UNITED lSTATESV VPATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES A. IOMERENING, OF WAUZEKA, WISCONSIN.
SNAP-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 372,817, dated November 8*, 1887.
Y Application filed April 18, 1887. Serial No. 235,218. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. POMEREN- ING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wauzeka, in the county of Crawford, State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Snap-Hooks, of which the following is a specification, reference being This invention has relation to snap-hooks, and among the: objects in view is the provision of a combined snap-hook and buckle that maybe easily and conveniently made in a single casting or piece that is cheap, strong, and durable.
Other objects and advantages of the in vention will appear in the following description,
and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the'claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a cen tral longitudinal section of a combined snaphook and buckle constructed in accordance with myinvention, and Fig. 2 is aperspective of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like p'arts in both figures of the drawings.
In carrying my invention into practice I propose to cast the device in a single piece, and it comprises the buckle portion A, interiorly recessed, as at A', and provided with the top opening A2. An opening or aperture, A5, is formed in the bottom portion of the buckle, which is provided with a transverse integral pintle or bar, A4, to receive a tongue, A5, adapted when raised to project into the opening A2 in the top ofl the buckle. At the forward end of the buckle portion A, and iutegral therewith, is formed the hook or arm B, which projects forwardly, upwardly, and rearwardly, like an ordinary snap-hook. At the front end of the buckle A, and at or about the juncture thereof with the hook B, is formed a recess, B2, into which is adapted to be pivotally secured a tongue or snap by means of a pintle, B5, passing through apertures formed in the sides and near the rear end of the tongue or snap and into apertures B4, formed in the walls of the recess B2.
The rear end and under surface of the snap B is recessed, as at B5, for the reception of a coiled spring, B5, bent around the pintle B5, and one end of which bears against the top portion of the hook B, and the opposite end of which bears against the under surface of the snap, forcing the same to a closed. position, as usual.
A strap, C, provided with the usual perforations for the reception of the buckle-tongue, is passed into the interior recess of the buckle A, and the strap bent upwardly to permit of the tongue being inserted in one of the apertures therein, this bending operation being permissible by means of the opening A5, formed in the topof the buckle. This having been done, the end of the strap, by means of the hook at its forward end, may be coupled with or hooked to any object.
By reason ofthe tongue A5 projecting against the rear wall of the opening A5, the former will' resist strain brought upon the strap, and
thus retain itin connection with the buckle.
If desired, other forms or modes of fastening the strap and buckle together may be provided than the tongue A5.
An aperture, Bl, for escape of water, is provided in the hook B under the spring B5.
Having described my invention and its advantages, what I claim is l. The herein described casting, comprising the buckle portion A, recessed, as at A B2, perforated, as at A5, having the transverse bar A4, and the forwardly-projecting hook portion B, substantially as specified.
2. rIhe buckle A, having the opening A2, and reces'sed and perforated, as at A', A5, B2, and B4, and having the transverse bar A4 and the hook B perforated, as at B5, in combination with the tongue B, pintle B5, spring B5, and strap D, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I aftix my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES A. POMERENING. yWitnesses:
ALFRED E. SELBY, C. RICE.
