Abstract

A door check and door stop combination. The door check is made up of a pneumatic cylinder and piston which control the rate at which the door closes to prevent the door from slamming. A stop is attached to the distal end of the piston rod and lies along the side of the cylinder. The stop is made of a sheet material and has a hole through it which receives the cylinder. The stop has a handle which may be engaged by the user''s hand to move the stop from position in engagement with the cylinder. Gravity will cause the stop to fall into engagement with the end of the cylinder.

WOOD 1 DOOR CHEGK AND DOOR STOP COMBINATION OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the invention to provide an im proved door stop and cylinder combination.
Another object of the invention is to provide a door stop and cylinder combination which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and simple and effi'cient to use and to install. v
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved door stop and door check combination.
'With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, size, proportions, and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the ad vantages of the invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIG. 1 is a side view of the door stop-check according to the invention installed on a door, showing the door closed.
FIG. 2 is a view of the door stop-check taken at 90 to the view shown in FIG. 1, showing the stop-check retracted.
FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1 showing the door open.
FIG. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 2 showing the stopcheck extended.
- DETAILED DESCRIPTION or THE DRAWINGS ported in it and the door stop 11, which is made of sheet metal, ispivoted to the bracket 19 by the pivot 12. Spaced holes 40 are provided in the door stop 11 for different size doors and different size cylinders. The
stop 11 is bent at 15 at approximately 45. An opening 13 is formed in the door stop and the opening 13 slidably receives the cylinder. The handle 14 is formed on the stop 11 so that the cylinder can be moved from the position shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 wherein the door can freely slide open and closed to the position shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 wherein the stop engages the end of the cylinder at the bent portion 15 of the stop.
When the door is closed, as shown in FIG. 1, the stop will be disposed with its distal end at an intermediate part of FIG. 1. When the door is opened, the part 15 will engage the end of the cylinder and hold the piston and cylinder extended.
The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the a nded claims.
Theembodiments of the invention In which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. A combination door check and stop comprising, a fluid controlled cylinder, a piston reciprocably mounted in saidcylinder, a piston rod attached to said piston and extending therefrom, a first pivot means for said piston rod for attaching said piston rod to a first part of a door, and means on said cylinder for attaching said cylinder to a second part of a door, a stop, said stop being swingably attached to said pivot, said stop having a hole therein slidably receiving said cylinder, said stop being adapted to be swung into engagement with the end of said cylinder adjacent said piston rod wherein said piston rod and said cylinder are held in extended position.
2. The combination recited in claim 1 wherein said stop is made of. sheet material and said opening is formed in a part of said sheet material bent generally at 45 to the main part of said door stop,
a handle is a portion of said door stop bent parallel to said cylinder and adapted to glide in engagement with said cylinder when said door is in said closed position.
