IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKETS FOR. CHAIN-PUMPS.
Specification forming part o. Letters Patent No. 37,2 1S, dated December 23, 1862.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JOHN D. CLARK, of Leicester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Bucket for ChainPumps and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings and gures and letters of reference marked thereon.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction.
My invention consists in providing a bucket for chain-pumps with its collar or piston having a groove, as shown in Figure 3, letter A, to secure an elastic ring of such size as may be necessary io t the tube, thus providing a packing which prevents the Water from falling back when the pump is in operation.
Fig. 1, D, gives a view of the bucket with the packing-ring as it will be used in the chain. Fig. 2, C, represents a sectional view of the bucket and packing When in the chain. Fig. 3, A, represents the bucket with the groove in it Without the packing-ring. Fig. 4, B, represents the elastic packing-ring.
What I claim as my invent-ion, and for which I desire to secure Letters Patent, is-
A grooved bucket, in combination with an elastic packing-ring, as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
