Abstract

A pair of ski and ski pole carrying grips made of elongate resilient straps. Each strap has two apertures at its upper end, one for receiving the handle of a ski pole and the other for receiving the tip of a second ski pole. Each strap has another aperture in its lower end for receiving the upper end of the strap when the strap is placed around a pair of skis.

Field of the Invention This invention relates to gripping devices and more particularly to a carrying grip for a pair of skis and ski poles.
2. State of the Art Presently there are several devices commercially available for clamping a pair of skis together for storage and carrying. These devices typically comprise a rubber strap having a metal clasp for attaching the ends together around a pair of skis. To the best of my knowledge however, no provision has been made for holding a pair of ski poles with the skis in an orderly manner so as to provide a carrying handle for the entire package.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION My invention provides a very simple and inexpensive means for securely holding a pair of skis together with a pair of ski poles in a compact aligned manner to facilitate carrying them with one hand.
The skis and poles are held by a pair of gripping straps. Each strap comprises an elongate resilient member having three holes formed therein, two of which tightly hold the ski poles and the other receives the upper end of the strap which is looped tightly around the pair of skis.
The gripping straps have a sufficiently large flat surface so that ski shops can place their names, trademarks and other identifying indicia thereon. The grips are sufficiently low in cost that they may be given away as a promotional advertising item to each purchaser of a new set of skis and poles.
Other objects, features and advantages of my invention will be apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings showing a preferred embodiment of my invention for exemplification.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is an isometric view of a pair of my carrying grips in combination with a pair of skis and ski poles.
FIGS. 2 and 3 are isometric views of two straps forming a pair of my ski and pole carrying grips.
DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views, FIG. 1 shows the gripping straps l and 20 holding a pair of skis 30 and ski poles 31 and 32. The elongate straps are made of resilient material, such as rubber or the like. As shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the straps l0 and 20 are identical except for the arrangement of the apertures at their upper ends.
Strap has a first circular aperture 11 formed in the upper end thereof, as shown in FIG. 2, for receiving the handle end of a ski pole such as 31 in the manner shown in FIG. I. Strap I0 has a second circular aperture 12 formed in its lower end for receiving the upper end of the strap when it is looped around a pair of skis in the manner shown in FIG. 1. The second aperture 12 is substantially smaller in diameter than the width (w) of the strap so as to frictionally hold the strap against slippage when the strap is pulled snugly around the skis. A third aperture 13 is formed in the upper end of the strap between apertures 11 and 12 and being smaller than aperture 11 for receiving the tip end of a second ski pole such as 32 in the manner shown in FIG. 1.
Strap has a first circular aperture 21 formed in the upper end thereof, as best shown in FIG. 3, for receiving the handle end of ski pole 32 in the manner shown in FIG. 1. Strap 20 has a second circular aperture 22 formed in its lower end for receiving the upper end of the strap when it is looped around a pair of skis in the manner shown in FIG. I. As with strap 10, the aperture 22 in strap 20 is smaller in size than the width (w) of the strap so as to frictionally hold the strap against slippage when it is pulled snugly around the skis. A third aperture 23 is formed in the upper end of strap 20 above first aperture 21 for receiving the tip end of ski pole 31 in the manner shown in FIG. 1.
It will be noted that the apertures 13 and 23 for receiving the tip ends of the ski poles are substantially smaller than the apertures 11 and 21 for receiving the handle ends of the ski poles. All of these apertures are sufficiently small however so that the portion of a ski pole inserted therein expands the hole slightly whereby the edge of the aperture snugly grip the pole.
While all the apertures are shown to be of a circular configuration in the preferred form, it is understood that other shapes may be satisfactorily employed.
The upper ends 10a and 20a of straps 10 and 20 are tapered, such as in the curved manner shown in the drawings, to facilitate easy insertion of the upper ends 10a and 20a into apertures 12 and 22, respectively.
It is understood that the present invention is not confined to the particular construction and arrangement of parts herein illustrated and described, but embraces all such modified forms thereof as come within the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. A pair of ski and ski pole carrying grips comprising:
a. A first resilient strap having an upper end and a lower end, said first strap having 1. a first aperture in said upper end for receiving the handle end of a first ski pole,
2. a second aperture in said lower end for receiving said upper end when said first strap is looped around a pair of skis 3. a third aperture between said first and second apertures and being smaller than said first aperture for receiving the tip end of a second ski pole, and
b. a second resilient strap having an upper end and a lower end, said second strap having 1. a first aperture in said upper end for receiving the handle end of said second ski pole,
2. a second aperture in said lower end for receiving said upper end when said second strap is looped around a pair of skis, and
3. a third aperture in the upper end of said second strap above said first aperture and being smaller than said first aperture for'receiving the tip end of said first ski pole.
2. In combination with a pair of skis and pair of ski poles, a pair of carrying grips comprising:
a. A first resilient strap having an upper end and a lower end, said first strap having 1. a first aperture in said upper end for receiving the handle end of a first ski pole,
2. a second aperture in said lower end for receiving said upper end when said first strap is looped around a pair of skis 3. a third aperture between said first and second apertures and being smaller than said first aperture for receiving the tip end of a second ski pole, and
b. a second resilient strap having an upper end and a lower end, said second strap having I. a first aperture in said upper end for receiving the handle end of said second ski pole,
2. a second aperture in said lower end for receiving said upper end when said second strap is looped around a pair of skis, and
3. a third aperture in the upper end of said second strap above said first aperture and being smaller than said first aperture for receiving the tip end of said first ski pole.
3. A ski and ski pole carrying grip comprising: an elongate resilient strap having an upper end and a lower end, a first aperture in the upper end of said strap for receiving the handle end of a first ski pole, a second aperture in the lower end of said strap for receiving the upper end of said strap when said strap is looped around a pair of skis, and a third aperture in the upper end of said strap, said third aperture being smaller than strap is looped around a pair of skis, and a third aperture in the upper end of said strap, said third aperture being smaller than said first aperture for receiving the tip end of a second ski pole, said first aperture being positioned between said second and third apertures.

Claims (12)

1. A pair of ski and ski pole carrying grips comprising: a. A first resilient strap having an upper end and a lower end, said first strap having 1. a first aperture in said upper end for receiving the handle end of a first ski pole, 2. a second aperture in said lower end for receiving said upper end when said first strap is looped around a pair of skis 3. a third aperture between said first and second apertures and being smaller than said first aperture for receiving the tip end of a second ski pole, and b. a second resilient strap having an upper end and a lower end, said second strap having 1. a first aperture in said upper end for receiving the handle end of said second ski pole, 2. a second aperture in said lower end for receiving said upper end when said second strap is looped around a pair of skis, and 3. a third aperture in the upper end of said second strap above said first aperture and being smaller than said first aperture for receiving the tip end of said first ski pole.

A ski and ski pole carrying grip comprising: an elongate resilient strap having an upper end and a lower end, a first aperture in the upper end of said strap for receiving the handle end of a first ski pole, a second aperture in the lower end of said strap for receiving the upper end of said strap when said strap is looped around a pair of skis, and a third aperture in the upper end of said strap, said third aperture being smaller than said first aperture and positioned between said first and second apertures for receiving the tip end of a second ski pole.
