Gilliam ABSTRACT: An artists easy compact easel having an adjustable canvas support extending from the back of a supporting cabinet. The cabinet is provided with a three-section adjustable top forming a palette having a white formica surface for mixing colors thereon and avoiding visual absorption of their intensities.
PATENTED mm FIG. I
INVENTOR MINNIE M. BAKER ARTISTS EASY COMPACT EASEL This invention relates to artists painting equipment in which the principal object is to conserve space easily and compactly in classrooms and small studios-any place where space saving is desired.
Another object of this invention is the built-in palette as the top of the painting cabinet; with two drop sides to enlarge the palette or to be used as areas for brushes and other painting supplies.
Another object of this invention is the white formica palette surface that will withstand the strongest cleaning agent, with the white surface helping in the mixing of various colors and values against it.
Still another object of this invention is that the easel and cabinet are combined, with a support rising at the back of the cabinet to hold the canvas.
IN THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING FIG. 1 shows the whole Artists' Easy Compact Easel."
FIG. 2 shows the swivel attached to the elongated upright support.
Referring to the drawing, the improved artist compact easel comprisesa base cabinet 15 having a door hingedly attached thereto; a shelf 11 for storing supplies thereon and a formica top 8 having extensions 9 foldably attached thereto; as by folding brackets 13 and hinges (not shown). The top is white formica which will withstand strong cleaning agents and provide a surface for mixing colors thereon which will avoid visual absorption of the colors intensities.
Attached to the cabinet 15 is an upright support 5 having an adjusting rack 6 thereon. The location of this support 5 on cabinet 15 may obviously vary.
A picture supporting platform 7 is provided with support means (not shown) to cooperate with the adjusting rack 6, whereby said platform is adapted to be adjusted for boards or canvases of various heights.
Attached to the upper end of the back support 5 is a swivel clamp/employing a thumbscrew for adjustably retaining the elongated arm 2 in a predetermined position. Attached to the forward end of said arm 2 is a clamp 3, comprising two spaced parallel plates and having a thumbscrew 4 for clamping a board or canvas between said plate through the action of the thumbscrew. Obviously the top extensions 9 can be used either as a palette or for holding paint and brushes, while the number of shelves and type of supply holding means within the cabinet may vary.
Representative embodiments of the invention are herein presented, but it will of course be appreciated that the inventor is susceptible to incorporation in still other forms coming equally within the scope of the appended claim.
