Field of the Invention The field of art to which this invention pertains is ironing tables with cabinet means therefor.
2. Description of the Prior Art The prior art of folding ironing boards has required space for storage of the board and inconvenience in arranging the board for operation thereon.
According to this invention a folding ironing board support and storage system is provided wherein the storage apparatus for the board addsto the attractiveness of the room wherein located, occupies very little space, conveniently places the board in operation, provides efiicient use of the building structure for support of the ironing board surface and has an unusual and unexpected mechanical stability.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A cabinet with thin flat horizontal cabinet elements transverse to and connected to thin flat vertical elements supporting and locating a folding ironing board and thin cabinet cover elements, in. operative position of the assembly in vertical planes at an angle to the thin flat vertical elements supporting and locating the ironing board, provide exceptionally great dimensional stability and reliability of support of the ironing board in any of several differently located releasable support means located on those thin flat vertically extending panels.
As the position and mechanical strength of the interior of the cover is utilized a decorative effect may be applied to the cover exterior.

In the description of the various panels and surfaces providing the components of the herebelow described apparatus, the sufiix "F" refers to a front edge, 13 refers to back edge, "T" refers to top surface, "U" refers to the bottom or underside, R" refers to right side, L" refers to left side: accordingly the panel 39 has an upper edge 39T, a back surface 398, a front surface 39F, a bottom surface 39U, a left edge 39L and a right edge 39R: corresponding suffixes are added to referent numerals for corresponding portions of other panels hereinbelow referred to.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Folding ironing apparatus 20 comprises an ironing board subassembly 21 and cabinet assembly 22 in operative combination.
The ironing board subassembly comprises a rigid flat board 23 and lug plate units 50 and 50A. Board 23 has a rounded front end 24, a flat top surface 25, a flat bottom surface 26, a right (as shown in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4 of the drawings) vertical edge 27, a left vertical edge 28 and a rear flat end 29.
The left lug plate assembly 50 is firmly attached to the left edge 28 of the board 21 near to its end 29 and extends to its end 29. The lug plate assembly 50, as shown in FIG. 5, comprises a flat vertical rigid plate 51, a left rear lateral lug 52 projecting to the left at its rear end, and, at its front end, a left front laterally projecting lug 53 which projects to the left of the plate. A right lug plate assembly 50A is firmly attached to the board right edge 27: assembly 50A comprises a flat rigid vertical plate 51A with a rear lateral lug 52A projecting laterally to the right and, at the front of the plate 51A, a right front lug 53A which projects laterally to the right of the plate 50A. The lug plate assembly 50 and the lug plate assembly 50A are mirror images of each other in size, shape and relative position on the board 21.
In general the cabinet assembly comprises a firm rigid structure formed of a group of cooperating panel elements 39 and 31-37 and shelf components -89 and a front or door panel assembly hingedly attached thereto. More particularly, the cabinet subassembly 22 comprises a rigid thin vertically extending flat rear panel 39, and a rigid thin vertically extending left lateral side panel 31, a rigid thin vertically extending right lateral side panel 32, a rigid thin horizontal top panel member 33, and a rigid thin horizontally extending thin bottom panel 34, a left central vertically extending thin flat panel 36 (located to the right of panel 31 parallel thereto) a right central vertically extending thin rigid panel 37 located parallel to and slightly to the left of panel 32; flat thin shelves 80, 81, 82 and 83 located between and attached to panels 36 and 31; flat thin shelves 85, 86, 87 and 88 located between and attached to panels 37 and 32; releasable slide assemblies 40 and 40A, cover hinge assemblies 38 and 38A and thin rigid front cover panels 30A and 30B and an intermediate bottom panel 35. Rear panel 39 is firmly fastened on its front face 39F to the rear edges of side panels 31 and 32 and to the rear edge of intermediate central penals 36 and 37 as well as to the rear edges of top and bottom panels 33 and 34 and to the rear edge of the intermediate panel 35 and also to the rear of shelves 80-83 and -88 so as to form a reinforcing as well as locating structure for the rear edges of those panels 31-37 and shelves 80-83 and 85-88 at the line and areas of contact there between in a continuous manner thereover.
Each of the shelves as 80 are firm strong relatively inflexible rectangular panels and serve not only to support material as 80E on the space thereabove, such as 80A, above shelf 80, (and space as 81A above shelf 81) but also passes compressive stress from the adjacent central vertical panel 36 to the adjacent lateral vertical panel as 31. Similarly, the shelves 85, 86, 87 and 88 not only support the matter in spaces thereabove (as shelf 85 supports objects as 85E in the space 85A above the shelf 85 and the shelf 86 supports material 865 in the space 86A thereabove and shelf 87 supports material 87E in the space 87A thereabove, and shelf 88 supports material in the space 88A thereabove) but also these shelves are sufficiently rigid to transmit compressive stress laterally from the intermediate or right central vertical panel 37 to panel 32.
The left intermediate panel 36 firmly supports on its right or central face 36R a releasable support slot assembly 40 and the right central panel 37 supports on its left or central face 37L a releasable support slot assembly 40A. Assembly 40 is a mirror image of assembly 40A. Each of the components of assembly 40A corresponding to components of assembly 40 are referred to and shown with the same referent numerals as in assembly 40 but are provided with the suffix A to distinguish therebetween.
The support slot assembly 40 comprises a plurality of parallel vertically spaced apart like slotted units 41, 42, 43. Unit 41 is at the bottom, unit 42 is intermediate, unit 43 is on top. Each of the slot assemblies as 41 through 43 comprises a plurality of parallel L-shaped flanges, the vertical base of which provides a vertical surface of attachment to the intermediate panel as 36 or 37 and the horizontally extending face of which provides a grooved surface for engagement with the lugs of the assembly 21. Unit 41 comprises a vertical flange plate 70, and horizontally extending flange portions 71, 72, 73 and 77 firmly attached thereto. Each of the slotted units as 41 has a top horizontal flange plate 71 and a bottom horizontal flange plate 72 parallel to each other; a front semi-cylindrical upwardly concave curved recess plate 73 is at the front end of the bottom plate 72 and an upper rear downwardly concave recess plate 77 is at the rear of the top flange plate 71. The plate 70 is provided with a plurality of screw holes as 78A for attachment of the assembly as 41 to the panel 36 and screws 79A or other attaching means firmly attached the plate 70 to the panel surface 36R.
The slide assembly 41 thereby is provided with a left rear vertically upwardly extending slot 61, a horizontally and forwardly extending slot 62 and a front vertically downwardly extending slot 63. Slots 61, 62 and 63 are continuous with each other. The top flange plate 71 extends over and defines the top of horizontal slot 62 and that flange plate 71 extends to the front of the rear vertical slot 62; a bottom flange plate 72 extends horizontally along and defines the bottom of the horizontal slot 62 and extends forwardly to the rear of the front vertically extending slot 63. Lugs .52 and 53 have a smooth sliding fit in slot 62. Each slot as 62 has a front opening 66 the same width and height as that slot has along the length of the horizontal portion of that slot as 62. A rigid stop plate 67 is provided at the back end of the horizontal slot 62 and is attached firmly to plates 72 and 77.
The spacing of the lugs 52 and 53 is the same as the spacing between the recesses of the slots 67 and 63 so that, in the operative position, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 6 those lugs engage those slots (shown in FIG. 6). The slot 63 is located thickness of board 23 rearward (about 1 inch) in embodiment 20 of Table l of the front edge of the panel 36. In the position of parts of FIG. 2 the lug 53 is firmly yet releasably seated in slot 63 while the rear or central lug 52 fits into the slot 61. The rear of slot 61 is adjacent the front surface 39F of panel 39. The distance between the front edge of the front lug 53 and the rear edge of the lug 52 is almost the same as but slightly smaller than the front to back width of the vertical panels 36 and 37 (measured from the area of attachment of the panel 36 to the front surface of rear panel 39 to the most forward extending front edge 36F of panel 36). Panels 3537 and the shelves 80-83 and 85-88 extend forward the same distance up to within one-eighth inch of the vertical plane defined by the interior surfaces 30R and 30AR of the door panels 30 and 30A.
Each of slot (or slide) assemblies 41 through 43 is similar to the other accordingly the description of one (41) applies to the others. The numbers of the corresponding parts are differentiated by different superscripts; thus the structure indicated as flange plate 71 in assembly 41 corresponds to flange plate 71' in slide assembly 42 and to flange plate 71" in assembly 43.
This structure of the slide assemblies and lug plate units provides that the board 23 may be located on slide assemblies 41, 42 or 43 by first locating the lugs 52 and 52A in any of the horizontal slots as 62 and 62A (or 62 and 62A or 62" and 62A") in any of the slide assemblies as 41 through 43. The lug 52 is then located in the recess 67 (of the upper flange) which forms the vertical extending slot 61 while the front lug 73 is located in the slot 63 while the lug 52A is located in the slot 61A and the lug 53A is located in the slot 63A. This provides for a definite location of assembly 21 in any of the several slots of the slide assemblies 40 and 40A and so provides for an adjustable height of the ironing board assembly 21.
Each of the shelf elements, as 83, is a rigid panel and serves as a support or buttressing element for the adjacent vertical panel as 36 because of a firm attachment of such shelf as 83 along its edges as 83B and 83R to elements as 39 and 36 respectively. Each shelf element as 83 has, parallel to its flat surface, as 83T, and in the horizontal plane, as shown by 831 in FIG. 3 substantial compressive strength and thereby resists lateral (leftward for panel 36, rightward for panel 37, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3) forces applied to the front and middle of such panel as 36. Accordingly, not only is the bending strength of each shelf element, as 83, used to support containers for helpful utensils 83E, 84E and 85E used in connection with the use of the ironing board, such as sprays for starch, stain removers, scissors and the like with the shelf 83 supported by parallel vertical panels 36 and 31 but, also, the compressive strength of each shelf, as 83, in combination with the firm attachment of such shelf to the adjacent portion of panels 39 and 36 is used to strengthen the .vertical intermediate panel 36 that supports the board 21. Further, the firm attachment of edges 83L and 83B to panels 31 and 39 respectively serves to make more rigid the portions of panel 39 between and adjacent to panels 31 and 36. Thereby the light structure 22 is made rigid and strong because, in the array and with the connections provided, the thin left panel 36 and the thin right panel 37 are supported and buttressed by the thin shelves as 81, 82 and 83 (for the panel 36) and the thin shelves 85, 86, 87 and 88 for the intermediate right panel 37).
The above description of one shelf, 83, relative to the panels adjacent thereto also applies to each of the other shelves as -82, -88 and also applies to the lateral portions 84 and 89 of the shelf 35; portion 84 is the portion of shelf 35 between and attached to panels 31 and 36 and portion 89 is the portion of shelf 35 between and attached to panels 32 and 37.
It will be noted that the piano hinge assemblies 38A and 38 extend below as well as above the vertical level of the point of attachment of the board 23 to the zone of support for that board; more particularly, the interdigitating hinge plates 90(and) 91 for the piano hinge 38 and the interdigitating hinge plates 92-(and)93 for the piano hinge assembly' 38A are firmly attached to panels 31(and)-30 and 32 and 30A' respectively from the very top edge of those panels to the very bottom edges thereof; more particularly, the hinge plate 90 of assembly 38 extends along the front edge 31F of the panel 31 from the top edge 31T thereof to the bottom edge 31U thereof while the hinge plate 92 of assembly 38A extends along the front edge 32F of the panel 32 from the top edge 32T to the bottom edge 32U thereof. Each of the cover panels 30 and 30A are rigid flat panels; these are relatively thin, i.e. only one-fourth to one-half inch thick, butquite rigid and resistant to bending in the vertical plane which includes the hinge plate as 90 on panel 30 and 93 on panel 30A. A single rigid hinge pin 94 passes through all the interdigitating hinge elements of plates 90 and 91 and a single rigid hinge pin 95 passes through all interdigitating hinge elements of plate 92 and 93.
Accordingly, in the operative position of assembly 20 the front portions of the outer side walls 31 and 32 are operatively connected to and stiffened by the cover walls 308 and 30A and the side walls 31 and 32 are also firmly joined along their rear edges 31R and 32R to the rear panel 39 along the entire length of such side walls. Accordingly, the outer walls 31 and 32 are very substantially reinforced at their font edges and at their rear edges by these elements. These reinforced side walls 31 and 32 in turn provide firm support to the intermediate vertical walls as 37 and 38 through the attachment therebetween by the compression force borne by members as 80-84 between walls 36 and 31 and members 85-89 between walls 37 and 32. This prevents any motion of walls 36 and 37 as might result in the loosening of the connection between the lugs as 52 and 53 in their slots as 61, 62 and 63 and lugs as 52A and 53A in slots 61A, 62A and 63A, notwithstanding the vigorous shaking motion given by the operator of an ironing board to that board with a relatively heavy implement (the conventional electric or steam iron).
In operation, as shown in FIG. 3, the operative 100 moves the iron 101 in a direction 102 which has at least a substantial component transverse to the length or rear-to-front direction of the board 21. The door members 30B and 30A are located, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, perpendicular to the members 31 and 32 and thereby, through hinges 38 and 38A, provide ribbing or reinforcement to the front edges of such vertical members 31 and 32. Accordingly, as such door members do not bend in the plane of the hinge pins as 94 and 95, the members 31 and 32 and the members 37 and 36 do not bend in a direction transverse to their length; this cumulative and synergistic action of ribbing members provides a surprisingly phsychologically reassuring steadiness to the ironing board 23 notwithstanding the light weight and thin structural components of cabinet subassembly 22 whereby it is easily wallsupported and board 23 is readily accessible without taking up floor space for storage.
Embodiment 120 comprises an ironing board subassembly 21 and a cabinet subassembly 122 in operative combination. Subassembly 21 is identical to subassembly 21 of apparatus 20 and subassembly 122 is identical to subassembly 22 of apparatus 20 except that the doors 30A and 30B and hinge assemblies 38 and 38A are replaced by a single door 130 and one, left side, hinge 138 identical with hinge assembly 38 of apparatus 20. 1
In the embodiment 120 of the invention only one door 130 is used. As shown in FIG. 3, a right handed person pushes the iron 101 in the direction 102 toward wall '36; such a right handed person also opens the door 130 at its right side 130R by pivoting such door along its left edge. 1301. to provide access by the operators right hand to a heavy implement as the iron 101 held in a space as 34A. Accordingly, in this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 7, the door 130 may be attached to the cabinet structure 122 (identical to 22 except for the door) only at the left hand side thereof. The left hand wall components as 36 and 31 will, with door 130 and hinge 138 (same as 38), resist bending forces applied to the panel 36 when such forces are applied in the direction of arrow 102 of FIG. 3 and prevent any distortion of the board 36 and any displacement of the lug assemblies 50 and 50A relative to the slot assemblies 40 and 40A. Accordingly, there will be no looseness developed at the point of attachment of the lugs of the ironing board in the slots which provide the support for the attachment of the ironing board to the supporting cabinet therefor.
In yet another embodiment 220 shown in FIG. 8 the left handed person pushes the iron in a direction opposite to that of arrow 102 of FIG. 3 and also opens the door 230 from its left side.
Embodiment 220 comprises an ironing board subassembly 21 and a cabinet subassembly 222 in operative combination. Subassembly 21 is identical to subassembly 21 of apparatus 20 and subassembly 222 is identical to subassembly 22 of apparatus 20 except that the doors 30A and 30B and hinge assemblies 38 and 38A are replaced by a single door 230 and one, right, side hinge 138A identical with hinge assembly 38A of apparatus 20.
A left handed person pushes the iron 101 in the direction (202) toward wall 37. Sucha left handed person also opens the door 230 at its left side and pivots such door along its right edge 230R to provide access by the operator's left hand to a heavy implement as the iron 101 held in a drawer of apparatus 220. Accordingly, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 8 the door 230 is attached to the remainder of the cabinet structure 22 only at the right hand side thereof. The right hand vertical cabinet wall panels as 37 and 32 and the door 230 will resist bending forces applied to the panel 37 when such forces are applied in the direction of the arrow 202 (of FIG. 3) and prevent any distortion of the board 37 and any displacement of the slot assembly 40A relative to the left hand slot assembly panel 40. Accordingly there will be no looseness developed at the point of attachment of the lugs of the ironing board in the slots which provide the support for the attachment of the ironing board to the cabinet therefor.
The wall 39 of cabinet 22 is firmly attached to the studs of the wall of the frame of the house in which used. Such at tachment is by a plurality of heavy screws pass through wall 39 and attached to the rear portions of members 36 and 37 near to the top thereof and firmly attached to studs and/or masonry of a wall therebehind. Thus the weight of the iron is borne by the rigid members 36 and 37; members 36 and 37 are buttressed by shelf members -83 and -88 which are attached to members 31, 36 and 37 and 39 as above described and reinforced by the hinged cover panels. The cabinet 22 is located at a height from the floor so that the location of the ironing board 21 is convenient to desired height of operation of the user.
The exterior surface, as 30F and 30AF of panels 30 and 30A of apparatus 20 and the front surface of the panels 130 of apparatus and the front surface of panel 230 of apparatus 220 are decorated as by painting, as on panel 130, with framing as 131 or by attachment thereto of decoratively designed element as 231 with framing. The panels as 30, 30A, and 230, while they do absorb stress, do not buckle and do not bend and, accordingly the decorative exterior surfaces thereof may provide the impression of depth and solidity by such decoration and the interior surfaces used to support materials, scissors, etc., and the interior surfaces as 30B and 30AB, 130B and 2303 are smooth and flat and provide no potentially harmful points or edges.
While some persons utilize an ironing board stroking from the base of the board in the manner hereinabove described it will be understood that other persons will move the iron and provide a forceful stroke toward the base from the point. Nevertheless the synergism of the several components of the cabinet subassembly 22, the cover and the ironing board subassembly 21 are provided by the hereinabove described structure in the same general manner as set forth by the particular structures hereinabove described.
The panels as 31-37, 39 and shelves 80-89 and covers 30, 30A, 130 and 230 are for convenience of appearance and weight, made of wood or plywood which also allows sufiicient thickness (as set out in Table I) to act as compression members across the length thereof (e.g. in horizontal direction for panels 31, 32, 36, 37 and 80-89 as above described) as well as the strength in tension transverse to the direction in which such compressive strength is required. The hinge portion as 40, 40A, 50 and 50A are made of metal, such as steel, to provide strong wear surfaces.
The dimensional stability provided by the above described structure of the cabinet subassembly 22 permits that each of the several levels of attachment of the ironing board assembly 21 (which may be made of metal, expanded metal or made of wood) to the subassembly 22 provide dimensional stability of the ironing board and hence allows height adjustment of ironing board assembly 21 when cabinet 22 is fixedly attached to a wall, rather than permitting only one height at which the ironing board may be used. In a family where the persons are of different height, which is the usual case, the height of the ironing board that may be most suitable for one person will not be optimum for another, hence the permissible variation in height of the ironing board in a space saving system as 20, 120, and 220 above described is of particular utility.
FIG. 2 shows in dashed lines a variation wherein additional horizontal shelves as 181 and 182 are provided between the vertical panel members 36 and 37 to which the ironing assembly 21 is most directly attached. These members 181 and 182 are each firmly attached to the members 36 and 37 and 39 and further strengthen and stiffen the structure 22. The front edges of members 181 and 182 are, as shown in FIG. 4, spaced rearwardly of the front edges of members 36 and 37 so that the ironing board 21 may be positioned between the front end of such members 181 and 182 and the rear face of the doors 30A and 30 (or 130 and 230) when the board is in the position shown in FIG. 4 and the cabinet is closed as in FIG. 1.
While the above structure is described for an ironing board, the flat stiff assembly 21 could, according to this invention, be replaced by (a) a desk-type surface or a surface adapted by grooves and dashed areas to be used as a (b) bar or (c) dining surface in the open position shown in FIG. 2 so that the assembly 20 would provide a foldable and decorative disappearing (a) desk or (b) bar or (c) dining table with the feature of stability above described. Additionally, the assembly 22 could when 14% inch in .total width be recessed within a wall in the 14% inch space between conventional nominal 2 inch X 4 inch wooden studs located on 16-inch center-to-center distance. The hinges 38 and 38A are then located so that the doors 30 and 30A lie parallel to the wall in open as well as closed position.
As shown in the drawings and above described the panels as 31-37 and 80-84, and 85-89 forming the cabinet subassembly 22 are extremely firmly joined, the panel as 39 is undercut to form grooves to firmly seat panels 36 and 37; panels 36 and 31 are similarly undercut to firmly seat panels 80-84; panels 32 and 37 are similarly undercut to firmly seat panels 85-89; these panels are firmly connected by glue andscrews and panels 31, 32 and 35 are also firmly connected to panels 39 33 and 34 by glue and screws.
As shown in FIG. 4, the front edge of each of the flanges as 72 and 71 of the slot assemblies 41-43 extend substantially up to. the front edge of panel 36 (as do the flanges of assemblies 4lA-43A on panel 37) and the width of the board 23 plus the width of the lugs 52 and 52A (and 53 and 53A) smoothly or snugly fit between wall surfaces 36R and 37L and between flanges as 71 and 71 and board 23 smoothly fits between the flanges of assemblies 41-43 and 4lA-43A so that the full width of the panels 36 and 37 is used; shelves 181 and 182 are not as wide as shelves 80-89 to provide space for the board 23 in position shown in FIG. 2.
I claim:
1. In operative combination, a movable and adjustable ironing board assembly and a cabinet support therefore,
said ironing board assembly comprising a rigid board and laterally projecting lugs, two of said lugs spaced apart along each side of said board and both nearer to one end of said board than the other;
the cabinet comprising:
a. vertically extending outer side wall members, a rear panel firmly extending between and attached to both said side walls and a top wall member extending between and attached to the top of said outer side wall members and a bottom wall extending between and attached to the bottom of said side wall members,
b. a vertically extending rigid front door, said front door being rigid, adjacent to and extending as a unit from top to bottom of one outer side wall and pivotally attached to the front end of an outer side wall by a hinge, and
c. vertically extending intermediate partition members between said outer side wall members, and
d. horizontally extending shelving members between said intermediate partition members and said outer side wall members in combination with e. a plurality of like pairs of vertically spaced apart like slotted members for adjustably yet firmly locating and supporting said ironing board on said intermediate partition members, between said intermediate partition members, one member of each of said like pairs of slotted members firmly attached at its lateral side to one side of one of the vertically extending partition members and comprising i. a lower horizontally extending slide surface continuous and level, with the opening of a front, upwardly open, downwardly extending recess, and
ii. an upper horizontally extending slide surface level and continuous with a rear downwardly open upwardly extending recess, and
iii. a slot between said upper and lower horizontally extending slide surfaces, said slot open at the front and of the partition member to which said slotted member is attached, and centrally, and closed at its rear, said laterally projecting lugs on one side of said ironing board slidably fitting in said slot and in said front opening of said slot and wherein;
f. said hinge between the vertically extending outer side wall of the cabinet and the vertically extending door extends above and below the attachments of said slotted members on the intermediate partition member, and
g. said hinge attaches to said door and to said outer side wall at a plurality of points above and below the attachment of said slotted members to said intermediate partition members, said points vertically spaced apart,
h. said intermediate partition members, said top wall member and said rear panel member enclose an upper central cabinet space therebetween above said vertically spaced apart slotted members and behind the front end of said outer side walls.
2. Apparatus as in claim 1 wherein said door supports a decorative design on its exterior.
3. Apparatus as in claim 1 wherein said door is one of two doors, said horizontally extending shelving members and said intermediate partition members extend to the front of said outer side walls and one of said doors is hingedly supported on the front of one of said outer side walls by a hinge that continuously extends from the top of one outer side wall to the bottom thereof and the other of which doors is hingedly supported on the front of another of said outer side walls by a like hinge, and the combined width of the two doors is substantially the same as the distance between said outer side walls, whereby, when said doors are in closed position on said cabinet said doors cover the front of said, cabinet and horizontally extending shelf members are located in said upper central cabinet space above said spaced apart slotted members and are attached to said intermediate partition members.
4. Apparatus as in claim 3 wherein each of said doors supports a decorative design on its exterior.

Claims (4)

1. In operative combination, a movable and adjustable ironing board assembly and a cabinet support therefore, said ironing board assembly comprising a rigid board and laterally projecting lugs, two of said lugs spaced apart along each side of said board and both nearer to one end of said board than the other; the cabinet comprising: a. vertically extending outer side wall members, a rear panel firmly extending between and attached to both said side walls and a top wall member extending between and attached to the top of said outer side wall members and a bottom wall extending between and attached to the bottom of said side wall members, b. a vertically extending rigid front door, said front door being rigid, adjacent to and extending as a unit from top to bottom of one outer side wall and pivotally attached to the front end of an outer side wall by a hinge, and c. vertically extending intermediate partition members between said outer side wall members, and d. horizontally extending shelving members between said intermediate partition members and said outer side wall members in combination with e. a plurality of like pairs of vertically spaced apart like slotted members for adjustably yet firmly locating and supporting said ironing board on said intermediate partition members, between said intermediate partition members, one member of each of said like pairs of slotted members firmly attached at its lateral side to one side of one of the vertically extending partition members and comprising i. a lower horizontally extending slide surface continuous and level, with the opening of a front, upwardly open, downwardly extending recess, and ii. an upper horizontally extending slide surface level and continuous with a rear downwardly open upwardly extending recess, and iii. a slot between said upper and lower horizontally extending slide surfaces, said slot open at the front and of the partition member to which said slotted member is attached, and centrally, and closed at its rear, said laterally projecting lugs on one side of said ironing board slidably fitting in said slot and in said front opening of said slot and wherein; f. said hinge between the vertically extending outer side wall of the cabinet and the vertically extending door extends above and below the attachments of said slotted members on the intermediate partition member, and g. said hinge attaches to said door and to said outer side wall at a plurality of points above and below the attachment of said slotted members to said intermediate partition members, said points vertically spaced apart, h. said intermediate partition members, said top wall member and said rear panel member enclose an upper central cabinet space therebetween above said vertically spaced apart slotted members and behind the front end of said outer side walls.
2. Apparatus as in claim 1 wherein said door supports a decorative design on its exterior.
3. Apparatus as in claim 1 wherein said door is one of two doors, said horizontally extending shelving members and said intermediate partition members extend to the front of said outer side walls and one of said doors is hingedly supported on the front of one of said outer side walls by a hinge that continuously extends from the top of one outer side wall to the bottom thereof and the other of which doors is hingedly supported on the front of another of said outer side walls by a like hinge, and the combined width of the two doors is substantially the same as the distance between said outer side walls, whereby, when said doors are in closed position on said cabinet said doors cover the front of said, cabinet and horizontally extending shelf members are located in said upper central cabinet space above said spaced apart slotted members and are attached to said intermediate partition members.
4. Apparatus as in claim 3 wherein each of said doors supports a decorative design on its exterior.
