However, the structure of this invention is unique in its ease of use and handling.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is general a broad object of the present invention to provide an improved bedpan structure which is simple and inexpensive to construct and which can be readily removed and discarded.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing the bedpan in the course of assembly.
FIG. 2 is a perspective view illustrating several steps in the assembly of the bedpan structure of this invention.
FIG. 3 is a bottom perspective view of the first tray and the absorbent unit.
FIG. 4 is a section taken along the line 4-4 in FIG. 1 illustrating the bedpan structure in cross section.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The preferred embodiment includes a first inner tray 7 and a second outer tray 6. The inner tray is enclosed within a wrapper folded upon itself to form a sleeve structure, generally indicated at 8. The sleeve is assembled from a sheet of waterproof material, the side edges 9 and 11 of the sheet 8 being folded over one another from the full line position in FIG. 3 into the dotted line position shown in FIG. 3. The overlapped edges 9 and 11 are held together with a strip of tape 12 thus forming the sleeve. The upper face of the sheet 8 includes a trapezoidally shaped opening 14. The next step in the assembly of the device is to insert a flat layer of absorbent material 16 into tray 7. The resulting assembly is then slipped within the sleeve formed by the overlapping of side edges 9 and 11. When this is achieved the opposite end flaps 17 and 18 are folded back around the underside of tray 7 and are secured in place by tape strips 19; this step is illustrated in FIG. 3. Folding the ends of the sleeve down and around the edges of tray 7 and securing these in place ensures the no-spill, no-drip, no-leak features. The assembled structure is then placed in the outer tray 6.
From the foregoing, I believe it will be apparent that I have provided a novel, simple and improved bedpan which can be manufactured inexpensively and which is quite reliable in use. Since both trays are waterproof, there is no danger of soiling the bed. Further, the bedpan described requires a minimum of change of posture on the part of the user.
I CLAIM:
1. A disposable bedpan comprising:
a. a first waterproof tray,
b. a layer of absorbent material filling the first tray,
c. a waterproof wrapper enclosing the first tray and secured upon itself as to be leakproof tape means employed to hold the wrapper in its enclosed state, the wrapper having an exposed upper face having an opening therein, and a second waterproof tray in which the wrapper enclosed first tray is mounted.
bedpan as in claim 1 wherein the wrapper lS formed of a flat sheet of material folded upon itself to form a sleeve to receive the first tray snugly with the opposite ends of the sleeve secured to the sleeve on the underside of the first tray to provide a leakproof enclosure for the first tray.
Claims (2)
1. A disposable bedpan comprising: A. A FIRST WATERPROOF TRAY, B. A LAYER OF ABSORBENT MATERIAL FILLING THE FIRST TRAY, C. A WATERPROOF WRAPPER ENCLOSING THE FIRST TRAY AND SECURED UPON ITSELF AS TO BE LEAKPROOF TAPE MEANS EMPLOYED TO HOLD THE WRAPPER IN ITS ENCLOSED STATE, D. THE WRAPPER HAVING AN EXPOSED UPPER FACE HAVING AN OPENING THEREIN, E. AND A SECOND WATERPROOF TRAY IN WHICH THE WRAPPER ENCLOSED FIRST TRAY IS MOUNTED.
