UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES H. KENNEDY, OF EOLA, LOUISIANA.
BOOT-JAG K.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 370,197, dated September 20, 1887.
Application filed February 16, 1887.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES H. KENNEDY, of Eola, imthe parish of Avoyelles and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Boot-Jack, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is aside elevation of myimproved boot-jack. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on line 00 x in Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on line y y in Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts in all the views.
The object of my invention is to provide a boot-jack with a support for engaging the toe of the boot and assistingin the removal of the boot from the foot.
- My invention consists in the combination, with a boot-jack provided with a V-shaped notch for receiving the heel of the boot, of a loop formed of a metallic rod passing around the front of the boot-jack and clamped to the sides thereof, and metallic legs secured to the body and forming, in connection with the grooved edges of the boot-jack, guides for the looped rod.
The body A ofthe boot-jack is provided with the usual V-shaped notch,B,in the end thereof, for receiving the heel of the boot, and in opposite edges of the body A are formed grooves c,for receiving the rod 0, which is bent into a round loop, I), the ends of the rod being parallel with each other.
Serial No. 227,794. (No motlel.)
To the under surface of the body A of the boot-jack are secured legs D, which are pro vided with arms 0, extending underneath the body A,and secured thereto by screws (1. The upper portion of each leg D reaches to the top of the body A,and is provided with a semicircular notch, e, for embracing and guiding the ends of the rod 0. Between the legs D and the square end of the body A of the boot-jack are secured clipsf, provided with semicircular notches 9, adapted to receive the ends of the rod 0.
The legs D support the notched end of the boot-jack at a convenient height above the floor. The boot-jack is used by inserting the foot in the loop I), then bringing the heel into notch B, and bringing the toe of the boot into engagementwith the loop 1).
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with the boot-jack body A, having grooved edges, of the looped rodO, placed in the grooves of the edges of the body, the legs D, secured to the body and forming guides for the rod 0, and the clipsf, attached to the boot-jack body and adapted to hold the rods 0 in place, substantially as described.
JAMES H. KENNEDY.
