2 Claims, 2 Drawlng Figures EEENEFEM. 25 m2 MAURICE N. BURLEY GARBAGE CAN LID HOLDING DEVICE This invention relates to devices for garbage cans, and more particularly to a garbage can lid holding device.
It is therefore the primary purpose of this invention to provide a garbage can lid holding device which may be secured by suitable fasteners to pipe or stake and the like, the device providing means for supporting the garbage can lid.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type described which will have an arcuate frame member having parallel cross members to which are secured a pair of arms to which is attached a coil spring, the opposite end of the coil spring being attached to the arcuate frame portion of the device.
Another object of this invention is to provide a lid holder which will have spring clamp means on the arm portion for grippingly engaging the garbage can lid and the arcuate frame portion will have a mounting member for securement means to the plate portion of the upper extremity of the stake, stand, fence, post and the like.
A further object of this invention is to provide a lid holder which will include a separatable pipe portion which will include coupling means for each section on the lowermost portion will be provided with a step member for urging the pipes into the ground by the foot of the user.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a garbage can lid holding device which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention; and
FIG. 2 is an enlarged vertical and fragmentary view of the support pipe members shown in FIG. 1.
According to this invention, a garbage can lid holding device is shown to include an arcuately configurated frame 11 portion having cross bar members 12 which are parallel spaced apart and are secured to one end of arm 13 by suitable fasteners 13. An elongated coil spring 14 is secured at one end to frame 11 by means of a suitable fastener 15 and the opposite end of spring 14 is secured by a suitable fastener 16 to the arms 13. The outer extremity of arms 13 are secured fixedly to a spring clamp 17 which serves to grip a garbage can lid (not shown).
A mounting member 18 on one end of frame 11 provides a means of securing frame 11 to a plate 19, plate 19 being fixedly secured to the upper extremity of pole '20. Plate 19 is secured to mounting member 18 of frame 11 by means of a pair of suitable fasteners 21. Pole 20 is also collapsable for packaging, by being made up of a plurality of pipe sections 22 and 23 which are held together by internally threaded couplings 24. The lowermost pipe section 23 is provided with a pointed end 25 for insertion into the ground, and is furtherprovided with an outwardly extending step 26 which is supported underneath by means of a gusset 27. Step member 26 provides a means for the installer of device 10 to urge the pointed end 25 of pipe 23 into the ground.
It shall be noted that the arms 13 may be constructed in longer and shorter length for larger or smaller garbage cans while still utilizing the same spring 14.
What I claim is:
1. A garbage can lid holder comprising a vertical support member, an arcuate frame member with parallel cross bar members carrying pivotable arms, said pivotable arms being controlled by springs means secured to said arms and arcuate frame and spring clamp means upon said arms providing gripping means for said garbage can lid.
2. A garbage can lid holder, comprising a generally semicircular arcuate frame having a pair of parallel cross bars secured to opposite ends of the frame, a pair of pivotable, parallel arms being connected pivotably free at their one ends to a longitudinally intermediate portion of said cross bars, the opposite ends of said arms being both secured to a spring clamp therebetween, the lon 'tudinally intermediate portions of said arms being attached to a fastener therebetween and to which one end of a tension coil spring is secured, the other end of the spring being attached to an intermediate portion of said ar'cuate frame, said clamp serving to grasp a lid of a garbage can, a mounting member on one end of said arcuate frame of said device providing securement means for said frame to a pole for being driven to the ground, said pole having plate means for for engagement with said mounting member and said mounting member being secured to said plate of said pole by a pair of suitable fasteners and said pole including a plurality of pipe sections each being externally threaded for receiving an internally threaded coupling, said couplings providing a means for collapsing said pole when desired for packaging and the lower pipe section of said pole including a projecting step member with gussets support means for rigidity, said step serving as a means for the installer to urge his foot downwards in order to urge the pointed end of said lower pipe section into the ground and said mounting member of said arcuate frame providing means for securing said arcuate frame to stands, fences, posts and the like.
Claims (2)
