The doll-leg-engaging member may be connected to either side of the record so that both sides may be played with the doll in position thereon.
7 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures FIGURE TOY STAND AND PHONOGRAPH RECORD COMBINATION BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The background of the invention will be set forth in two parts.
1. Field of the Invention The present invention pertains generally to the field of figure toy stands and more particularly to such a stand in which the base is a phonograph record.
2. Description of the Prior Art Many different types of doll stands are known. However, these doll stands do not usually lend themselves to environmental play with the doll and stand.
OBJECTS AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In view of the foregoing factors and conditions characteristic of prior art doll stands, it is a primary object of the present invention to provide a new and useful doll stand not subject to the disadvantages enumerated above and including means whereby the doll stand may also serve as a recorded-message carrier means.
Another object of this present invention is to provide a figure-toy supporting apparatus in combination with a recorded-message carrier means.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a new and useful apparatus for connecting a figure toy to a rotatable disc-type phonograph record.
According to the present invention, a doll stand includes a base member comprising a disc-type phonograph record having a center hole for a turntable spindle. A plurality of apertures are provided around this hole for receiving some lugs provided on an elongated bracket having a C-shaped cross section and adapted to receive the leg of a doll, or other suitable figure toy, for connecting the doll to the base.
The doll stand may then be placed on the turntable of a phonograph and the doll will be rotated while the phonograph plays the recorded message provided on the base member.
The features of the present invention which are believed to be novel are set forth with particularity in the appended claims. The present invention, both as to its organization and manner of use, together with further objects and advantages thereof, may best be understood by reference to the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters refer to like elements in the several views.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIG. I is a perspective view of a doll stand constituting a presently preferred embodiment of the invention;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged, partial cross-sectional view taken along line 2--2 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is an enlarged, partial cross-sectional view taken along line 33 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 4 is an exploded perspective view of the doll stand of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 5 is a partial, vertical cross-sectional view showing a doll stand of FIG. 1 in combination with a phonograph mechanism.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT:
Referring again to the drawings and more particularly to FIGS. 1-4, a figure-toy stand constituting a presently preferred embodiment of the invention, generally designated 10, includes a base 12 and a bracket means 14.
Base 12 comprises a recorded-message carrier means having sound tracks 16 provided on both sides thereof. Base 12 is also provided with an unrecorded central portion 18 which, in turn, is provided with a central, spindle-receiving aperture 19 (FIG. 4) and a plurality of apertures 20, 22 and 24.
Bracket means 14 includes an elongated clamp member 26 which is substantially C-shaped in crosssection so that an elongated opening 28 is formed therein.
Bracket means 14 also includes a plurality of clips 30, 32 and 34 adapted to be engaged in rectangular apertures 20, 22 and 24,.respectively, for connectin clamp 26 to base 12.
A figure toy 36 (FIG. 1) may then be supported by stand 10 by engaging a limb 38 of figure toy 36 in clamp 26. This may be accomplished by inserting limb 38 through opening 28 where limb 38 is maintained in position above spindle-receiving aperture 19 by a plurality of elongated ribs 40 formed integrally with clamp 26 and clips 30, 32 and 34 during a suitable molding operation.
Bracket means 14 is preferably molded from a suitable resilient plastic material, such as an acrylic resin, so that clamp 26 may be squeezed to reduce its diameter while inserting clips 30, 32 and 34 in apertures 20, 22 and 24, respectively. Clamp 26 will resume its original shape, when released, expanding the clips into firm engagement with their associated apertures. A peripheral rim 13 provides clearance between either side of base 12 and turntable 42 to accommodate clips 30, 32 and 34 regardless of which side of the recorded-message carrier means is uppermost on turntable 42. Thus, clamp 26 may be connected to either side of base 12.
Referring now to FIG. 5, stand 10 may be positioned on a phonograph turntable 42 by engaging its spindlereceiving aperture 19 on a turntable spindle 44 affixed to turntable 42 by a suitable nut 45.
Sounds recorded in sound tracks 16 may be reproduced by a phonograph needle 46, carried by a tone arm 48, when turntable 42 is rotated by any suitable means, such as a friction roller 50 carried by the output shaft 52 of an electric motor 54.
It will be seen that the play value of figure toy 36 and stand 10 is enhanced by causing figure toy 36 to rotate with stand 10 during the playing of the song or message recorded in sound tracks 16.
While the particular doll stand herein shown and described in detail is fully capable of attaining the objects and providing the advantages hereinbefore stated, it is to be understood that it is merely illustrative of the presently preferred embodiment of the invention and that no limitations are intended to the details of construction or design herein shown other than as defined in the appended claims, which form a part of this disclosure.
