Thomas M. Hester Sn members, the clamp members being secured fixedly to a wooden or pressed board top.
Another object of this invention is to provide a multipurpose table which will have removable rail means to afford arm rest means and hook holding means when desired. a
A further object of this invention is to provide a table of the type described which will be adjustable as to the angle by having spring means attached to an inverted and tubular member.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a table of which the lower portion of the frame will have a plurality of balls which serve as casters for moving the table about.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a mu]- tipurpose table which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a front view of the present invention shown in elevation.
FIG. 2 is a side view of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 3 is a bottom plan view of FIG. 1.
According to this invention, a table is shown to include a tubular frame 11 of lightweight metal. On the front end of table 10 is secured in a manner which hereinafter will be described, an inverted U-shaped tubular member 12, the open ends of which telescopingly receive the ends 13 of frame 11.
A spring 14 is welded to tubular member 12 near each end and includes a projecting pin which encroachingly engages the outer periphery of ends 13 of frame 11 in order to render table 10 stationary at any desired angle.
It shall be noted that the ends 13 of frame 11 allow for raising and lowering the front of table 10 by pulling outwards on the bottom portion of spring 14 and adjusting to the height, after which the springs 14 may be released and by their inherent springiness, the associated pin 15 will again engage the ends 13 and render the table stationary at the desired angle.
Referring now to FIG. 2 of the drawing, it will be seen that the U-shaped clamps 16 are secured by a plurality of screw fasteners 16 to the underside of table top 17, the clamps 16 allowing for frame 1 l and tubular member 12 to be pivotable when adjusting the angle of table 10.
A removable rail 18 engages the table top 17 and rail 18 is provided with a pair of spaced apart recessed portions 19 which serve as arm rest means for table l0, the raised portion 19' serving as a book stop.
It shall also be noted that frame 11 of table 10 includes a tubular cross brace 20 which provides rigidity for frame 11.
Within the bottom portion 21 of frame 11 a plurality of spaced apart and rotatable balls 22 are carried which serve as caster means for moving table 10 about.
What I now claim is:
1. A multipurpose table, comprising, a tubular frame serving an adjustable support leg means for the top portion thereof, an inverted U-shaped tubular member carried by said frame with spring means for adjusting the angle of said table, cross-brace means carried by said table providing rigidity thereof, a top member carried by said table with means for securing said frame and said U-shaped tubular member, rail means carried by said table providing arm rest and book retaining means for said top of said table, said tubular frame of said table being provided with a horizontal portion at its upper extremity and the ends of said tubular frame being telescopically received within the open ends of said U-shaped tubular member, said horizontal portion of said frame and said U- shaped tubular member being pivotally secured within U- shaped clamp members, said U-shaped clamp members being securable by suitable fasteners to the underside of said top of said table, the ends of said frame being received within said ends of said U-shaped tubular member providing adjustment means for the height of the forward ends of said table, said height adjustment of the forward ends of said table being accomplished by urging the free ends of said spring outwards, thus freeing the pins of said springs from engaging the outer periphery of said ends of said frame allowing said ends to be urged inwards or outwards of said ends of said tubular member and upon releasing said springs said springs pins will again engage said free ends of said frame, said springs being secured fixedly to the leg portions of said U-shaped member, the pins of said springs being freely carried within openings of said ends of said U-shaped tubular member, wherein said tubular frame of said table also includes a plurality of ball members, said ball members being free to rotate within openings through the bottom portion of said frame in order to allow said table to be easily moved along a surface and said cross-brace of said table being secured between the side portions of said frame in order to provide maximum rigidity for said frame and said top of said table being snappably engaged within said rail members said rail member having spaced apart recessed portions serving as arm rests for the user of said table, and the raised portion of the front of said table defining the separation of said arm rest portion, serving as rest means for the edge of a book or other article when placed on the top of said table.
