T0 at whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD G. DEAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Anti- Friction Rollers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawi n gs, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification. v
This invention relates to certain improvementsivin anti-friction rollers, and it has forits objects to provide a roller that insures duranions or journals D, which bear in annular grooves E in the sides A. It can be seen by' the drawings that the rollers are concave at their centers, having at the ends a narrow bearingsurface which rolls upon the solid core,
causes them to roll upon the solid core and upon their trunnions in the annulangrooves, the most of the strain being upon the surface of the solid core, the trunnions of the rollers serving merely as guides in the annular grooves.
I do not limit myself to the use of this invention to cable roads; but it can be adapted to other uses, such as blocks and tackles, pulleys, 8m.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the sides A, having abutting solid cores B,-and secured together by transverse bolts, of the anti-friction rollers provided with journals D, arranged totravel in annular grooves in the sides A, and having concave surfaces over which a traveling cable or belt may pass, substantially as specified.
