TAG AND TAG-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 361,451, dated April 19, 1887.
Application filed December 15, 1886. Serial No. 221,698. (N0 model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be'it known that I, J OHN S. RATI-IBONE, residing at Asheville, in the county of Buncombe, State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful folded metal strip for application to tags, cards, or paper slips, and to be used as a handle or stick, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a folded metal strip, pointed or otherwise, and the application thereof to a tag, card, or paper slip, to be used as a stick or handle.
The attachment or fastening of the folded metal strip to a tag, card, or paper slip is accomplished by placing the tag, card, or paper slip between the folded metal, then to tightly compress the metal, and, finally, to slightly indent or punch the metal over the place where the tag, card, or paper slip isinserted, as, set forth in the drawings, viz:
Figure 1 shows the folded metal strip A. Fig. 2 shows the method of attachment or fastening (O C) of the folded metal strip A to a tag, card, or paper slip, B. Fig. 3 shows the combination of the folded metal strip A and the tag, card, or paper slip B.
The tag B may be of any suitable form, and
it is attached to the stick A, which consists of a folded piece of metal, by laying the edge of the tag in the fold of the metal stick and then 30 compressing the metal together and indenting it, as at O O. The end of the metal stick is preferably sharpened, so that it may readily be inpointed, as described, and a card or tag held between the folded portions of the strip by the indentations, substantially as described.
