UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES E. GROSJEAN, OF FREDERIOKSBURG, OHIO.
FUNERAL-ADVERTISING DEVICE OR ANNUNCIATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 361,760, dated April 26, 1887.
Application filed January 25, 1885. Serial No. 225,445. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES E. GROSJEAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fredericksburg, in the county of \Vayne and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Funeral-AdvertisingDevices or Annunciators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The present invention relates to an improvement on the funeraladvertising device or annunciator embraced by my Patent No. 351,862, dated November 2, 1886, and comprises a frame having at its top a cord or ribbon by which it may be suspended, and at its bottom devices for attaching crape to give an appropriate effect to the annunciator, a card or paper on which the notice is printed or written being removably secured in the said frame behind a glass.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved annunciator; and Figs. 2 and 3 are back and sectional views, respectively, of
the same.
A denotes the frame, preferably made of sheet metal, and provided at its top with a cord or ribbon, a, and at its bottom with crapeattaching devices, shown in the present instance as looped pins 1), hanging loosely in written on a paper or card, a, placed behind a glass, d, and held in place by spring-pressed clips 6, bearing directly against the paper or card, or against a tablet, f, of sheet metal or other suitable material, placed behind the said paper or card. The clips 6, as herein shown, are pressed against the tablet f by springs g,soldered to the said clips and to the frame A.
When it is desired to change the notice or announcement, the clips are lifted or forced back from the tablet f, and the card or paper containing the notice may then be removed and replaced by another card or paper having the new notice.
The improved device above described is cheaper to make and more convenient in use than the device covered by my patent hereinbefore referred to, in which the notice was made up from movable words or letters held in a grooved tablet.
Having thus described my invention,l claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A funeral-advertising device or annunciator consisting of a suitable frame provided at its top with a suspending device, as a cord or ribbon, and at its bottom with crape-attaehing devices, combined with a'card or pa per removably secured in said frame and having a written or printed notice thereon, sub stantially as set forth.
'2. The combination, with the frame A and its suspending and crape-attaching devices, of the glass d, the card or paper 0, having the notice, the tablet f, and the spring-clips e, for removably securing the notice card or paper in the said frame, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES E. GROSJEAN.
Witnesses:
