Abstract

An arcuately curved S-shaped plate is clamped to the cross bar of a yacht mop and has a synthetic fiber pad extending from the clamp around the lower curved portion to be engaged through a slot in the plate so that it is clamped between the plate and the body of the pad. It can be used for scrubbing action on areas which cannot be cleaned by the yacht mop alone.

.UNITED STATES PATENTS 2,482,163 9/1949 Finnellm 15/209 AH 1 Claim, 4 Drawing Figures COMBINATION OF A YACHT MOP AND SCRUBBING PAD BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to. new and useful improvements in floor cleaning devices and includes means for mopping floors with an attachment to enable the operator to add a scrubbing action in order to remove dirt or grime which cannot be removed by the mop.

When mopping floors with what is commonly known as a yacht mop, it is often necessary for the operator to stop the mopping action and utilize a scrubbing device in order to remove a particularly obstinate stain or portion of dirt or grime.

This is time consuming and means that the operator has to go down on his knees for this purpose.

Furthermore it is often desirable to clean underneath the lower edges of counters and the like and this is not always possible with conventional yacht mops particularly as grime from the feet of the user often lodges in these locations.

SUMMARY OF THEINVENTION The present devices overcomes the disadvantages inherent with standard yacht mops by providing a plate to which may be detachably secured an elongated scrubber pad made of synthetic fiber or the like.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character herewithin described which enables the operator to add scrubbing action in order to remove spots or stains which cannot be removed by a conventional yacht mop.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character herewithin described which is suitable particularly for the removal of spots and dirt from walls, floors, doors, steel cabinets and the like and which is adapted for use in households, schools, hospitals, universities, office buildings and the industrial establishments.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character herewithin described which can be used for the removal of wax from the floors, baseboards and stairways and is useful for cleaning in corners, behind doorsteps, underneath radiators, and in all areas which cannot be reached with a scrubbing machine.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character herewithin described which can be attached to a conventional yacht mop.

A yet further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character herewithin described which is simple in construction, economical in manufacture and otherwise well suited to the purpose for which it is designed.

With the considerations and inventive objects herein set forth in view, and such other or further purposes, advantages or noveal features as may become apparent from consideration of this disclosure and specification, the present invention consists of the inventive concept whichis comprised, embodied, embraced, or included in the method, process, construction, composition, arrangement or combination of parts, or new use of any of the foregoing, herein exemplified in one or more specific embodiments of such concept, reference being bad to the accompanying Figures in which:

DETAILED DESCRIPTION Proceeding therefore to describe the invention in detail, FIGS. 1 to 4 inclusive show a conventional wooden handle 10 secured to a metal frame 11 by means of rivets or bolts 12. This metal frame consists substantially of a bottom transverse strap portion 13 and upwardly inclining legs 14 extending from the ends thereof terminating in the parallel portions 15 by which the frame is attached to the aforementioned handle 10 as hereinbefore described.

Conventionally, a yacht mop 16 includes a sewn central portion 17 and a lower plate or strap 18. A central screw threaded bolt 20 also extends upwardly from the strap 18 through a similar aperture within the transverse portion 13 and a wing nut 21 normally clamps the yacht mop into position upon the transverse strap portion 13.

I utilize this form of fastening in conjunction with an arcuately curved metal plate 22 having an upper portion 23 with a central aperture 25 through which the bolt 20 extends. A length of scrubbing material such as synthetic fiber is indicated by reference character 26 and this is held between the metal plate 22 and the transverse strap portion 13 of the frame 1 l. The fibrous material extends around the lower curved portion 28 of the metal plate 22 and over the lower end 29 passing downwardly through a transverse slot 30 formed adja cent the edge 29 and being clamped between the main body portion 31 of the fibrous material and the metal plate as clearly shown in FIG. 2. In operation, the yacht mop is used conventionally but when it is desired to use the scrubbing device, the mop may be turned over and the general area of the pad 26 indicated by reference character 32 may be engaged with the floor surface for scrubbing.

Various modifications can be made within the scope of the inventive concept which is herein disclosed and- /or claimed.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. The combination of a yacht mop including a handle, a substantially U-shaped frame having a pair of side portions secured to the lower end of said handle and a transverse bight portion connecting the lower ends of said side portions in downwardly spaced relation from the handle, a mop member depending from said bight portion of said frame, an attachment screw securing said mop member to said bight portion, and a scrubbing attachment comprising a substantially S-shaped plate having an upper portion mounted on said screw, said plate extending downwardly along one side of said mop member and also having a lower portion extending laterally away from the mop member, said lower portion being provided with a transverse slot, and a substantially S-shaped scrubbing pad juxtaposed to one side of said plate adjacent said mop member, said pad having an upper portion interposed between said plate and said frame bight portion and secured therein by said screw, the pad also including a lower portion underlying the lower portion of said plate and supportably threaded through said slot in the latter.
