UNITED r STATES PA'IIENT OFFICE..
DAVID C. WILSON, OF PAINESVILLE, OHIO.
Specification forming part ot' Letters Patent No. l, dated October 14, 1862.
To tZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID C. VILsoN, of Painesville, in the county of Lake and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Machine for Holding Tailors PressBoards; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the Figure 1 is a Viewin perspective of the whole machine, and Fig. 2 a vertical section thereof, the same letters indicating similar parts in both drawings.
My invention consists of a stand or support, which is so constructed and arranged that a press-board can be held firm and steady therein and be readily disengaged or shifted when required, thus obviating the necessity ot' the workman holding the press-board on his lap when pressing seams, &c., the same being of a portable character, so that it can be attached to the work-bench near the workman or to a separate board, so as to be movable.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A, Fig. l, is the stand, of cast-iron, and formed in one piece. Its essential features and rectangular frame-opening D, the said foot and table being extended in the direction shown in the figure.
said table is covered with felt at the ends,
The upper face of the leaving a space, E, between, as shown.
O11 the upper part ofthe rectangular frame D is a serewhole, F, through which is passed a crank handscrew, G.
His a platen, the under surface of which is also covered with felt. The hand-screw G passes through a hole in the center of said platen, to which it is secured by a nut, I, as shown in the sectional Fig. 2.
J is the press-board in common use with tailors. e
The operation is as follows:` The platen H is elevated by means ofthe hand-screw G, and
the pressboard J inserted between said platen and the table C, as shown in Fig. 2.y By turning the said hand screw the press-board is se cured between the platen and table, as shown. It is obvious the press-board can be quickly removed by turning back the handlscrew.
It will be seen that my machine can be fastened to the workbench or to a separate Inovable board, at the option of the workman.
Having thus explained thenatnre, construe.- tion, and operation of Iny invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, a tailors r pressboard holder constructed and arranged, and being` of the portable character, as herein particularly described, and operating as setforth.
DAVID C. VILSON.
