Abstract

A stove having a carrier member for holding a charge to be placed into the stove. The carrier member is connected to guide members via a carrier frame and enables the carrier member to be positively positioned in front of the stove. 9 Cla1ms, 6 Drawing Figures HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE SUCH ASA COOKING STOVE OR THE LIKE HAVING BALLAST MEANS My invention relates to a household appliance, in particular, a stove, or the like, which is equipped with a carrier for holding the charge to be treated by the stove. The carrier is borne by carriage means, or guiding members so as to be movable in an outward direction away from the rear side of the housing; this movement can be in a direction perpendicular to the rear side of the housing or the carrier can be movable through an are away from the rear side of the housing.
In ever increasing numbers, carriers for carrying the food to be cooked are being constructed in stoves having a baking and broiling facility so as to be movable out of and into the cooking chamber via telescopic or sliding guiding members.
In all instances, there arises a turning moment having its moment center at the front edge of the appliance and produced by the loaded carrier in the out position. This is especially true when the charge or loading is at the full capacity of the washing chamber of the dishwasher or the baking and broiling oven, as the case may be, wherewith a considerable effect is realized relative to the standing stability of the appliance if no special measures for anchoring or securing the appliance are taken.
It is an object of the invention to provide an improved stove with a carrier device for charging into the stove and having guide means extendable in front of said stove to cooperate with the carrier device.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide an improved stove of the aforementioned type insuring stability of the stove when the carrier is fully extended and so doing without the need of additional supports.
It is an object of my invention to provide a household appliance of the above-mentioned type which exhibits a standing stability sufficient for all operation loadings. Subsidiary to this object it is an object of my invention to provide such a household stove which requires that no special measures be taken to anchor the appliance at the location where it is to be used and operated.
According to a feature of the invention, I provide a ballast weight at the region of the rear side of the stove which develops a reaction moment to counteract the effect of the turning moment produced by the loaded carrier in its open position. By positioning the ballast in this manner, there is obtained a long moment arm extending to the front edge of the stove so that the ballast weight can be relatively small.
In the preferred embodiment, the ballast weight is dimensioned as a flat body and is secured straight and parallel to the rear side of the appliance; it has been shown that this configuration gives the best working effect. In this way the entire ballast weight works together with the longest possible lever arm within the appliance itself. In this embodiment, it is advantageous to construct the ballast weight as part of the rear wall of the stove, so that a portion of the actual rear wall of the stove can be constituted by this ballast weight. Finally, it is efficacious to secure the ballast weight to the stove so that it is removable therefrom, whereby the transport or the like of the apparatus is facilitated.
To this end and in accordance with the invention, a stove of the afore-indicated type is characterized by the fact that a ballast weight is seated between the vertical supports of a carrier frame arranged at the rear of the stove and constructed in form of a flat body, i.e. square in shape.
Some added advantages of the invention over the prior art are that the structure in the area of the stove rear wall makes it possible to manage with a relatively small ballast weight. It is especially advantageous to arrange the ballast weight in such a manner, that its largest area extends in parallel to the rear of the stovejthis makes it possible for the entire ballast weight to counter the largest possible lever arm, within the stove. Furthermore, the ballast weight can also substitute for a portion of the rear wall of the stove. In all such cases, the additional advantage lies in the fact that the ballast weight will not occupy an otherwise useful area of the stove.
Previously known stabilizers such as those employed in connection with dishwashing machines, are designed to absorb a tipping or tilting moment that acts upon the open door; however these devices are expensive to construct and necessitate a variably designed support leg that automatically extends in front of the appliance when the drop door is opened.
The invention will now be described with reference to the drawings, wherein:
FIG. 1 is an elevation view of a stove equipped with a ballast weight according to one embodiment of the invention;
FIGS. 2 to 5 illustrate advantageous arrangements for mounting the rectangular-like solid ballast weight on the stove; and
FIG. 6 illustrates a stove equipped with a ballast weight as required by the invention wherein an adjusting means is provided for adjusting the height of the ballast weight.
Referring to FIG. 1, the stove comprises essentially a front side frame and a rear side frame designated by reference numerals 1 and 2, respectively. A housing 3 and carrier 4 for carrying the food to be cooked 5 are also provided. When the carrier is in its open position, the weight of the carrier 4 and the food 5 acts to produce a turning moment about the front edge 6 of the appliance; this bending moment being directed outwardly toward the front of the appliance. Ballast weights 7 and 8 are arranged at the region of the rear side frame and act to develop a reaction moment to compensate for the aforementioned turning moment. The ballast weights 7 and 8 can be dimensioned as flat bodies or more specifically as rectangularly shaped bodies. The ballast weight 7 constitutes a portion of the rear wall of the apparatus. This construction affords a relatively easy accessibility to the ballast weight 7. In addition, a savings in material is realized.
The ballast weight 7 can be secured in a known manner, for example by means of screws on the frame 2. According to FIG. 2, the ballast weight 8 is configured as a longitudinally extending body having the form of a solid quadrilateral which has openings fitting the form of the vertical struts 9 of the frame 2 and is secured to these struts. To increase the diagonal rigidity of the appliance, it is efficacious to place the ballast weight 8 between the struts 9 with its lateral front faces 11 disposed as indicated in FIG. 2.
Another possibility for securing the ballast weight 8 is shown in FIG. 3. The ballast weight 8 is held laterally by U'shaped rails 12, the latter being removably secured to the struts 9 and/or the ballast weight 8. it is advantageous to arrange the ballast weight 8 so that it is seated on a cross member 13 which joins the struts 9 of the frame 2. in this way, strain relief for the frame 2 is obtained.
According to a further feature of the invention, as illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5, a ballast weight 14 provided with a channel-like member 17 is placed between the struts 9. The ballast weight 14 is secured to the channel-like member 17 via tubular rivets 16. The channellike member 17 is provided with extensions 19 wherewith the member 17 is secured to the struts 9 of the frame 2 via screws l8.'lt is also possible to complement the member 17 with an additional plate portion to form a closed container for the ballast weight, the latter configuration not being illustrated. Loose or liquid ballast weight such as sand or water could be poured into such a container. This configuration affords the ad vantage that the transport costs of the ballast weight from the factory to the location of use of the appliance is minimized.
Especially heavy ballast weights are borne at the foot of the frame by a roller 21. The stove is adjustable in height by means of an eccentric 22 so that after the appliance is positioned in place and the eccentric 22 is actuated, the roller 21 is raised until the pedestal portion 23 rests on the floor permitting the appliance to stand firm. The eccentric 22 can be adjusted via a shaft (not illustrated) from the front side of the appliance. in addition, in lieu of an eccentric 22, it is possible to supply foot screws which are arranged to be screwable outwardly in the downward direction and which, during the assembly of the appliance, lift the rollers from the floor.
With the invention, household appliances of high stability are obtained. Also, the configuration of the ballast weights according to the invention provides the possibility for increasing the mechanical strength of the appliance.

6. A stove as claimed in claim 3, including structural means adapted to accommodate the ballast means affixed between said support means.
7. A stove as claimed in claim 1, wherein said ballast means is seated upon a structural cross-traverse member adapted to connect with said support means.
8. A stove as claimed in claim 1, wherein said ballast means is an integral part of said rear side.
9. A stove as claimed in claim 1, wherein said ballast means is adapted to act as a heat storer.

Claims (9)

1. A stove including a carrier member, a carrier member frame and guide members connected to said frame adapted to co-act with said carrier member to enable front loading of said stove, said carrier frame being provided with vertical support means at the rear side of said stove, adapted to seat and positively receive flat ballast means sufficient to impart stove stability.

7. A stove as claimed in claim 1, wherein said ballast means is seated upon a structural cross-traverse member adapted to connect with said support means.
8. A stove as claimed in claim 1, wherein said ballast means is an integral part of said rear side.
