- Two shorter arms approximately in line with one another carry respectively entrance and exit pallet stones engageable with the teeth of an escape wheel to control the intermittent rotary movement of the escape wheel and thereby the movement of the watch.
- a third, longer arm extends approximately perpendicular to the other two and is provided at its free end with a fork which is engageable by the ruby pin on the balance wheel to oscillate the pallet lever and thereby intermittently release the escape wheel for step-by-step movement.

- banking pins which project form one of the plates by which the pallet lever is pivotally supported and are engageable respectively with opposite edges of the longer arm of the pallet lever near the fork to limit its oscillatory movement.
- banking pins In order to mount the banking pin, it is necessary to drill two holes in exactly the right locations in the plate to receive the pins. This is a precision operation which increases the cost of manufacture of the watch. If the holes are not accurately positioned, the watch does not run accurately.
- the insertion and securing of the banking pins in the holes involves additional operations in the manufacture of the watch.
- the operational region of the pallet lever is determined by a projection on the pallet lever that is integral with the lever itself and is engageable with the edge ofa notch or other opening provided in one of the plates pivotally supporting the pallet lever.
- the projection is conveniently formed as a tab which is partially severed and bent up from the material of the lever. This can conveniently be done in the same operation as stamping the lever from strip or sheet stock.

- the two shorter arms carry respectively an entrance pallet stone 5a and an exit pallet stone 5b engageable with the teeth of an escape wheel (not shown) to control the intermittent release of the escape wheel in usual manner.
- a fork 3e which is engageable in usual manner by the ruby pin ofa balance wheel (not shown) to oscillate the pallet lever.
- an integral projection 3b provided on the longer arm of the pallet lever 3 near the fork 3e is engageable with the opposite edges 2a and 2b ofa notch or recess 2c provided in one of the support plates 2 to determine the operational region of the pallet lever.
- the pallet lever is formed of sheet stock and the projection 3b is formed as an integral tab which is defined by a U-shaped cut and bent up out of the plane of the lever at an angle so that the tip of the tab extends up into the plane of the support plate 2.
- the projection 3b is located centrally of the width of the lever arm 3a and is hence symmetrical with respect to the section line 2-2 which defines the longitudinal axis of the arm 3a.
- the tab comprising the projection 3b is conveniently formed in the same operation as the stamping of the pallet lever 3 from strip or sheet stock. Hence the projection 3a does not increase the weight or moment of inertia of the pallet lever and, moreover, does not increase the operations required for its manufacture and assembly.
- the plate 2 may be a front or back plate or a bridge pivotally supporting one end of the shaft 4 of the pallet lever 3.
- it can be made of thin stock having only such thickness and strength as are required for the pivotal support of the pallet lever and such other watch parts, for example the balance wheel and escape wheel, as are disposed between tlie plates 1 and 2.
- the novel construction in accordance with the present invention assures precise definition of the operational region of the pallet lever and thereby contributes to the accuracy of the watch. Moreover, it eliminates the cost of making and assembling banking pins to limit the swing of the pallet lever, while at the sanie time providing more accurate control of the oscillation of the pallet lever. Thus the quality and precision of the timepiece are improved while reducing its cost of manufacture.
