Description
UNITED STATES P TENT O FICE.
FRANKLIN P. BUROAW, or HAZLETO'N, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, T HIMSELF AND REUBEN E. OOKSENREIDER, or DERIN- GER, PENNSYLVANIA.
lRONlNG-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 364,800, dated June 14, 187.
Application filed May 25, 1886. Serial No. 903,224. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
' Be it known that I, FRANKLIN PIERCE BUR- UAW, of Hazleton, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Ironing-Table, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to the construction of a cheap, efficient, and durable ironing-table, the legs of which may be folded so that the device may occupy but a small space when not in use, the several connections, however, being of such a character thatwhen the table is opened and in position for use as an ironing-table it will beperfectly steady and cannot accidentally collapse.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this'specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved form of ironingtable on line or m of Fig. 3. Fig. 2 is a side view of the table as it appears when folded, and Fig. 3 is an inverted plan View of the folded table.
In the drawings above referred to, A'is the main body or leaf of the table, to the under side of the broad endof which there is socured a block, B. To the forward face of this block B there is hinged a diagonal bracingrod, 0, the upper end of which is beveled, so as to fit against the lower face of the block B. The main body of the leg ,0 is preferably of wood; but to the lower end of this wooden portion there is rigidly connected a bifurcated casting, D, the ends of which extend outward and downward in. a double curve, as illustrated, and constitute the feet of the leg. The main legs of the table are formed from a casting, E, upon the upper end of which there are forwardly-extending lugs F, and these lugs F are connected to brackets G by rivets or bolts H. When the legs are extended, the lugs F abut against the rear side of the block 13. Upon the lower side of the leg 0 there is socured a block, I, which, when the parts are extended to the position shown in Fig. 1, abuts against the cross-bar J of the legs E, To the upper face of the leg 0 there is pivotally connected, through the medium of curved brack- 5o etsK, a bracing-strip, L, the upper end and one side of which are slotted to receive a longitudinal rod, M, that is fixed upon the under. side of the table or leaf A, the forward end of this rod being held by a stop-block, N. A pin, 0, is passed through the outwardly-extending ends of the brace L and rides above the longitudinal rod or wire M, a supportingblock, S, is secured to the upper face of the leg 0, and Serves as a rest for the foot of the 50 brace L. p
When the table is open for use, the several parts will assume the position in which they areillustrated in Fig. 1, and from the construction shown it will be seen that all the movable parts will be arrangedso that they will abut against some fixed stop, and on ac count of the close connection of the movable parts of the table it will be found that there will be little or no side-play, and that the whole device will be exceedingly steady and firm.
When it is desired to pack the table away, the several parts may be adjusted to the position in which they are shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and in this position they will occupy but little space.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with a body or leaf of a table provided with a block on the under side of its forward end, of a diagonal leg hinged thereto and provided-with a block on its lower side, and main legs hinged to the on 8 der side of the said body or leaf and abutting against the said blocks, substantially as herein shown and describe 2. The combination, with an ironing-board, of the main legs E, provided with the lugs F and hinged to the under side of the board, a diagonal leg having a beveled end anda stopblock on its under side, hinged to the ironingboard between its forward end and the point of hinging of the main leg, and a brace hinged to the diagonal leg and working in a guide on the under side of ironing-board, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The c0mbinati0n,with the ironing-board of an ironing-table, of main legs hinged thereto in advance of a stop or block, B, a diagonal bracing-leg hinged to said block and formed with upper beveled end, a stop or block carried by the diagonal bracing-leg and arranged to abut against the inner face of the main legs,
a bracing-strip, L, the upper end of which is [0 slotted, a longitudinal wire or rod, M, riding in said slot, and a stop, N, against which the strip L abuts, substantially as described.
