It is therefore an object of the invention to provide an assembly of the character referred to.

The key 12 is fabricated from non-magnetic material in cylindrical form and of a size to fit snuglybut slidably in the lock cylinder 11. It has formed in its surface from end to end, a spiral groove or key-way 15. It also carries adjacent its lead-in end a permanent magnet 16 that is embedded in its body.
When the key 12 is to be inserted into the lock cylinder 11, the key-way is placed in register with a stud, or pin 17, on the inside surface of the entrance end of the lock cylinder so that as the key is pushed into the lock cylinder it is rotated. The magnet 16 is so located circumferentially on a proper key'that when the key is thrust totally into the lock cylinder the magnet will be brought into register with the switch 13a so as to cause same to close and energize the circuit to the ignition coil 18. The remaining switches 13b and 13c are so located circumferentially that the magnet never registers with either of them during key insertion or withdrawal hence the alarm'system is not actuated. Should an improper key be inserted, one or the other of said switchesl3b or 130 will be closed by the-magnet and the alarm 14 activated or gister with 13a. v
- The structure has been described asapplicable to the ignition system of a motor vehicle, but it'should be understood. that the switch can be used in any electrical circuit, such as an alarm system for a door, or the ignition or starter system for other types of vehiclesor motors. i

Referring to the exemplary embodiment of the invention as shown in the accompanying drawings, the lock assembly includes a lock-cylinder 11 and a key 12.
The lock cylinder preferably is comprised of a hollow cylindrical body open at one end and having a plurality I manent magnet carried by said key, a spiral key-way slot in said key, and a pin on said lock cylinder engaged in said key-way and effective to cause the key to rotate during its insertion into the lock cylinder to carry the magnet into close association with a selected one ofthe switches for closing same when the key is fully posi tioned in said lock cylinder.
2. The switch recited in claim 1, in which the switches are mounted on the lock cylinder.
3. The switch recited in claim 1, in which the key comprises a solid cylindrical body.
4. The switch recited in claim 3, in which the magnet is embedded in the cylindrical body.

Claims (4)

1. An electric switch comprising a lock cylinder, a plurality of normally open magnetic switches spaced along and surrounding said lock cylinder, a key, a permanent magnet carried by said key, a spiral key-way slot in said key, and a pin on said lock cylinder engaged in said key-way and effective to cause the key to rotate during its insertion into the lock cylinder to carry the magnet into close association with a selected one of the switches for closing same when the key is fully positioned in said lock cylinder.
2. The switch recited in claim 1, in which the switches are mounted on the lock cylinder.
3. The switch recited in claim 1, in which the key comprises a solid cylindrical body.
4. The switch recited in claim 3, in which the magnet is embedded in the cylindrical body.
