Abstract

A vulcanizing machine for shoes having a frame with a last pivotally mounted upon which is mounted the upper and the vamp to be vulcanized. A mold has two movable pieces and a fixed piece in which the last is subjected to the pressure of a press during vulcanization. A guide is supported by the frame having an independent front section and a sliding base is mounted on the independent section on which the last is mounted. The base is located automatically upon the pressure plate of the press and a mounting on the slide supports the two movable pieces of the mold. Means are provided for reciprocating the mounting and movable pieces towards and away from the fixed piece which encloses the last during vulcanization. The reciprocating means includes a piston of the press for raising and placing the last at the interior of the mold. The fixed piece has recesses and engraved designs for the sole of the shoe, and the two movable pieces have engraved designs for the welt and projecting portions to extend into the recesses when the mold is closed. Timing means control the operation with pedal means for starting the operation.

Inventor Attorneys SHOE VULCANIZING MA ClHINE The present invention relates to a shoe vulcanizing machine.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved machine for vulcanizing shoes which because of its automation features for different phases of the process permits securing important advantages over similar machines now in use.
With the above and other objects in view which will become apparent from the detailed description below, a preferred form of the invention is shown in the drawings in which:
FIG. 1 shows a side elevational view of the machine before commencing vulcanization.
FIG. 2 is a front elevational view showing the parts in the position occupied following that shown in FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a similar view showing the parts in a further position of operation.
FIG. 4 is a side view of the form used for mounting the upper and the vamp to be vulcanized.
FIG. 5 is a side view of one portion of the mold used for vulcanizing.
FIG. 5a is a front view of the assembled portions of the mold.
FIG. 6 is a side view of another portion of the mold.
FIG. 7 is a side view of one of the bolts which secure the union between each of the portions of the mold, or movable pieces, and the pieces by means of which the latter are pushed until they are rejoined upon the form which comprises the shoe to be vulcanized.
FIG. 8 is a view of the rods which produce the displacement of the pieces which push the half mold.
FIG. 9 is a perspective view of one of the two portions of a frame fixed upon a plate of the press, which supports the two half molds and serves as a sliding base, and shows the sliding pieces to which said half molds are united and FIG. 10 is a perspective view of a group of columns which support the pressure of the press.
As can be seen the mold is composed of three pieces; one piece 28 fixed to the press (FIG. 5) by the bolts 29 and upon which are engraved the designs of the sole, and two movable pieces 24 (FIG. 6) which close upon one another and upon the fixed piece and upon which are engraved the designs of the welt.
The fixed piece comprises four notches, one in each of the angles, and when the mold is closed encloses in these notches an equal number of projections upon the movable pieces.
The fixed piece and the movable pieces mentioned above which constitute the mold have upon FIGS. 2 and 3 the reference numerals 28 and 24 respectively and these numerals will be used to explain the operation of the machine.
The group of columns 19 is mounted upon a resistance or vaporization plate which is in turn disposed upon a plate of the press, and is anchored in the frame which is shown in FIG. 9 by means of the tie plates 31 as two pieces in their frontal portion and an axis 30 as well as a hole 32 which are provided in their rear portion.
Essentially the machine comprises a frame I upon which there is a guide 2 whose front section 3 is independent and can be coupled or uncoupled as desired with relation to the remainder of the guide.
The independent section is articulated upon the frame 1 and is capable of rising or descending while rotating about its articulation under the effect of the push or traction transmitted to it by the piston 4 of an oil hydraulic cylinder 5 articulated upon the frame of the machine. The cylinder can be operated by means of a pedal 6 which actuates a valve which distributes the fluid by means of two flexible conduits to one or the other of the chambers of the cylinder.
Upon the independent section 3 of the guide 2 there is a sliding base 7 which supports a form or last 8. When the independent section 3 is turned back and is located as a prolongation of the remainder of the guide 2 this sliding base catches by means of the usual arrangement 9 to the other movable piece I0 which is mounted upon the guide 2 and is connected to the piston 1111 of another oil double-action hydraulic cylinder H2. The cylinder is capable of driving the assembly in order to place it upon the base of the press.
The movable piece I0 which is driven by the piston ll of the cylinder 12 is provided with an abutment I3 which upon coming into contact with the arrangement at the end of the travel M actuates an automatic valve which up to this moment has allowed the fluid to pass through the conduit to to the front chamber of the cylinder ll2 ceases to send this fluid through such conduit and sends it through the other conduit 17 to the lower chamber of the cylinder 18 of the press. The result is that the piston of the cylinder lid is elevated and raises the entire assembly of the form 8, the columns l9 and the frames 20 and with the latter the pieces 211 which slide above and upon which are fixed the half molds 2 by the bolts 29.
When the entire assembly rises and because of the rods 22 which connect the pieces 21 to the frame of the machine these latter which slide upon the frames 20 tend automatically to approach one another and consequently to join the two portions 24 of the mold upon the form 3. The pressure of the half molds so united and which depends upon the pressure exerted by the press can be increased by means of two eccentrics 23 upon which are mounted the rods 22.
When the position described has been attained in which the piston of the press is located in its upper position and the half molds are closed upon the form 8 and the fixed piece 23 (FIG. 3) a clock mechanism 25 begins to operate which when a predetermined time has elapsed operates the automatic valve 15. This automatic valve sends the fluid into the upper chamber of the cylinder 18 of the press so that its piston descends and with it the entire assembly described. When the assembly returns to its initial position it acts upon another arrangement at the end of its travel 26 which by acting again upon the automatic valve 15 stops the introduction of fluid into the upper chamber of the cylinder Id of the press and will introduce it by the conduit 27 into the rear chamber of the cylinder 12. In this way the piston ll of the cylinder 12 will return the form 8 to its position upon the independent section 3 of the guide 2 while pushing it by means of the sliding piece I0.
Once the initial position of the form has been obtained and then acting upon the pedal 6, the independent section 3 will rise while rotating about its articulation above the frame I in order that the operator of the machine can conveniently change the finished shoe and replace it by another one nonvulcanized.
It is not judged necessary to prolong the description because any expert in this art understands perfectly the idea that is to be patented as well as the advantages which can be derived from its industrial use and which are along general lines the following:
I. The entire automatic operation of vulcanization.
2. A greater yield than the usual machine.
3. Structural simplicity which solves the more difficult breakdowns.
I claim:
I. A machine for vulcanizing footwear comprising a frame, a vertically operating pressure cylinder having a piston, a platform operated by said piston, a horizontal oleohydraulic cylinder for placing a last on said platform, a static sole mold located to coincide with a terminal of the last course, two mobile semimolds placed horizontally with respect to fixed points of said frame, a plurality of piston rods moving said semimolds toward each other when pushed upward by said piston, a baseplate section over which said last in load position is situated under pressure of a dual effect oleohydraulic cylinder for tilting said section around its rear, eccentrics cooperating with said piston rods to force said mobile semimolds to move relative to fixed points of said frame, a coupling system for said semimolds over the sole mold and two separating structures provided between said platform and said semimolds serving as sliding guides and rests during pressing, respectively, leaving a spacing between said last and said baseplate section for the each fastened to the side of said baseplate section, a tie rod with at least one opening joining the back of said two frames, two parallel guides having skids joined to said semimolds and said piston rods.
4. A machine for vulcanizing footwear according to claim 1 wherein a support structure is provided for said semimolds during vulcanization and pressing comprising a columned frame having columns emerging from a baseplate grouped in two parallel rows with flanges at the top.
5. A machine for vulcanizing footwear according to claim 4 wherein said support structure is located between two frames which constitute a guide which is fastened thereto by a pivot emerging from its rear in an opening provided in the tie rod joining the two guiding frames, and connected by flange screws.

Claims (5)

1. A machine for vulcanizing footwear comprising a frame, a vertically operating pressure cylinder having a piston, a platform operated by said piston, a horizontal oleohydraulic cylinder for placing a last on said platform, a static sole mold located to coincide with a terminal of the last course, two mobile semimolds placed horizontally with respect to fixed points of said frame, a plurality of piston rods moving said semimolds toward each other when pushed upward by said piston, a baseplate section over which said last in load position is situated under pressure of a dual effect oleohydraulic cylinder for tilting said section around its rear, eccentrics cooperating with said piston rods to force said mobile semimolds to move relative to fixed points of said frame, a coupling system for said semimolds over the sole mold and two separating structures provided between said platform and said semimolds serving as sliding guides and rests during pressing, respectively, leaving a spacing between said last and said baseplate section for the passage of air currents for cooling said platform on which vulcanization occurs.
2. A machine for vulcanizing footwear according to claim 1 wherein said coupling system between four rabbets at the corners of said sole mold, open on the outside, into which four salients thereof fit having the same dimensions and shape, two provided on each of said semimolds at the corners thereof.
3. A machine for vulcanizing footwear according to claim 1 wherein said semimolds comprise two symmetrical frames each fastened to the side of said baseplate section, a tie rod with at least one opening joining the back of said two frames, two parallel guides having skids joined to said semimolds and said piston rods.
4. A machine for vulcanizing footwear according to claim 1 wherein a support structure is provided for said semimolds during vulcanization and pressing comprising a columned frame having columns emerging from a baseplate grouped in two parallel rows with flanges at the top.
5. A machine for vulcanizing footwear according to claim 4 wherein said support structure is located between two frames which constitute a guide which is fastened thereto by a pivot emerging from its rear in an opening provided in the tie rod joining the two guiding frames, and connected by flange screws.
