PANEL AND EXTRUSION COMBINATION STATEMENT OF INVENTION This invention relates to panels and, more particularly, to extrusions in combination with panels for supporting the panels in a room or the like to form partitions.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the invention to provide an improved shape of extrusion.
Another object is to provide an improved combination extrusion and panel combination using relatively thin panels.
Another object is to provide a combination extrusion panel and support for forming a partition.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is an isometric view of the improved panel and extrusion installed in a rest room partition.
FIG. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on line 33 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 4 is an enlarged view of one corner of the panel shown in FIG. 9.
FIG. 5 is an enlarged partial view of the extrusion and panel.
FIG. 6 is a view similar to FIG. 5 of another embodiment of the extrusion and panel combination showing a thicker panel in use.
FIG. 7 is a view of a corner insert.
FIG. 8 is another view of the corner insert.
FIG. 9 is an isometric view of the panel and extrusion similar to FIG. 1.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Now with more particular reference to the drawings, the partition is shown with the posts 12 that are supported to the ceiling by means of a rail 25. The rail 25 is shown, for example, attached to the upper ends of the posts. Other suspension for the partitions could be used.
The sheet panels 15 are supported to the posts 12 and to the wall 16 by means of brackets 11. The doors are made of honey-combed-material 27 which is sandwiched between the outer skin 28 and the upper edges of the skin are bent back on themselves at 29 to engage the trim'strip 30. The brackets 11 are fixed to the wall by screws 31 and are fixed to the posts by screws 21 which extend through the web of the brackets 11. The door 14 is hinged to the post 12 by hinge 24 and the door 22 is hinged to a similar post and it swings into enga'gement with a stop 23. The hinge 24 and stop 23 are held to the post 12 by means of screws 31. The extrusions 10 are supported to the posts 12 and to the wall 16 by the U-shaped brackets 11.
The extrusions 10 fit in between the legs of the brackets and are held to brackets by means of screws 13. The extrusions have legs which are parallel to each other and terminate in the ends 19 which converge toward each other and have the thickened portions which have parallel surfaces that engage the thick panels in the embodiment shown in FIG. 6. The legs 19 are connected together by means of the web 17 and the web 17 has a notch 34 in it which receives the end of the sheet panel 15 and holds it in position.
A U-shaped spacer 37 is inserted in the space between the ends 20 and this makes it possible to use the thin panels 115 in the same extrusion and the edge of the U-shaped space is received in the notch 34.
The extrusion makes it possible to use a relatively thin panel member as shown.
A corner arrangement for the panels is shown in FIG. 4. The joint at the corner is formed whereby an inclined surface 155 is engaged by an inclined surface 156. Screws 151 are inserted through the end of one bead 140 and threadably received in the other member at surface 155, as shown. Thus, the extrusions 140 are held together by the screws 151.
The corner member 40 shown in FIGS. 7 and 8 is made of two pieces. The piece 40 has slot 51 formed in it which is defined by shoulders 52 and 53 to receive a relatively wide panel. The shoulders 54 and 55 are connected to the molded part by a breakaway portion 56 and 57 so that these parts can be broken off and the large size groove 59 will remain. The groove 59 is for use with thin paneled sections.
The surfaces 66 and 67 will rest against the ends of the vertical extrusions 10 and the horizontal extrusions 10 when the panels are assembled as shown in FIG. 1. The spaced members 68 and 69 will be received in the spaces 70 and 71 of the extrusions shown in FIG. 5 for example. It will, therefore, be seen that the corner 1 members provide a neat, efficient finish for the corners of the panels.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 9, a partition having posts 112 that rest on the floor on the feet is shown. The sheet panels 115 are bounded by the extrusions 140. The extrusions are beveled at surfaces 150' and 155 and screws 151 hold the extrusions together. The doors 114 are hinged to the posts as shown. The extrusions have ends mitered at at 45 to each other and the ends are held together by screws 151 received in threaded holes as shown and the heads are received in countersunk holes in the other extrusions shown.
The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claims.
The embodiments of the invention which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. In combination, an extrusion and a spacer,
