It is among the objects of my invention to provide an automatic cleaning unit that can clean lint and all foreign matters from a quill winder machine.
Another object of my invention is to provide an automatic air cleaning unit that can be put in and out of operation with the winding cycle of the quill winder machine.
Yet another object of my invention is to provide a cleaning unit that can be attached to the present quill winder as shown in W.V. Goodhue et al. U.S. Pat. No. 2,785,704 which is attached to the weaving loom as shown in U.S. Pat. No. 2,638,936.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will appear from the description herein below and the accompanying drawings wherein:
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a cut away front view of the quill winder machine that is shown in FIG. 1 of W.V. Goodhue et al. U.S. Pat. No. 2,785,704 to which my invention of the cleaning unit is attached.
FIG. 2 is a rear view of the quill winder and an assembled view of my invention of the cleaning unit that is connected to the quill winder and the casted frame of the weaving loom.
FIG. 3 is an expanded over all view of the air tube positioning comb bracket with an air tube connected to it by the means of a locking guide clamp.
FIG. 4 is an expanded side view of the comb bracket with an air tube locked into position with the locking guide clamp.
FIG. 5 is a cut away portion along the line 5-5 of FIG. 2 that is an elevated view of the protruding retriever cycle lever and the micro switch.
FIG. 6 is a diagram of the electrical connections used in controling the cleaning unit.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The present invention is limited to an attachment for known quill winders, especially those of the type disclosed by the cited U.S. Pat. No. 2,785,704, and is not directed to the winder structure per se. For classification, the disclosed embodiment may be considered as attached to the winder structure of said patent so that reference thereto may be had for structural and operational details related to bobbin winding. As incorporated with the present invention, when the quill winder is actuated to accept an empty quill for winding, the cleaning unit begins its cleaning operation which continues until the winding of the bobbin is complete.
Referring now to the drawings in detail. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, bracket 30 attached to the quill winder frame adjacent to the winding area mounts a plurality of air tubes 13 by means of locking clamps 31. The tubes 13 are positioned so that their nozzle end portions will direct air, delivered under pressure, through tubes 13 over the winding area and over a quill being wound therein.
The guide clamp is moved up or down inside the comb slots in order to direct the air in any position desired and is then locked into place by the screw 33. To change the position of the air tubes 13 to the left or right the tubes are positioned in a different comb slot as desired. The locking clamp, FIG. 4, holds each air tube 13 in place by tighting the screw 33 which will press the wings of said clamps against the back and front walls of the comb bracket 30. The comb bracket is held in place on the casted frame 9a FIG. 2 of the weaving loom by the means of the holes 32 FIG. 3.
In FIG. 2 the compressed air supplied by any known means enters the main pipe 24 that is connected the filter bowl 19 by the means of a nipple 20 coupling 21 and a compression fitting 22,23. The filter bowl 19 is used in extracting all water from the compressed air coming into the unit.
The solenoid valve 16 that stops and starts the flow of air into the air block 10 is connected to said filter bowl by the means of a coupling 17 and nipple 18. The air block 10 is connected to the solenoid valve 16 by a coupling 14 and nipple 1S. Said air block is mounted on the frame 9b of the weaving loom. The loom that is shown as aforesaid in U.S. Pat. No. 2,638,936.
The air tubes 13 are connected at one end to said air block by the means of compression fittings 11,12. At the other end the tubes are connected to the comb bracket 30 in their desired positions by the means of the locking clamp 31. The said comb bracket is mounted on the frame 9a of the loom. Let it be known that the air tubes 13 are made of a flexible material for the shaping and placing in the desired slots and positions of said comb bracket.
Solenoid value 16 is controlled by on electrical circuit generally illustrated in FIG. 6. The circuit, including leads 34 and 35, is connected with a power source and has a manually operated control such as toggle switch 25. Also included is a micro switch means 26,27,28 which may be automatically operated to interrupt or complete the circuit with solemoid 16. The micro switch is controlled between open and closed positions by lever 29 which operates in synchronism with the operation of the quill winder. The retriever lever 29, FIG. 5, moves to the left when the quill winder 9 starts its cycle to wind a bobbin 36, FIG. 1. The lever 29 then pushes the hinged lever 27 to operate the circuit 28 which then opens the solenoid valve 16 and allows the air to go into the air block 10 where it is distributed into the tubes 13. When the bobbin is wound and the cycle is finished the lever 29 moves to the right and breaks the circuit in the micro switch 26 whereby the solenoid valve closes and stops the air going through to clean the quill winder machine until the next cycle starts.
The air coming out of the tubes 13 FIG. 1 is generally indicating the cleaning of all lint and foreign matters from the quill winders moving parts such as the yarn guide 38 bobbin 36 traverse bar 37 bobbin grips 39 and many other moving parts not shown.
I claim:
1. In combination with a quill winder having a frame and including means to position, hold and rotate a quill for winding: a cleaning unit stationarily mounted on said frame comprising a plurality of nozzles positioned adjacent said holding and rotating means for directing streams of air under pressure over said quill during winding thereof, means supplying said air under presoperating said valve to open and close the air passage of the main air line to said air block.
4. The combination according to claim 3, wherein said air block is provided with a plurality of compression fittings which couple a plurality of air tubes therewith and wherein said nozzles are located at the ends of said air tubes.
5. The combination according to claim 4, wherein comb means having cut slots and locking clamps mount said tubes on said frame.

Claims (5)

1. In combination with a quill winder having a frame and including means to position, hold and rotate a quill for winding: a cleaning unit stationarily mounted on said frame comprising a plurality of nozzles positioned adjacent said holding and rotating means for directing streams of air under pressure over said quill during winding thereof, means supplying said air under pressure to said nozzles and control means operative to cause said supplying means to deliver said air and to subsequently stop delivery of said air in sequence with the operation of said quill winder.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said supplying means includes a main air line having mounted thereon by pressure fittings a filter bowl, a solenoid valve and an air block.
3. The combination according to claim 2, wherein said control means include a toggle switch controllable by said winder and connected to said solenoid valve for operating said valve to open and close the air passage of the main air line to said air block.
4. The combination according to claim 3, wherein said air block is provided with a plurality of compression fittings which couple a plurality of air tubes therewiTh and wherein said nozzles are located at the ends of said air tubes.
5. The combination according to claim 4, wherein comb means having cut slots and locking clamps mount said tubes on said frame.
