2 Claims, No Drawings TIN BASE ALLOY CONTAINING ALUMINUM, ZINC AND COPPER This invention pertains to a novel alloy having suitable properties for use in making ornamental or inexpensive jewelry articles.
An object of the invention is to provide a novel metal which can be substituted for bronze, brass, nickel and silver having better physical properties than such metals.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel metal for use in making ornamental work, flatware and jewelry.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel metal which can be used in articles wherein silver, nickel or chromium plating is normally required since the metal is noncorrosive and does not tarnish.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel metal which is easily rolled, stamped or drawn as well as being suitable for all kinds of casting or molding.
The alloy of this invention consists basically of a mixture of tin, aluminum, zinc and copper. More specifically, the percentage of tin should be greater than 51 percent and the percentage of each of the other elements is in the range of 2 to 25 percent.
A first example of the alloy is:
a. Tin 65% b. Aluminum 207:
c. Zinc [0% (1. Copper 5% A second example of the alloy is a. Tin 75% b. Aluminum 87:
c. Zinc 15% d. Copper 2% The alloy is compounded by melting the ingredients together at the required temperature of 700-750 Fahrenheit.
I claim:
1. A metal alloy consisting of tin 65 percent, aluminum 20 percent, zinc 10 percent and copper 5 percent.
2. A metal alloy consisting of tin 75 percent, aluminum 8 percent, zinc 15 percent and copper 3 percent.
