparts throughout the drawings, in which a represents the outer and longer tube, open at the bottom and covered with a cap, a,within which tube is held, by the screw cap a", the smaller and shorter tube, 1), and around the upper portion of said tube is wound the band age 0. The lower portion of the said tube 11 is wound with the caontchouc ribbon d, and both the bandage and ribbon contain or carry the fastener e. In the lower portion of the larger tube, a, within the cap a, is arranged a suitable amount of lint or wadding,f.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new,and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
The bandage, salve, and lint carrying contrivance consisting of the combination of the outer tube, (1, opened at its bottom and covered by the removable cap a, and the inner tube, 12, closed and held within the said outer tube, a, by means of the screw-cap (t the whole device adapted to carry the articles herein referred to, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof we hereunto sign our names, in thepresence of two subscribing witnesses, this 29th day of April, 1887.
