It is common practice in the building trade to hand the mounting assembly is generally referred to by the craft a box or form on the jobsite and mount it adjacent the elevator door opening prior to pouring a concrete floor. After the concrete has dried, the box isremoved and an elevator door sill is mounted on brackets and concrete is poured into the opening so that the concrete floor will be continuous with the sill. In many instances the hand crafted boxor form is not accurately positioned which will require the removal'of dried concrete in order to accurately. position the elevator door cost for elevator installations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION With the foregoing in mind it is an object of the present invention to provide a mounting assembly which can be prefabricated prior to installation at the jobsite and which is provided with'mounting means to accurately position the mounting assembly at an elevator door opening prior to the completion of a finished floor and also provide adjustable mounting means for accurately positioning the elevator sill for use with the elevator door. It is also an object of the invention to provide an inexpensive device or assembly whichis easily and economically manufactured and which is easily and readily installed with a high degree of accuracy and in minimum time. My invention generally contemplates providing a mounting assembly for accurately positioning elevator door sills at the elevator opening after a concrete floor has been poured and dried. The mounting assembly includes a housing in which adjustable mounting means is provided for rigidly fixing the housing in position to the superstructure and means are also provided for adjustably mounting the elevator door sill accurately in position after the floor has been completed.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS For a better understanding of the invention, the following drawings illustrate the mounting assembly for accurately positioning an elevator door sill.

Housing 12 is preferably made of a malleable steel of a type which is suitable for forming or extrusion. Housing 12 is formed as a trough having at least two longitudinally extended slots or channels 14 and 16 in its base 13 which are parallel to each other and in section resemble a trapezoid. As illustrated in FIG. 2, the trapezoidal slots14 and 16 are formed in which the opening of the slot lies within the housing 12. Third and fourth trapezoidal slots 18 and 20 are formed in which the opening of the slot lies outside of the trough or housing 12 and form part of the adjustable mounting means for anchoring the housing in position prior to mounting sill 30. Trapezoidal slot 20 is formed in base 13 with the slot opening formed on the exterior of the base. Trapezoidal slot 18 is formed in wall 35 and has the slot opening also formed on the exterior of the wall.
Disposed in slots 14 and 16 are anchor means 22 having a Hat base portion 24 and depending flange portions 26 formed so as to slidably engage the sides 21 and 23 of trapezoidal slots 14 and 16. Rigidly mounted to base 24 of anchor means 22 is upstanding bolt 27 having a threaded end 28 so as to threadably engage nut 29.

In this connection, as shown in FIG. 2, bolt 27 is mounted on the flange of an iron beam through an opening formed therein. Housing 12 is bolted thereto and held in fixed position by nut 29 by threading nut 29 on threaded end 28 of bolt 27.
A second anchor means 22 not shown is slidably mounted within trapezoidal slot 20 and is similarly anchored to an adjacent iron beam so that housing 12 is accurately mounted in position prior to pouring the concrete floor. In this connection another anchoring means similar to anchor means 22 may be employed slidably mounted within trapezoidal slot 18 as shown in FIG. 2. Bolt 27 is shown embedded in the concrete after the floor has been poured. This serves as additional anchoring means for holding housing 12 in position. A weakened zone or scoreline 32 and 33 are formed extending the length of the housing 12 on upstanding walls 34 and 35. These may be formed so that under certain conditions portions of upstanding walls 34 and 35 can be severed from housing 12 by simply bending the wall forward and then bringing the wall back to a straightened position. This will cause the portion of the upstanding wall to be severed therefrom. It has been found in many cases that portions of housing 12 may be required to be removed to allow the housing to be subsequently embedded in the concrete floor or to provide clearance for mounting elevator sill 30 in position as shown in FIG. 2.
Anchor means 22 is slidably mounted in slots 14 and 16 of housing 12 for adjustably mounting sill mounting means 42 for positioning sill 30 in fixed rigid position. Thus, anchor means 22 comprises a flat base 24 with depending flanges 26 extending therefrom. Mounted to base 24 in rigid position is bolt 27. Sill mounting means 42 is mounted on bolt 27 and is held in position by nut 29 which is in threaded engagement with bolt 27. Sill mounting means 42 is mounted in position in housing 12 by anchor means 22. Sill mounting means 42 is formed employing a pair ofL shaped angles so as to form an adjustable Z bar and, when mounted in position, the horizontal portions of the Z bar extend along the plane of the base of the housing 12 and along the plane of the finished floor. Thus, the lower horizontal portion of the L shaped angle 44 has a base member 45 with an opening formed therein so that bolt 27 of anchoring means 22 will pass therethrough. Nut 29 rigidly holds angle 44 in position. Extending from base 45 of angle 44 is vertical leg 46.
A second angle 48 is similarly constructed to angle 44 and is formed having an opening or a hole therein on horizontal leg 49 for mounting elevator sill 30. The vertical leg 50 of angle 48 lies fiat against vertical leg 46 of angle 44. As shown in FIG. 2, bolts 54 are mounted in diametrically opposed square slots 56 and 58 of vertical legs 46 and 50. This permits angle 48 to be moved in a vertical and horizontal plane to adjust the height and align sill 30 when finally mounted in position. At least two pairs of sill mounting means 42 will be required to mount sill 30 accurately in position.
When housing 12 is mounted in position and prior to pouring the concrete, floor end plates 50 are pressure fitted or snapped into place on each end of the housing so as to form a box and also to prevent'concrete from flowing into the housing.
End plate 51 has an upstanding wall 52 and extending perpendicular from each vertical side are flaps 55 which frictionally engage the outer surfaces of the vertical walls 34 and 35 of housing 12. Also extending from the base of vertical wall 52 and which are in alignment with the base of trapezoidal slots 14 and 16 are tabs 56 which fit into the slots to hold the end plate 51 in position and prevent it from sliding vertically downward.

Bracket 60 is made in the form of an L and fits into housing 12 such that the base 62 of the L lays fiat against the base 13 of housing 12 and the vertical leg 64 of the L contacts the vertical wall 34 of housing 12. L shaped bracket 60 terminates in an inverted U in which openings are made to allow nails to be driven into a wooden form. As shown in FIG. 4 nail 66 is driven into the wooden form. The nails are provided with a double head 68 so that when the concrete floor has been poured the nails can be removed and the L shaped bracket can subsequently be removed by unbolting the bracket 60 from anchor means 22.
FIG. 5 is a fragmentary top plan view of FIG. 4 and illustrates the positioning of L shaped bracket 60 having openings 65 for positioning nails 66 therethrough. In practice, at least two such brackets 60 would be employed so as to accurately align housing 12 at the elevator opening as shown in FIG. 1A.
When employing my mounting assembly, housing 12 is mounted in position at the elevator opening either employing anchor means 22 which is slidably mounted in trapezoidal slot 20 and bolted to the eye beam of the superstructure of the building as shown in FIG. 2, or would be mounted in position as shown in FIG. 4 or a suitable bracket means could be mounted to the anchor means 22 slidably mounted in trapezoidal slot 18. It has been found that two or more anchor means 22 mounted in trapezoidal slot 20 or L shaped brackets 60 are necessary to properly align housing 12 at the elevator opening. End plates 50 are then mounted on housing 12 as described above and the concrete floor is then poured. After the floor has dried, sill mounting means 42 is mounted in housing 12 and held in fixed position by anchor means 22 mounted in trapezoidal slots 14 and 16. At least a pair of sill mounting means are employed for adjustably mounting the elevator sill in fixed position. Thereafter, housing 12 is filled with concrete to complete the floor so that the elevator doors for closing the elevator opening are mounted in position.
I claim:
1. A mounting assembly for accurately positioning an elevator door sill at the elevator door opening after a concrete floor has been poured and dried comprising:
a housing having base and vertical side walls;
means formed on the housing to adjustably position and mount the housing accurately in position to the building superstructure and in alignment with the elevator opening;
anchor means slidably mounted in the base of the housing and adapted to mount adjustable sill mounting means thereon so as to accurately position the sill at the elevator opening in fixed position.
2. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the mounting means for accurately positioning and mounting the housing to the building superstructure includes a trapezoidal slot formed in the base of the housing with the slot opening facing exteriorally of the base and slidable anchor means slidably mounted in the trapezoidal slot, the anchor means having means for fastening the housing to the superstructure.

The assembly of claim 1 wherein the housing is formed having a pair of longitudinal slots extending the length of the housing, said slots being spaced apart and parallel to each other, said slots having slidable anchor means mounted therein and adapted to mount sill mounting means thereon for accurately positioning the I elevator sill at the elevator opening.
4. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the base is formed having a longitudinally extending slot for removably mounting an L shaped bracket having means thereon for mounting to the superstructure of the building so as to accurately position and align the housing assembly at the elevator opening.
5. The assembly of claim 1 wherein a vertical wall has formed therein at least one weakened zone to facilitate severing at least a portion of the wall from the housing.
6. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the housing has mounted on each end removable end plates so as to form a box.
7. A mounting assembly for accurately positioning an elevator door sill at the elevator door opening after a concrete floor has been poured and dried comprising:
a housing having base and vertical side walls;
means formed in the housing for mounting the housing accurately in position to the building superstructure at the elevator opening;
anchor means slidably mounted in the base of the housing and adapted to mount adjustable sill mounting means thereon so as to accurately position the sill at the elevator opening in fixed position; and
said adjustable sill mounting means being removably mounted in fixed position in the housing, said sill mounting means comprising a pair of L shaped angles adjustably mounted to each other so as to be slidable in the horizontal and vertical planes, said sill mounting means adapted to removably mount an elevator sill in accurate fixed position. 8. The assembly of claim 7 wherein the sill mounting means has formed therein rectangular slots positioned at right angles with respect to each other so that bolt

Claims (8)

1. A mounting assembly for accurately positioning an elevator door sill at the elevator door opening after a concrete floor has been poured and dried comprising: a housing having base and vertical side walls; means formed on the housing to adjustably position and mount the housing accurately in position to the building superstructure and in alignment with the elevator opening; anchor means slidably mounted in the base of the housing and adapted to mount adjustable sill mounting means thereon so as to accuraTely position the sill at the elevator opening in fixed position.
2. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the mounting means for accurately positioning and mounting the housing to the building superstructure includes a trapezoidal slot formed in the base of the housing with the slot opening facing exteriorally of the base and slidable anchor means slidably mounted in the trapezoidal slot, the anchor means having means for fastening the housing to the superstructure.

The assembly of claim 1 wherein the housing is formed having a pair of longitudinal slots extending the length of the housing, said slots being spaced apart and parallel to each other, said slots having slidable anchor means mounted therein and adapted to mount sill mounting means thereon for accurately positioning the elevator sill at the elevator opening.
4. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the base is formed having a longitudinally extending slot for removably mounting an L shaped bracket having means thereon for mounting to the superstructure of the building so as to accurately position and align the housing assembly at the elevator opening.
5. The assembly of claim 1 wherein a vertical wall has formed therein at least one weakened zone to facilitate severing at least a portion of the wall from the housing.
6. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the housing has mounted on each end removable end plates so as to form a box.
7. A mounting assembly for accurately positioning an elevator door sill at the elevator door opening after a concrete floor has been poured and dried comprising: a housing having base and vertical side walls; means formed in the housing for mounting the housing accurately in position to the building superstructure at the elevator opening; anchor means slidably mounted in the base of the housing and adapted to mount adjustable sill mounting means thereon so as to accurately position the sill at the elevator opening in fixed position; and said adjustable sill mounting means being removably mounted in fixed position in the housing, said sill mounting means comprising a pair of L shaped angles adjustably mounted to each other so as to be slidable in the horizontal and vertical planes, said sill mounting means adapted to removably mount an elevator sill in accurate fixed position.
8. The assembly of claim 7 wherein the sill mounting means has formed therein rectangular slots positioned at right angles with respect to each other so that bolt means passing therethrough adjustably mount the sill mounting means in rigid position, said rectangular slots providing guide means for adjusting the sill mounting means in the vertical and horizontal planes.
