A click spring having a V-shape is mounted in the apparatus to extend into the opening. A corresponding recess is formed in the cartridge, and the click spring is engageable with edges of the recess in the two positions.
CARTRIDGE-HOLDlNG DEVICE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a cinephotographic apparatus and more particularly a device for holding a cartridge in either of two operative positions in a cineprojector or camera using a removable cartridge which must be inserted therein to either of two operative positions.
In the cinematographic apparatus of the character described above, for example a cineprojector of the type using a cartridge which must be inserted therein to a projection or rewinding position, the cartridge must be held securely and correctly in either of the two positions and must be moved smoothly between the two positions. For this purpose, the conventional cartridge-holding device has two independent click stops, but the above problems have not been successfully solved.
In view of the'above, the primary object of the present invention is to provide a cartridge-holding device which can satisfactorily solve the above-described problems by providing at least one elongated recess for engagement with a click spring attached to the projector.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In brief, the present invention provides a cartridge-holding device for cartridges for cinephotographic apparatus of the type which must be inserted into the apparatus to either of two different operative positions comprising at least one elongated engaging recess formed in one sidewall of said cartridge in parallel with the direction of cartridge insertion and a click plate spring attached to the sidewall of the cartridge insertion chamber of the apparatus so as to extend one portion of said click plate spring into said chamber for engagement with said engaging recess, whereby said cartridge may be securely held in either of said two operative positions by the engagement of said click spring with either of the leading or trailing end face of said slot.
The above and other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent from the following description thereof with reference to the accompanying drawing.
BRIEF DESCRIPTIONOF THE DRAWING FIG. 1 is an exploded view of one illustrative embodiment of the present invention; and
FIGS. 2A and 2B illustrate cartridges held in two different operative positions respectively.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT A cartridge 1 to be inserted into for example a projector a in the direction indicated by the arrow A has sidewall la, a front wall lb, a rear wall 1c, an upper wall 1d and a bottom wall 1e and the configuration of a rectangular box. The front wall lb of the cartridge 1 has an opening and a film pressure plate 2 extends across this opening. Backwardly of the pressure plate 2 is formed a space into which is advanced a movable reflecting mirror (not shown) when the cartridge 1 is inserted into its projection position for reflecting the light from a light source to a gate aperture 2a of the pressure plate 2. Inside the cartridge l are disposed a supply reel 4, a takeup reel 5 and a winding and rewinding termination indicating device (not shown).
Two click springs 6 each having an inverted V-shaped bent On the other hand, in one sidewall la of the cartridge 1 are formed two elongated click recesses 8 spaced from each other by the distance equal to the spacing between the upper and lower click springs 6 and in parallel with each other and with the direction of insertion of the cartridge.
When the cartridge 1 is inserted to its projection position, the bent portion 6a of the click spring 6 engages with the trailing end face 8a of the slot 8 as shown in FIG. 2A so that the cartridge may be securely held in its projection position. On the other hand, when the cartridge 1 is retracted a small distance back to its rewinding position from its projection position, the bent portion 6a of the click spring 6 engages with the leading end face 811 of the click slot 8 so that the cartridge may be also securely held in its rewinding position. After rewinding, the cartridge may be removed in the direction indicated by the arrow B from the projector against the click springs 6.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that the cartridge 1 may be securely held in its projection and rewinding positions and there will be no resistance exerted to the cartridge when it is moved between the two positions so that it may inserted or removed smoothly, opposed to the case in which the conventional click stops are provided.
So far the two click springs 6 and their engaging recesses 8 have been described and illustrated as being provided only at one side of the cartridge, but the present invention is not limited to the above arrangement and number of the click springs and the engaging recesses. The number of them may be increased and they may be disposed on both of the sides of the cartridges if required.
We claim:
1. Holding device for a film cartridge having end walls and insertable to a projection position or a rewind position in a passageway in cinephotographic apparatus comprising at least one spring element having a straight portion mounted within said passageway and a V-shaped portion that projects into said passageway;
at least one elongated recess formed in said cartridge, said recess having a leading edge and a trailing edge, said edgcS being formed at substantially right angles to the end wall of the cartridge, said recess located to correspond with said spring element in the projection and rewind positions;
said V-shaped portion abutting said trailing edge of said recess when said cartridge is in the projection position; said V-shaped portion abutting said leading edge of said recess when said cartridge is in the rewind position; and said spring element being positionable within said recess and being free of contact of said trailing and leading edge when said cartridge moves between the projection and rewind positions.
2. Holding device according to claim 1 in which a pair of spring elements are mounted within said passageway, said spring elements spaced apart to correspond in location with a pair of recesses that are each located adjacent an opposing end walls.
