A section contiguous with one of the side sections which forms a top section of the box and has rounded locking tabs extending therefrom on two of the sides for cooperation with the lock sections. The edge of the top section opposite the edge contiguous with an edge of one of theside sections is attached to the opposite edge of an opposite side section by a glue flap which is perforated for removal of the top section upon opening the box. The entire top section including the rounded locking tabs being folded underneath sections forming the octagon resulting in a convenient place mat.
1 clai s Drawing Figures soon CARRYING PAPER sox BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a food box and more particularly to a food box which can be conveniently folded out to form a place mat.
According to the invention, a food box is provided in which the bottom and side sections together with connecting sections form an octagon. The top section-extends from one edge of one of the side sections and that edge is bordered by two rounded locking tabs for cooperation with lock sections in two of the side sections. The opposite side section from the edge from which the side section extends has a perforated glue flap which cooperates with the side which is glued to the side of the top section opposite the edge attached to the edge of the one of the side sections. The connecting sections between the side sections are preferrably scored for easy assembly as well as the lock sections receiving the round locking tabs. The round locking tabs are-also preferrably scored to facilitate easy assembly, the rest of the sections being joined by folds.
An object of the present invention is the provision of an improved paper food box.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a paper food box which is extremely simple to manufacture and assemble.
A further objectof the invention is the provision of a paperfood box which can be conveniently converted to a place mat. I g
Other objects and many of the atendant advantages will be readily appreciated as the same becomes better understood by reference to the following detailed description when considered inconnection with the accompanying drawings in which like referencenumerals designate like parts througout the FIGS thereof and wherein:
FIG. 1 is a top view of the preferred a partially assembled-food bos; g
FIG."2 is a perspective viewof the embodiment of FIG. 1 further assembled; and
embodiment of FIG. 3 is a top view of the embodiment of FIG. 1
folded out as a placeomat.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION or TH DRAWING Referring to FIG. 1, a food box is shown generally at 11 having side sections 12, 13, 14 and 15. A top section 16 has rounded locking tabs 17 and 18 extending therefrom. Side sections 13 and 15 have lock sections 19 and 21 for cooperation with rounded locking tabs 17 and 18, respectively. Side section 12 has a glue flap extension 22 for cooperation with the lower surface of front section 16 together with perforation 23.Lock sections Referring to FIG 3, side section 12,13,14 and 15 are shown connected by connecting sections 27,28,29 and 31. The perforations 23 (FIG. 1) have been torn resulting in a recess in side section 12. Top section 16 has been folded underneath side section 14 and bottom section 37 making a place mat consisting of side sections 12,13,14 and 15, and connecting sections 27,28,29 and 31 and bottom section 37.
Referring back to all of the FIGS, it can be seen that beginning with a folded down box, i.e., the glue flap 22 being glued to the top section 16 and the entire box folded in a flat position, the assembly merely requires a folding in an upright position with one end being closed by one of the locking tabs 17 or 18. The food to be packaged is then placed into the box and the opposite locking tab moved into place. The scoring of the lock section s19 and 21 at 24 and 26, respectively, render this an extremely easy assembly which is aided by rounding of locking tabs 17 and 18 at their tips. Other time saving features include the scoring of the connecting sections 27,28,29 and 31 to overcome any resistence to a fold. Knotches 15 and'25 are cut into the overall pattern to facilitate the folded dimension of the resultant sides 13 and 15 after the connecting sections have been folded into position along their scores. Glue flap 22 reinforces top section 16 so that when a users thumb, for example, punches out-a part of perforations 23 and pulls top 16 back the tear will be along perfora tion 23 and not in the top section 16 itself. 1
It should be understood of course, that the foregoing disclosure relates to only-a preferred embodiment of the invention and that it is intended to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for the purposes of the disclosure which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention. The invention claimed is:
1. A paper box for carrying food comprising:
a bottom section;
first, second, third and fourth side sections extending from said bottom section;
first, second, third and fourth connecting sections,
each of said connecting sections extending between a different pair of said first, second, third and fourth side sections, the said first, second, third and fourth side sections the said bottom section and the said first, second, third and fourth connecting sections each having folded scoreand forming an octagonal sheet dimensioned for forming a place mat;
first and second lock section sin said second and fourth side sections;
first and second rounded locking tabs extending from first and second edges of said top sections, said first and second locking tabs being. dimensioned and geometrically disposed for cooperation with said fisn and second lock sections; and
a glue flap extending from said third side section dimensioned and positioned for being glued along one edge of said top section, said glue flap being perforated for opening said top' section,
said third side section has a perforated thumb section in communication with the perforations of said glue flap when the box is assembled.
