7 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures PATENTEDMAY 16 m2 INVENTOR. A
Groaf ATTORN Wigs are normally maintained by shampooing, chemical cleansing, dyeing, permanent waving, setting, etc. There are devices known in the art for supporting wigs during the treat ing and processing thereof. Once such device is shown in US. Pat. No. 3,447,726. The device shown in this patent includes a wig supporting member comprising the plurality of spaced ribs which are adapted to adjustably accommodate wigs of various sizes and including a handle internally connected to a crown from which the ribs extend. Albeit this device is well suited for treating a wig in a liquid while manually supported by the handle, because the handle is attached to the interior and also acts as a support, it is possible that liquid can drip from the wig onto an individuals hand grasping the handle while attaching the handle to a support. In many instances, it is very undesirable for the liquid with which the wig has been treated to come into contact with the human hand. Furthermore, once the handle is in the position to act as a support, the flexibility of the ribs of the device are frequently not firm enough to support the wig for further treatment of the wig such as setting while supported thereon.
Accordingly, it is an object and feature of this invention to provide a device for supporting a wig which includes a bulbous means for receiving and supporting a wig on the exterior thereof and with a handle means extending from the exterior.
In correlation with the foregoing objects and features, it is another object and feature of this invention to provide such a device which is pervious to allow fluid flow therethrough and has a concave interior for disposition on a skull shaped sup- 011. p Other objects and attendant advantages of the present invention will be readily appreciated as the same becomes better understood by reference to the following detailed description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a device for supporting a wig constructed in accordance with the instant invention; and
FIG. 2 is a cross sectional view of a preferred embodiment of the instant invention showing the device for supporting a wig of FIG. 1 disposed on a skull shaped support.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like numerals indicate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, there is generally shown at in FIG. 1 a device for supporting a wig. The device 10 includes a bulbous means 12 for receiving and supporting a wig on the exterior thereof. The device 10 also includes a handle means generally indicated at 14 and extending from the exterior of the bulbous means 12.
The bulbous means 12 comprises an integral member preferably made of plastic and having a convex exterior and a concave interior. The integral member defining the bulbous means 12 is substantially inflexible so as to retain its configuration. The integral member defining the bulbous means 12 is also pervious to allow fluid flow therethrough, the integral member being pervious by having openings 16 extending therethrough.
There is also included retaining means comprising the pins or tabs 18 extending from the lower periphery of the exterior of the integral member for retaining a wig thereon.
The device also includes connection means generally indicated at 20 for removably connecting the handle means 14 to the integral member defining the bulbous means 12. The connection means includes a generally C-shaped member 22 connected to the end of the handle means 14. The handle means 14 and the generally C-shaped member 22 are preferably made of plastic with the C-shaped member 22 being flexible. Attached to the exterior of the integral member defining the bulbous means 12 is a T-shaped portion 24. The C-shaped portion 22 snaps over the T-shaped portion 24 for connecting the handle to the integral member defining the bulbous means 12. Extending from the integral member defining the bulbous means 12 at either end of the T-shaped member 24 are the guides or posts 26 which limit lateral movement of the handle means 14 relative to the T-shaped portion 24.
FIG. 2 discloses the device 10 disposed on a skull shaped support generally indicated at 30. The support 30 includes an upper skull shaped portion 32 and a lower base 34, the base 34 being flat for resting on a surface. The skull shaped support 30 is preferably made of a polystyrene or plastic material.
There are also included fastening means comprising the pins or spikes 36 which extend through the integral member defining the bulbous means 12 and into the skull shaped support 30 for interconnecting the skull shaped support 30 and the integral member defining the bulbous means 12 to limit relative movement therebetween. The spikes or pins 36 prevent relative movement as a wig secured to the bulbous means 12 is being treated.
The skull shaped support 30 has a chamber 38 on the interior thereof. The skull shaped support 30 also includes passage means including the passages 40 for directing the flow of gases through the openings 16 in the integral member defining the bulbous means 12. The passage means also includes an inlet passage 42 for communicating between the chamber 38 and the exterior of the support 30. A nozzle of a hair dryer or similar device for providing gas or air may be disposed in the inlet passage 42.
Although the skull shaped support 30 is shown as including the passages 40, the support 30 may be porous at least in the skull shaped upper portion 32 thereof to allow gaseous flow therethrough.
In maintaining a wig with the instant invention, a wig may be disposed on the bulbous means 12 by attaching the netting or base of the wig to the pins 18 and manipulating the wig to the proper position with the handle means 14. In other words, the bulbous means 12 may be positioned so as to apply liquid to the exterior of the wig or to the interior thereof by flowing through the openings 16. Once the wig has been treated with the liquid, the bulbous means 12 may be disposed on the skull shaped support as shown in FIG. 2 and gases directed through the inlet passage 42 into the chamber 38 and through the passages 40 for drying the wig which is disposed on the exterior of the bulbous means 12. Once the bulbous means 12 is disposed upon the skull shaped support 30 as shown in FIG. 2, the handle means 14 may be detached from the bulbous means 12 to facilitate or make readily accessible the wig for further treatment such as setting, Waving or the like.
