Abstract

A vertical pivotable gate has a base with a part-circular anchoring plate and a gate member movable into raised and lowered positions, the gate member having cross-members above and below the anchoring plate and all three being apertured to receive a longitudinally slidable latch bolt serving to hold the gate member in the raised position. For further support of the latch bolt, it may also pass through an aperture of a lock casing on the gate member.

Description

United States Patent Meniolle dHautrhuille 1451 Aug. 29, 1972 [54] PIVOTED GATE [72] Inventor: Jean Meniolle dHautrhuille, Boulevard Henri Dunant, St. Marcel, Marseille, France [22] Filed: April 20, 1970 [21] Appl.No.: 29,921
FOREIGN PATENTS OR APPLICATIONS 410,035 10/1966 Switzerland ..49/394 1,448,649 6/1966 France ..49/394 Primary Examiner-Dennis L. Taylor Attorney-William Anthony Drucker [57] ABSTRACT A vertical pivotable gate has a basewith a part-circular anchoring plate and a gate member movable into raised and lowered positions, the gate member having cross-members above and below the anchoring plate and all three being apertured to receive a longitudinally slidable latch bolt serving to hold the gate member in the raised position. Upper and lower preferably resilient end stops may be secured on the anchoring plate to be abutted by a cross-member. For further support of the latch bolt, it may also pass through an aperture of a lock casing on the gate member.
1 Claim, 4 Drawing Figures bers positioned one above the outer surface of the anchoring plate and the other below the inner surface parallel cross-members 9 and positioned respectively one over the top face of the plate 1 and the other under the bottom face of the plate 1.
The plate 1 has an aperture 11 at its apex, and the cross-members 9 and 10 each have an aperture 12, 13 which become aligned with the aperture 11 when the gate is in the vertical raised position of FIG. 1.
of the anchoring plate, said cross-membersand said anchoring plate each having a respective aperture and all of said apertures being aligned in the raised limiting position of the gate member, and a latch bolt longitudinally slidable through said apertures for locking the gate member in said raised limiting position.
The gate preferably further comprises an upper end stop and a lower end stop both secured to the inner surface of the anchoring plate and positioned thereon so as to be abbuted by the said other parallel cross member respectively when said gate member is in the raised limiting position and in the lowered limiting position. Said upper and lower end stops may advantageously be resiliently deformable.
The gate may further comprise a lock positioned on the gate member and including a cover plate having anaperture, said aperture being aligned with the apertures of the cross-members and receiving said latch bolt.
In the accompanying drawing, showing a non-limiting example of construction of the invention;
FIG. 1 is a transverse section of the gate in its raised position,
FIG. 2 is an elevation of a section,
FIG. 3 is a plan view of a cross-piece,
FIG. 4 is a transverse section of the gate in its lowered position. i
The gate comprises a semi-circular anchoring plate I mounted on a base-plate 2 fitted with fixing claws 3,4.
A gate member made up of a bottom crosspiece 5, lateral uprights 6, 7 and a top cross-piece 8, pivots about a horizontal axis 5a coaxial with the anchoring plate 1. The uprights 6, 7 are coupled by two spaced gate, with parts shown in resilient end stop Through the apertures in the cross-members 9 and 10 and in the plate 1 there is engaged a latch bolt cons isting of the rod 14 which is slidable through an apertured cover platel4a of a lock mounted on a crossmember 15.
The plate 1 is fitted on its inner face 16 with an upper 17 which is abutted by the gate member in its raised position and serves to align the bolt 14 precisely with the aperture 1 1.
Conversely, when the rod 14 is disengaged from the aperture 11 of the plate 1, the gate member can fall downwardly about its pivot until it abuts a lower resilient end stop 18, the latter preventing the gate member from hitting the ground 20, and absorbing all shocks, even if the ate member has to bear a weight in its horizontal posl ion, which happens if a load is dropped on it, or if the unit is inadvertently leaned on, or even if a vehicle hits it.
The lower end stop '18 is preferably very flexible while the top stop 17 is stiffer in texture.
I claim:
1. A closure system comprising: a gate member which pivots from a horizontal lowered open position to a raised closed vertical limiting position about a horizontal axis, said gate comprising upper and lower apertured horizontal cross members and two side members which connect said cross members; horizontal pivot means cooperating with said lower cross member; a semi-circular anchoring base plate assembly enclosing said pivot means and said lower cross member, resiliently deformable end stop means secured to said anchoring plate and engageable with said gate member at limiting horizontal and vertical positions of said gate member; and a latch bolt longitudinally slidable through aligned apertures in both said cross members and in said anchoring plate to lock said gate upright against pivoting.
