Description

W. D. MAYPIELD.
WATER ELEVATOR CHAIN.
N0 367,349. Patented July 26, 1887.
r I IJVV'EJV'TOR WZZQQ/770J W MQ v .dttorney PVITNESSES I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
WILLIAM DUDLEY MAYFIELD, OF FORT WORTH, ASSIGNOR TO W. F. MAY FIELD AND I. T. MAYFIELD, ,OF TARRANT COUNTY, TEXAS.
WATER-ELEVATOR CHAIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,349, dated July 26, 1887.
Application filed August 25, 1886. Serial No. 211,807.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM DUDLEY MAY- FIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort WVorth, in the county of 'Iarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ater-Elevator Chains; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure-1 of the drawings is a perspective view of a portion of an endless-chain water :5 elevator embodying my invention, and Fig. 2
a side elevation thereof iii section. The present invention has relation to that class of water-elevators in which the buckets are connected to an endless chain formed of wire,-the several links being connected to each other by eyes or loops formed thereon; and the object thereof is to improve the construction of this class of wire chains, whereby the bearings for the links are greatly increased and strengthened and the general construction of the chain rendered-more durable, also the links more conveniently coupled together or uncoupled without injury thereto. I attain these objects by the construction shown substantially in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanyingdrawings, A represents the bucket, of any desirable form and construction, and to the rear side or back of the (No model.)
bucket is the stationary link B, which is at- 5 tached thereto in any well-known manner, but preferably by flanges a, which form keepers for the wire link and retain it in position. The wire link B at one end has arms I), which engage with the double bearing eyes or loops 0, and by compressing the open end of the link 0 the link may be engaged or disengaged with said arms.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a water-elevator chain, the combination, with a series of rectangular-shaped links, each formed of a single piece of wire rolled over in loop form at one end of thelink to form double fold'bearings at the corners, and having its free ends turned and folded upon themselves, as shown, to form double fold-bearings at the opposite corner of the link, of aserics of plain rectangular wire links uniting and alternating with the aforesaid link, the plain links having their free ends bent toward each other to form pintles, and buckets clasped to the sides of the plain links and serving to lock them in the double fold-bearings at the free ends of the first-mentionedlinks, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM DUDLEY MAYFIELI).
