3 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures FLOOR SCRAPER SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A floor scraper having a framework and a motor mounted thereon, a cam rotated by said motor having an eccentric face, said cam applying a reciprocal action to a cutter blade, the cutter blade being held by a blade holder pivotally mounted on said framework and yieldably urged into one position.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT In the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a framework on which the motor 2 is mounted and extending from which is the sectional handle 3. Mounted on the motor 2 by means of the clamp 4, is the clutch housing 5. A clutch 6 connects the drive shaft 7 of the motor with the cam drive shaft 8, one end of the cam drive shaft 8 being mounted in the bearings 9, 9, and a threaded, reduced extension 10 of the cam drive shaft 8 receives the eccentric cam 11. A pivotal housing 12 is mounted on the housing by means of the collar 13, and in the housing 12 is the oscillating head consisting of the wheel yoke 14 having the driven wheels 15, 15 which are in bearing relation with the eccentric face of the cam 11. A pivotal arm 16 is mounted on the housing 12 and the blade holding means 21 maintains a blade 20 therein, and a spring 17 bears against the arm 16 and the housing 12 to maintain the arm 16 constantly urged yieldably downwardly. An adjusting bolt 18 permits variations in the degree of tension on the arm 16. The blade 20 may be of the desired size, variations being contemplated in accordance with the work being performed.

The wheels 15, mounted in vertical alignment in the head, bear against the eccentric cam face 11, and as the motor 2 rotates the cam 11, the housing 12 moves in vertical oscillation, exerting a driving force on the blade 20, causing the pressure of the weight of the device on the blade, against the spring 17, to convert the oscillations into a forward drive, and which action may be varied, as by adjusting the bolt 18, the upward movement of the arm 16 may be increased or decreased, and the greater pressure exerted on the arm, the less upward movement will be generated.

A spring as 21 is mounted in the handle socket 22, and bears against the end of the handle 3, to act as a shock absorber during machine operation. A bolt as 23, mounted in an elongated passageway through the handle 3, permits movement of the handle in the socket as the machine operates, cushioning the shock of impact of the cutter blade.

What I claim is:

1. In a scraper, aframework having a driving means and a shaft driven by said driving means, a cam having an eccentric face mounted on said shaft, an oscillating head mounted on said framework adjacent to and in longitudinal alignment with said shaft and a pair of contact wheels one on each side of said head and in contact with said eccentric face so that said head will be oscillated by said cam as said driving shaft rotates, a vertically pivotal arm mounted on said head and yieldably maintained in scraping position and a scraping blade mounted on said arm.

2. The device defined in claim 1 wherein said vertically pivotal arm is yieldably mounted on said head and maintained in a selected scraping position by means of an adjustable spring extending from said head and bearing against said arm.

3. The device defined in claim 1 wherein a receiving chamber is formed on said framework in which a yieldable support is mounted against which said handle bears, said handle having an elongated longitudinal port formed therein, and anchoring means extending through said port and through aligned ports in said framework.

Claims (3)

1. In a scraper, a framework having a driving means and a shaft driven by said driving means, a cam having an eccentric face mounted on said shaft, an oscillating head mounted on said framework adjacent to and in longitudinal alignment with said shaft and a pair of contact wheels one on each side of said head and in contact with said eccentric face so that said head will be oscillated by said cam as saiD driving shaft rotates, a vertically pivotal arm mounted on said head and yieldably maintained in scraping position and a scraping blade mounted on said arm.

2. The device defined in claim 1 wherein said vertically pivotal arm is yieldably mounted on said head and maintained in a selected scraping position by means of an adjustable spring extending from said head and bearing against said arm.

The device defined in claim 1 wherein a receiving chamber is formed on said framework in which a yieldable support is mounted against which said handle bears, said handle having an elongated longitudinal port formed therein, and anchoring means extending through said port and through aligned ports in said framework.
