Schultz [57] ABSTRACT A pair of extensions attachable to the conventional brackets that are used to support a window shade along the top of a window, the extensions'hanging downward and the lower ends being adaptable to support the window shades at a lower elevation, so that the upper portion of the window area is not blocked by the shade, thus allowing air to circulate from the out-of-doors and into the room when the upper window sash is lowered.
1 Claim, 3 Drawing Figures WINDOW SHADE BRACKET EXTENSION This invention relates generally to window shades. More specifically it relates to window shade accessories.
'It is generally well known that at times it is desired to have fresh air from out-of-doors to circulate into a room, and a best circulation is obtained by opening the top of a window to allow hot air from a room outward, while the lower part of the window is open to admit cool air inwardflf such circulation is desired when the window shade is lowered even partly, the upper opening will cause the shade to flap and rattle in the breeze while at the same time blocking an effective movement of the air through the window. This situation is of course objectionable and therefore in want of improvement.
Accordingly, it is a principle object of the present invention to provide a means whereby the window shade is not in the way to obstruct the passage of air through 'the extensions can be quickly and easily attached thereto or removed when not desired.
Other objects are to provide a pair of window shade bracket extensions, which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to useand efficient in operation.
' These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a pattern view of sheet metal from which one of the bracket extensions are formed.
FIG. 2 is a similar view thereof after being fully formed.
FIG. 3 is a side edge view thereof shown in operative use supporting a window shade at a lower elevation so to not block ventilation of air through the upper portion of a window.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral 10 represents a window shade bracket extension according to the present invention wherein there is a formed member 11 that is bent up from a flat sheet metal pattern 12, by bending over the opposite side edges 13 along a bend line 14. At the upper end thereof, a separate hook member 15 is secured by spot welds 16, the member 15 being bent up from a flat pattern 17 so to have a sidewardly extending hook 18 that is able to be hooked into an opening 19 of a conventional bracket 20 secured on the upperopposite side edges of a window frame, the bracket 20 being usually used to support a window shade 21.
Along the intermediate and lower part of the extension member 11 there are a pair of single openings 22 either one of which is adaptable to receive a projecting spindle 23 of the window shade 21. The openings 22 are of slot shape so to receive either the flat spindle at one end of the shade or the cylindrical round spindle at the other end thereof. The lower end of member 11 comprises a transverse strip 24 integral with member 11, the opposite ends of which may be folded around the edges of the window frame stick 25. Slots 26 in strip 24 allow easy bending locations. The member 11 is slightly bent as shown at 27 so to bring the strip to fit the stick 25, while the opening 22 is away from the stick 25 so to receive the spindle.
In use, as shown, the shade can be at either elevation so to clear the top area of the window for ventilation.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it is to be understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention.
I claim:
1. In a window shade extension bracket assembly, the combination of a pair of extending members, each one of which is removably attachable to a window shade bracket attached to a window frame, each bracket having a pair of flanges extending from opposite sides of a channel section offset from said flanges toward said member, including an opening in said channel section adapted to support the upper end of said member, wherein each member comprises an elongated sheet metal element having a hook at its upper end mounted removably in said opening whereby the member depends from and is supported by the bracket, including slots in the lower portions of said member to receive and support the spindle that projects from the end of a window shade roller further including a laterally 'extending strip with vertical slots at the lower end of said member, whereby said strip is adapted to be easily bent around an edge of said window frame to provide a rigid lower support.
