3 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures PATENTEUHARZYIUYS INVENTOR, A RK C. ROGERS RAM OPERATED DIAMOND CORE DRILL PRESS SUMMARY member so as to prevent wobbling of the bit when it isrotated.
Another object of this invention is to provide a drilling press of the type described which will have rack means which will aid in guiding the ram portion.
A further object of this invention is to provide an apparatus of the type described which will have a water swivel which will serve to cool the diamonds and wash away the cut concrete and thebase member of the apparatus will include bolt fastening means for securing the apparatus to the concrete anchor.
A still further object of this invention is to provide an apparatus for drilling which might inherent properties, will increase the endurance of the diamond bit being used as well as expediting a drill operation.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a ram operated diamond core drill press which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon I a study of the following specification and accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a side view of the present invention; and FIG. 2 is an enlarged view taken along the line 2- 2 of FIG. 1. I
DETAILED DESCRIPTION According to this invention, a ram operated diamond core drill press is shown to include a base member 11 from which is sufficiently secured and extending up- A wards a vertical rack 12 having a plurality of teeth 13 which provides guide means and mechanical elevation means for drilling portion of the apparatus. A bar 14 is fixedly secured in a horizontal position to the upper extremity of rack 12 and has vertically fixed thereto a ram cylinder 15 which may be air or hydraulically operated. Fixedly secured to base 11 of apparatus 10 is a support frame 16 of L-shaped cross sectional configuration, the opposite end being fixedly secured to the upper extremity of rack 12 and end bar 14.
A cross bar 17 provides further rigidity for frame 16 by being secured fixedly between support frame 16 at one end and fixedly secured at is other'end in a suitable manner to rack 12. An air or hydraulic motor-18 includes lines 18 for feeding fluid or air thereto. Thus this motor is fluid-actuated Attached to apparatus 10 is a free position control valve 19 having forward, neutral and reverse positions (not shown). Also carriedby apparatus 10 is a regulator 19' for the purpose of applying a desired pressure to the ram cylinder 15 and its associated components. A water swivel 20' mounted on motor 18 provides a means of cooling its attached diamond bit 20" when apparatus 10is in operation.
The lower extremity of bit 20" is guided within guide member 21 on the forward end of base 11. The bit 20" is further guided by guide member 22 carried slidably upon rack 12 and handles 23 serve to raise or lower the bit 20" manually and further aids drilling when prime hydraulic or air pressure is supplied to ram cylinder 15. Base member 11 includes a plurality of spaced apart .bolt fasteners 24 for securing apparatus 10 to-a concrete anchor so that the apparatus 10 will be' fastened rigidly in order to effectively drill an opening.
In use, pressure is applied to the bit 20" by means of the hydraulic or air operated ram cylinder 15 which causes the bit 20 to cut more effectively than if it were manually operated when the pressure is controlled by means of regulator 19'. During drilling operations, the ram cylinder 15 applies downward pressure to the bit 20'. However, more or less downward pressure may be regulated by turning the handles 23, depending upon the degree of hardness of the concrete being drilled.
The guide member 21 serves to effectively maintain the alignment of bit 20" by acting as barriers thereon prior to imparting vertical stability against wobbling when apparatus 10 is used for drilling operations. As shown in FIG. 1, shaft 25 on handles 23 has a pinion 26 meshing with teeth 13 on rack 12, whereby motor 18 may be raised or lowered. This shaft is supported in a bracket connected to the motor.
