ISAAC SHERCK AND JOSEPH BATIG, JR., OF FREMONT, OHIO, ASSIGNORS TO THE AMERICAN WAX PAPER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
APPARATUS FOR WAXING PAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 362,547, dated May 10, 1887.
Application filedMarch 15, 1886. Serial No. 195,320. (No model.)
To aZZwhom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ISAAC SHEROK and JOSEPH BATIG, J r., of Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and State of Ohio, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Waxing Paper and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it'appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to an improvementin apparatus for waxing paper.
The object is to provide simple and effective means for spraying wax in a soft liquid or melted state on paper or other material.
With these ends in View our invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
The accompanying drawing represents the apparatus in side elevation, partly in section.
A represents a reservoir, in which the wax is reduced to a liquid, soft, or melted state by means of a coiled pipe, B, heated by hot air.
or steam; or a series of pipes might be inserted in the reservoir as radiators; or the wax might be melted by a blast of hot air or steam beneath, or beneath and around, the reservoir. From the reservoir A the melted wax is conducted to the receptacle C through a pipe, D, provided with a stop-cock, d, to regulate its flow.
E represents the sprayer or sprayers, provided with a feed-pipeleading down into the receptacle C. A blower, F, is adapted to furnish a blast of hot or cold air to the sprayer or sprayers through a pipe, f.
The paper or other material, C, is led from a supply reel or basket, H, between a set of tensionrollers, I, mounted on shafts geared synchronously, and thence over the face of a metallic plate, K, where it receives the waxspray from the sprayer or Sprayers. From thence it leads between a pair or set of carrierrollers, L, mounted on shafts geared synchronously, and thence to a winding-reel, M. The plate K is kept at the proper temperature by means of a coil heat-radiator, N, or other suitable means, and the paper is heated, by'suitable means, on the side on which the wax is applied.
The operation of the apparatus is evident from the above description, and requires no further explanation.
By the above means the wax may be deposited on thepaper to any desired thickness and with great regularity, the rate at which the paper is made to travel or the moving of the mouth of the sprayer or sprayers nearer to or farther away from the paper serving to determine the thickness of the deposit.
It is evidentthat slight changes mightoe resorted to in the construction and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of our invention; hence we do not wish to limit ourselves strictly to the construction herein set forth; but,
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with the sprayer or sprayers and the reservoir for supplying melted wax to the sprayer or sprayers, of the metallic plate in front of the sprayer or sprayers and means for regulating the flow of the wax, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the sprayer or Sprayers and the supply-reservoir, of a feedpipe leading from the supply-reservoir to the sprayer or sprayers receptacle and means for regulating the flow of the wax, substantially as set forth;
In testimony whereof we have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing-witnesses.
' ISAAC SHERCK.
