FRANK KELLOGG, OF BROOKLYN, NE\ VYORK, AND JAMES \V. PENROSE, OF
IASSAIO, NE\V JERSEY, ASSIGNORS TO THEMSELVES, AND JOHN B. HOFF- MAN, OF PASSAIO, NEXV JERSEY.
HOLDER FOR ADDRESS-CARDS 0R SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 362,842, dated May 10, 1887.
Application filed SPptemhcrS, 1886.
To all 107mm, it may concern.-
Be it known that we, FRANK KELLoGG, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, and J AMES W. PENROSE, of Passaic, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Holders for Address Cards or Labels upon RailwayCars, &c., of which the following is a specification.
Address-frames for railway-cars have been made, into which the card is introduced, and there is a cover to swing over the card, except the particular part indicating the destination.
Our improvements are made for lessening the weight of metal and the cost or" manufacture and for rendering the holder more elfi cient for the intended object.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the holder. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan at the line a a, and Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation at the line ;1 y.
The frame A is made of metal. The rim 1 thereof forms a light inclosnre and protection for the address-card or label B, that is placed inside the same, and the flange 2 rests against the wood-work at the side of the car, or other supporting device, and the ears receive 0 through them attachingscrews. The flange 2 stiffens the frame A and renders itsufficiently strong to allow of the use of cast iron in its construction.
The hinge-pieces 4 it are also cast on this Serial No. 212,051. (No model.)
frame A. They are upon the inside, so as to be behind the front edge of the rim 1, and hence protected by the same.
The swinging frame 0 is preferably of mal leablecast-iron, and it has cross-bars 6 within the rim 7, and there are projecting hingepieces 8, that pass in between thehinge-pieces 4 and receive through them the pivots or hinge-pins 10, to connect the parts, and on which the frame 0 is swung as it is closed upon the card or other article placed within the frame A and behind the swinging frame (3. The openings in the frame 0 may receive glass, 5 if desired. The helical springs S around the hinge-pins act to close the frame 0 and hold the address-card or similar article behind it.
To claim as our invention- The frame A, having a rim, 1, and flange 2, x and the hinge-pins 4 within the rim and pro tected by it, in combination with the swinging frame O, having cross-bars and the hingepicces 8, the pins of the hinges, and the helical springs around such hinge-pins for closing the swinging frame, substantially as set forth.
Signed by us this 4th day of September, A. D. 1886.
FRANK KELLOGG. JAMES W. PENROSE.
