SHEEI 1 BF 2 FIG.1
PATENTED BET 21975 sum 2 or 2 New RIVET HEAD FORMING TOOL This invention pertains to a rivet head forming tool in riveting machine. Heretofore, to journal rotatably the forming shaft in a rivet head forming tool by assembling the upper end portion of the forming shaft in the tool through the bearings, the intermediate portion of the forming tool was cut slantwise, a recess and a through-hole perpendicular respectively to the slant section were formed, subsequently the bearings were fitted in the recess and into the through-hole was inserted the forming shaft, but it was very difficult to cut the tool slantwise and to assemble connectedly the slant section.
A primary object of this invention is to provide a contrivance wherein assembly of the forming shaft can be performed very easily.
A second object of this invention is to provide a contrivance wherein the locking mechanism for setting the forming shaft is simple and therefore replacement thereof. 7
The objects above mentioned may be accomplished by parts, combination and operation constructing the present invention, and an embodiment thereof will be illustrated by the accompanying drawings and the detailed explanation described hereinafter.
FIG. 1 is a side viewof the riveting machine.
FIG. 2 is a partially sectioned perspective view of the rivet head forming tool to be mounted in riveting machine.
FIG. 3 is a longitudinally sectioned front view of the same.
FIG. 4 is an exploded perspective view of the principal parts of the same.
In FIG. 1, 11 indicate the riveting machine, and this riveting machine 11 comprises a post 13 erected on a base board 12, a cylinder 14 attached to the front side of the upper end of the post 13, a shaft 15 rotatable with respect to this cylinder 14 and movable up and down by actuation of the cylinder 14, to the upper end of said shaft 15 being connected directly a motor- 16 and to the lower end of said shaft 15 being attached a rivet head forming tool 17, a table 18 attached movably up and down to the front side of the post 13 to be positioned right below the forming tool 17, and a rivet head receiver 19 mounted on said table 18.
In FIGS. 2, 3, 4, 20 is a base body constructing the forming tool 17, from the center in the upper side of said base body is formed a tapped hole 21 directed downward in which the lower end of said shaft 15 is screwed for connection. 22 is a recessed hole formed upward and obliquely outwardly from around the center of the lower end side of the base body 20, 23 is the forming shaft in the lower end of which is formed the rivet head forming concave 24, on the upper portion of the forming shaft 23 is fitted a cylindrical body 26 through the bearings 25, and also this cylindrical body 26 is fitted tightly not to wobble within the recessed hole 22. 27 is a tapped hole to penetrate from the outer periphery of the lower end portion of the base body 20 to the inner periphery of the recessed hole 22, into this tapped hole 27 is screwed a screw 28 pressed against the outer surface of the cylindrical body 26 at the point thereof whereby the cylindrical body 26 is prevented from coming out of the recessed hole 22.
29 is a projected shaft formed being extended from the upper end of the forming shaft 23, in the outer peripheral surface of the upper portion of the projected shaft 29 is formed an annular groove 30. 31 is a collar fitted on the projected shaft 29, at the lower edge of said collar 31 is formed a flange 32 the lower side of which is confronted nearly contactedly with the upper edge of the cylindrical body 26. 33 is an annular recessed shoulder portion formed downward from the upper edge of the collar 31 to such a depth as that the lower edge thereof coincides with the lower edge of the annular groove 30, in the bottom of the recessed shoulder portion 33 are set the U-shaped spring rods to be fitted in the annular groove 30, and also a ring 35 is fitted forcedly in the annular recessed shoulder portion 33 to prevent the spring rods 34 from coming out. 36 is a thrust bearing interposed between the upper side of the flange 32 and the bottom of the recessed hole 22, 37 is an annular groove formed in the periphery of the forming shaft 23 to be positioned slightly lower than the lower edge of the cylindrical body 26, in this annular groove 37 is fitted the pointed portion of a plate body to remove the forming shaft 23.
When the forming shaft 23 is set in the base body 20, the axis of the forming shaft 23 is slanted with an angle with respect to the axis of the base body 20, but the center in the bottom of the forming concave 24 of the forming shaft 23 is to coincide with the axis line of said base body 20.
To set rotatably the forming shaft 23 in the forming tool 17 in the riveting machine 11 according to the present invention mentioned above, the thrust bearing 36 fitted on the collar 31 is fitted in the bottom of the recessed hole 22, and then the cylindrical body 26 is inserted from the opening at the lower edge of the recessed hole 22, the cylindrical body 26 inserted is set by the set screw 28 screwed into the tapped hole 27 to prevent the cylindrical body 26 from coming out, and while the forming shaft 23 is inserted into the bearings 25 of the cylindrical body 26, in the annular groove 30 on the projected shaft 29 at the upper end of the forming shaft 23 are fitted both parallel portion of the spring rod 34, and thereby the forming shaft 23 is supported not to come out downward and to be rotatable freely with respect to the base body 20.
According to the present invention, it requires to form only one recessed hole and to insert the cylindrical body into the recessed hole, and it makes any other works unnecessary, and also it eliminates the polishing of the contacting surface of each slant section, and parts and labour required for joining the slant section. Against this there was a great difficulty in cutting the upper portion of the base body to cross obliquely the axis of the base body and in forming a hole with a shoulder in the section of the upper portion for fitting the thrust bearing and a different diameter hole in the lower portion with the same axis to that of the upper hole to fit the forming shaft through bearings. And also, the spring rod 34 to be fitted in the annular groove 30 of the projected shaft 29 of the forming shaft 23 is inserted in the recessed shoulder portion 33 from the upper edge of the collar 31, and as thereafter the ring 35 is fitted tightly in the annular recessed shoulder portion 33 to prevent the spring rod 34 from coming ou, the set of the spring rod 34 can be achieved only to drop said rod into the annular recessed shoulder portion 33 prior to fitting of the ring 35, and so there is no necessity of a very difficult operation for fitting it into the annular groove by compressing it as heretobefore.
