The foot and stem of the stemware is securely held in the base of the stand while the bowl portion is protected from contact with adjacently situated stemware by separator flaps.
A preferred embodiment of the invention has been chosen for purposes of illustration and is shown in the accompanying drawings which form a portion of the specification wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing the display stand of the present invention and four pieces of stemware held therein;
FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view showing how the pieces of stemware are inserted into the display stand;
FIG. 3 is a view in cross section taken along line 6-6 of FIG. 1 showing stemware held in the stand;
FIG. 4 is a plan view showing the planar blank from which the display stand is formed;
FIG. 5 shows the first step in the assembly of the display stand from a flat configuration;
FIG. 6 shows the second step in the assembly; and
FIG. 7 shows the last step in the assembly.
The display stand 1 of the present invention comprises a base 3 having a floor portion 5 and top portion 7 which are joined together at edges 9 and 11. The top portion 7 has recesses 13 formed therein which are adapted to receive the feet 15 of stemware 17, as shown in FIG. 3. The recesses 13 are formed in the shape of a circle at their innermost portion 19 and a slightly narrower slot at the outer portion 21, although the particular shape may be changed if desired.
An upright member 23 is attached to the floor 5 and extends upwardly through a centrally located slit 25 in the roof 7. The slit 25 has locking tabs 27 which snap into a slit 29 in the upright member 23 to lock the display stand in place. The upper portion of the upright 23 has separator flaps 31 formed therein to prevent the bowls 33 of adjacently situated stemware from hitting. A recess 35 between the roof 7 and floor 5 of the base 3 covers and holds at least a portion of foot 37 of the stemware after the stem 15 has been inserted in recess 13.
The display stand 1 is formed from the planar blank 2 shown in FIG. 4. For clarity the various portions of the blank have been labelled with the same reference numerals used to designate the portions they become in the final display stand. The blank has a central portion 7 which forms the top 7 of the base. It has recesses 13 and a centrally located slit 25 with holding tab 27. The central portion 7 is joined on either side at 9 and II by two portions 5 which form the floor of the base in the final display. Each portion 5 has an outer portion 23a attached to its outer end. The two outer portions 23a form the upright member 23 in the blank.
The blank 2 can be easily manipulated to form the display stand 1. The portion 7 is bent in half along the axis occupied by slit 25 and tab 27 at the same time that the outer portions 23a are further bent downwardly along hinge lines 4. This folding of portion 7 and the folding of 23 with respect to top 7 along hinge lines 4 will form the construction shown in FIG. 5. Upright member 23 will be held between the portions 5 and 7. In order to insure a sturdy construction the two portions 23a may be partially joined to one another by glue.
The final display stand 1 is easily formed as shown in FIGS. 5 to 7 by folding the construction shown in FIG. 5 at the positions indicated by reference numerals 9 and 11 thereby forcing the upright member through slit 25 until locking tab 27 snaps into slit 29 on the upright member. Separator flaps 31 are then folded outwardly to the position shown in FIGS. 1, 2
and 3.
It can be seen from the foregoing that a simply constructed display stand is provided which provides for safe storage of stemware. As these various changes, modifications and improvement may be made in the present invention without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention without sacrificing any of its advantages, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be taken as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A one piece display stand for stemware having a foot, a stern and a bowl comprising a base having a floor portion and an attached top portion superimposed over the floor portion, said top portion comprising two separate top panels, a slit in said top portion, an upright separator member connected to the floor portion and extending upwardly through the slit in the top portion, and means on the base to hold said upright separator member in position, said top portion having a recess adapted to receive the stem of stemware to permit the foot of the stemware to lie between the top portion and the floor portion and to be in contact therewith and be held thereby. a locking slot in the lower part of the upright separator member and between the end edges of said upright separator member. a locking tab extending from the top portion into the said slot and adapted to enter said locking slot, a pivoted flap on the upright separator member and extending outwardly therefrom to separate the bowl portions of adjacently positioned stemware.
2. A display stand as claimed in claim 1 in which the recess in the top portion is in the shape of a circle at its innermost portion and in the shape of a slot at its outer portion.
Claims (2)
1. A one piece display stand for stemware having a foot, a stem and a bowl comprising a base having a floor portion and an attached top portion superimposed over the floor portion, said top portion comprising two separate top panels, a slit in said top portion, an upright separator member connected to the floor portion and extending upwardly through the slit in the top portion, and means on the base to hold said upright separator member in position, said top portion having a recess adapted to receive the stem of stemware to permit the foot of the stemware to lie between the top portion and the floor portion and to be in contact therewith and be held thereby, a locking slot in the lower part of the upright separator member and between the end edges of said upright separator member, a locking tab extending from the top portion into the said slot and adapted to enter said locking slot, a pivoted flap on the upright separator member and extending outwardly therefrom to separate the bowl portions of adjacently positioned stemware.
2. A display stand as claimed in claim 1 in which the recess in the top portion is in the shape of a circle at its innermost portion and in the shape of a slot at its outer portion.
