- This invention relates to'a novel form of clay-press-feeding machine, the object of the invention being to provide for the feeding of the clay to the press in such quantities and at such times as may be required; and to the end named the invention consists of a revoluble plate or disk that is partially surrounded by a cylindrical curb in which there is an opening leading to a chute, to which the clay is delivered by means of a fixed scraper, the chute in turn delivering the clay to a revoluble cylinder that is arranged to throw the clay into the press, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

CLAY-PRESS FEEDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,174, eaten July 26, 18227.
Application filed November 19, 1886. Serial No. 219,346. (No model.)
.To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS FRANKLIN ANDERSON, of Walkers, in the county of O0- lumbiana and State of Ohio, have invented a' new and Improved Clay-Press Feeder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to'a novel form of clay-press-feeding machine, the object of the invention being to provide for the feeding of the clay to the press in such quantities and at such times as may be required; and to the end named the invention consists of a revoluble plate or disk that is partially surrounded by a cylindrical curb in which there is an opening leading to a chute, to which the clay is delivered by means of a fixed scraper, the chute in turn delivering the clay to a revoluble cylinder that is arranged to throw the clay into the press, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved form ofclay-feeding machine, and Fig. 2is a cross-sectional elevation taken on line as m of Fig. 1.
1n the drawings, 10 represents the main frame of the machine,which frame consists of vertical posts, horizontal sills and plates, and upper and lower cross-timbers, one of the upper cross-timbers (that shown at 11) serving as the support for the upper bearing, 12, of a vertical shaft, 13, the lower end of said shaft being stepped in a step, 14, that is supported by the frame 10. This shaft 13 carries a horizontal disk, 16, and a large bevel-gear, 17, the disk and the gear being fixed to the shaft.
A horizontal shaft, 18, that is provided with driving-pulleys 19 and 20, is mounted in proper bearings that are supported by the frame 10, and upon this shaft 18 there is loosely mounted a bevel gear or pinion, that is arranged to engage with the gear 17.
The sleeve 21 of the gear or pinion constitutes one-portion of a clutch, 30, the other 5o portion, 22, of said clutch being, mounted to ride upon a feather that is formed upon the shaft 18, this portion 22 of the clutch 30 being formed with a groove, 23, within which there rides the forked end 24 of a lever, 25, said A scraper, 36, is mounted so as to extend.

Such being the general construction of the machine, the operation is as follows: It will be understood that the shafts 18 and 13 are continually revolved through the medium of properly-applied belting. The clay to be fed to the press is delivered from the temperingmill onto the disk 16, then, as the clay is needed, the tender throws the clutch-section 22 into engagement with the clutch-section 21, and as the'clutch-sections engage the one with the other the disk 16 will be moved forward in the direction of the arrow shown in connection therewith in Fig. 1, thus carrying the clay previously delivered to the disk against the scraper 36, and as the clay so strikes against the scraper a portion thereof will be delivered to the chute 29, and by the chute will be deliveredto thercylinder 32, from which the press is fed, the quantity of clay delivered being entirely under the control of the tender.
