Description
(NoModeL) T. M. ANTISELL. PIANO WREST PLANK.
No. 373,262. Patented Nov. 15, 1887.
UNITED STATES.
PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS M. ANTISELL, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
PIANO WREST-PLANK.
, SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 373,262, dated November 15, 1887.
' Application filed May 14, 1887. Serial No. 238,277. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS M. ANTIsELL, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement 'in Pianos; and-I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to improvements in pianos; and it consists of a novel detachable sectional wrest-p1ank.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a part of the wrest-plank, showing the arrangement of the pins. Fig. 2 is a section taken through the wrest-plank in the line of the pins, showing also the manner of attaching it to the main frame.
Instead of making the wrestplank as a part of the main frame, I form it in sections A, which are beveled all around, so that the upper surface is of smaller dimensions than the lower one.
The'main frame of the piano, which ismadeof iron, has openings 0 cast in it corresponding in form with the sections A, so that the sections may be introduced from below, and when they are in place their upper surfaces will be nearly or quite flush with the top surface of the main portion, which has the usual agraffe.
In order to secure the sections A in place, each one has lugs or projections cast upon one side and projecting below the main plate. Corresponding holes are made through the plate and the lugs to receive bolts, by which they are firmly secured together. The opposite edges may be secured in the same manner, if desired, or, as shown in the present case, by ribs or flanges D, cast upon the main plate, between which the edges of the sections A are fitted, so that one side is held by the flanges and the other by the bolts. This enables me to remove and replace the wrestplank sections independently of each other and also of the main frame.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a piano, a main frame having openings or depressions formed therein, in combination with a beveled wrest-plank or sections secured in said openings, substantially as described.
2. As an improvement in pianos, a wrestplank beveled on all sides and adapted to be secured in dovetailed openings in the main frame, substantially as described.
3. In a piano, amain iron frame with dovetailed openings through one end, in combination with correspondingly-shaped cast metallic plates fitted thereto, and having steel or iron pins projecting above the surface to receive split-socket tuning-pins and locking and bolt lugs, whereby they are removably secured in place, substantially as herein described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand. T. M. ANTISELL.
