UNITE STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. JoNEs, OFOORRY, PENNSYLVANIA.
BABY-JUMPER WITH CRIB AND VEHICLE ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364,592, dated June 7, 1887.
Application filed March 12, 1887. Serial No. 230,683. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be known that I, CHARLES H. JONES, a resident of Corry, in the county of Erie, in the State of Pennsylvania, and a citizen of the United States, have invented a Baby-Jumper with Crib and Vehicle Attachment, described in this specification and the drawings thereof.
The invention consists, first, of a frame of wire forming suspension-arms,havingseparate suspension-points and a seat-frame, which, with a woven willow, wire, upholstered, or other seat, forms a baby-jumper adapted to be suspended from springs depending from a ceiling or other support.
It consists, further, in a wire frame which, with woven willow, wire, or other material, formsa crib attachment adapted to be attached to'the jumper, so that the two combined form a baby-crib adapted to be suspended from pendent spring-support or a baby-vehicle body adapted for a baby-carriage or a baby-sled.
Of the construction shown, Figure l is a perspective view of the baby-jumper suspended from spring-supports. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same with the crib attachment forming a baby-crib. Fig. 5 is a detail view of attaching devices. Fig. 3'is a perspective view of the jumper, crib attachment, runninggear, and a parasol presenting a baby-vehicle body forming a baby-carriage. Fig. 4 is a detail view of connecting contrivances.
The babyjumper wire A, Fig. 1, is bent to form crossbar B, suspending loops 0, suspension-arms D, and seat-frame E, having stayloops F and bottom piece, G, in which the ends of the wire are united. The stay-loops F are connected by cross-support H, hooked thereto. The seat K may be made of woven willow, wire, or other material, worked on the seat-frame, though upholstered or other seats merely placed securely in the seat-frame may be used. The seat has safety-straps L and M properly secured and provided with buckles. The suspension-loops 0 connect with hook-links N hanging from springs O, securely fastened to a ceiling or other proper support.
The baby-crib attachment wires P, Fig. 2, are bent to form the crib attachment frame R, and are held in place by stay-wires S. The crib attachment frame may have worked on it woven willow, wire, or other material, to match that on the seat-frame of the jumper. The
bottom of the crib attachment may be made of woven willow, wire, or other material properly applied. The crib attachment is connected to the jumper by hooks T, chains U, and clasps, W under the seat K.
The jumper and crib attachment combined form a baby-crib adapted to be suspended from spring-supports, or a baby-vehicle body adapted for a baby-carriage or a baby-sled.
Thevehicle running-gear Y, including the handles Z, is fastened to the combined jumper and crib attachment by clamps A passing through the springs B. The parasol or canopy O is attached to the cross-bar B by a universal joint, D,and may be used with the jumper, crib, or vehicle. The jumper, the'crib attachment, the parasol, and the running-gear combined form a baby-carriage in separately detachable parts.
The details of construction may be varied within the scope of the invention from those described, and suitable equivalent contrivances may be employed therefor, and the running-gear may have runners or wheels to form a baby-sled or a baby-carriage, as'desired.
Thejumpenhaving two points of suspension, is comparatively free from turning motion. The crib, having spring-supports, is free from rough rocking action, has a soft soothing movement, and the advantages ofsuspension, while to be able to have a jumper, a crib, or a sled or carriage from one baby-vehicle is a consideration of economy and convenience.
I claim 1. A baby-jumper having a frame of wire forming a seat-support, and upwardly-extending suspension-arms,said frame provided with separate suspension devices, whereby the jumper is adapted to be suspended from separate pendent spring-supports, and thereby prevented from turning, substantially as described. v
2. A baby-jumper having a wire frame forming a seat-frame and suspension-arm, combined with a detachable crib attachment having a wire frame, said jumper and crib attachment constituting together a baby-crib or a baby-vehicle body, substantially as de-- ICO ence of two witnesses, the 8th day of March,
CHARLES H. JoNEs. [L s.]
