The loom is made up of a round platelike disk body having an opening in its center and a single row of pins projecting axially from the first side of the disk adjacent the hole. A similar row of pins projects from the second side. The second side also has a. second row of pins projecting from it adjacent the outer periphery. When the yarn is formed on both sides of the loom, the center can be sewed together to hold the loops of threads firmly in position. The flower can then be set into an afghan or blanket by crocheting the periphery in place on a cloth or it can be crocheted to other similar flowers.
6 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures I n n M19 s U M ii 1 Jan. 9, 1973 LOOM OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the invention to provide an improved loom.
Another object of the invention is to provide a loom whereby symmetrical flowers can be woven.
Another object of the invention is to provide a loom for weaving flowers for an afghan, blanket or the like.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, size, proportions, and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. I is a top view of the loom according tothe invention.
FIG. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on line 2-2 of FIG. 1. V I
FIG. 3 is a bottom view of the loom shown in FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is an enlarged partial view of another embodiment of the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Now with more particular reference to the drawings, the loom is shown generally M10. The loom has a plate or disk-like body having a bead 11 around its outer periphery projecting from both sides of the loom and having first pins 14 fixed to the first side 12 of the loom. The first pins 14 are disposed adjacent the hole 17. A second row ofpins 15 are disposed adjacent the hole on the side of the loom opposite the first side. An outer rowof pins 16 concentric to the second row 15 are disposed adjacent the outer periphery of the loom on the second side 13.
The outer ends of the pins can have enlarged bosses on them indicated at 122 in FIG. 4.
To use the loom a first color of yarn will be looped in the form of figure 8s over diametrically opposite pins in the third row of pins 16. In order to make a flower having substantial body, several figure 8s can be formed between pair of diametrically opposite pins 16. The yarn may then be looped in the form of figure 8s over the second row of pins 15 by looping it over diametrically opposite pins in turn until each pair of diametrically opposite pins has one or more figure 8's of yarn supported on it. The yarn may then be passed through the opening 17 and looped around the diametrically opposite pins 16 until each pair of pins 16 has at least one or more figure 8's of yarn on it. The yarn may then be sewed through the center of the flower to hold the yarn in place so that the flower will remain intact when the ends of the loops are removed from the pins. The flower may then be set into an afghan adjacent similar flowers or in a hole in a blanket or the like and the loops forming the outer petals that were supported on the second row of pins 16 may be crocheted into the afghan. The slot 20 may be used to hold the starting end of the yarn while the flowers are bein formed.
Contras mg colors of yarn may be use for the loops in its preferred practical forms but the structure shown 1 is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claims.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive propertyor privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. A loom comprising a disklike body having a first side and a second side, I
a hole through the center of said body,
a first row of pins on said first side of said loom ad'- jacent said center hole,
asecond row of pins projecting generally perpendicular from the said second side of said body adjacent said hole,
- a third'row of pins projecting generally perpendicular from the said second side and spaced outwardly from the said second row of pins and disposed generally concentrically thereto.
2. The loom recited in claim 1 wherein a bead is formed and extends entirely around the loomadjacent the outer periphery of the said disk.
3. The loom recited in claim 2 wherein said bead is formed at the said outer periphery of said disks, said bead extends circumferentially on both sides of said disk.
4. The loom recited in claim 2 wherein said pins are generally oval shaped in cross section.
5. The loom recited in claim 4 wherein said pins have an enlarged outer end whereby yarn is prevented from slipping off said pinsduring the weaving operation.
6. The loom recited in claim 5 wherein a notch is formed in the outer periphery of said disk for holding the starting end of yarn.
