SAMUEL WALTER, OF DALLAS CITY, ILLINOIS.
BUCKSAW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368,632, dated August 23, 1887. Application filed February 23, 1887. Serial No. 228,772. (Model) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL WALTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas City, Hancock county, Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bucksaws, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to bucksaws, and more particularly to devices fortensioning such saws.
The invention consists in the features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a View of my Fig. 2 is a view of lever.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings, A represents the frame of an ordinary bucksaw having the arms aand a.
B represents an open link, which is hooked over arm a, and which is in its open end pro vided with the eyelets b.
O is a lever having one end claw-shaped, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and forked in its other end. The claw on the end of the lever G fits over the arms of the link B, and prevents lateral movement of the lever. Each of the prongs of the forked end of lever O has a round lug, c,which lugs are inserted and turn in the eyelets b. The prongs ofthe forked end of lever O are pivoted midway to a screwcoupling, D, by a bolt, d,which takes into the perforation e. The screw-coupling in its screwthreaded end passes through a perforation in the link E, and is adjusted therein by means of a nut. The link E hooks over the arm a of frame A.
The operation of my invention is as follows: The lever (3, when inserted by means of its lugs in the eyelets of the open link B, lies between this open link. It is then turned forward so that the clawed end of this lever will engage the arms of link B. In this position the screw-coupling is drawn up to its full tension. If, now, the lever O is freed in its engagement from link B and turned back, it acts as an eccentric to this screw-coupling, and allows the screw-coupling to move backward, whereby the tension is loosened. The object of this nut upon the screw-threaded end of the coupling D is to adjust the length of the coupling.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In abucksaw, the combination, with the frame A, having arms a a and links B and E, of a lever, 0, having a claw-shaped end and a forked end provided with outwardly-projecting lugs adapted to enter eyelets formed on the ends of the link B, and said claw-shaped end adapted to engage the arms of said link B, and a rod connnecting the said lever with the link E, substantially as described.
2. In abucksaw, the combination, with the frame A and arms a and a, of the link 13, provided on its ends with the eyelets b b, a lever, O, having a claw-shaped end and aforked end, said forked end provided with outwardlyprojecting lugs, which enter the eyelets b b, a link, E, having a screw-coupling, D, said screw-coupling D being pivoted between the forked end of the lever O, substantially as described.
