Abstract
A lighting fixture having a removable glass cover pivotally linked to a wall mounted holder is disclosed. The pivotal linkage is in the form of a unitary rigid member preferably formed of a rigid but compressible synthetic resin such as nylon which has a forwardly extending portion removably fastened to the top wall of the glass cover and includes a spaced rearwardly extending flange and an intermediate portion joining the fastening section with the flange. The flange is insertable into a slot provided at the intersection of the top and front wall of the lamp fixture. The flange bears against the inner top wall and the bottom edge of the slot of the fixture while the intermediate portion bears against the front wall of the fixture which provides a cantilevered support of the cover in a first closed position. On rotation of the cover upwardly the flange pivots and rotates into engagement with the front wall of the fixture in a second open position. In the open position access to the sockets, bulbs and the inside of the cover is permitted.
Claims (6)
1. A lighting fixture including: a holder member comprising a housing having bottom and top walls joined by a front wall; a first slot formed in said front wall at the intersection with the top wall for receiving a linking member; a second longer slot formed in the top wall joining said first slot; means on said front wall for supporting at least one lamp socket; a light transmitting cover having a top wall and a front wall disposed over said holder said top wall having an aperture; linking means having a forward portion having a length smaller than said first slot and including a mechanical fastener inserted into said portion flush with the top face thereof, a rearward flange having a length longer than said forward portion and said second slot insertable into and rotatable within said first slot, said forward portion being joined to said flange such that the distance from an edge of the flange to the far edge of the forward portion is less than the length of said second slot; and means insertable through said aperture into said fastener for attaching the top wall of the cover to the forward portion of the linking means.
2. A lamp according to claim 1 in which said linking means comprises a unitary, rigid member formed from a synthetic plastic.
3. A lamp according to claim 2 in which said plastic unitary member comprises an enlarged flange section, a spaced, parallel, forwardly projecting ledge section having means for attachment to said cover and an intermediate section joining said flange and said ledge sections.
4. In a lamp fixture having an elongated translucent cover including a front wall and a top wall including a plurality of apertures and a wall mountable housing having a pair of oppositely facing horizontal L-shaped slots formed in the intersection of the front wall and the top wall of the housing, the combination therewith of a pair of pivotal linking members each comprising a unitary rigid member having: a horizontal flange section insertable into and rotatable within each of said slots, the flange section being longer than said slots and a pair of first and second flange sections having opposite ends engaged by the edges of the respective slots to prevent sidewards movement and removal from the slots when the members are attached to the cover; a forwardly projecting horizontal ledge section spaced from the flange section having a mechanical fastener inserted in the ledge section flush with the top surface thereof and below one of said apertures for attachment of said ledge section to said cover by means of a removable bolt member; and an intermediate vertical section joining each of said flange and ledge sections and having a length not less than the thickness of said cover.
5. A lighting fixture comprising: a holder member for attachment to a horizontal wall including a housing having bottom and top walls joined by a front wall; means on said front wall for supporting at least one lamp socket; a pair of first horizontal slots formed in said front wall at the intersection with said top wall for receiving a linking member; a second longer horizontal slot formed in said top wall joining each of said first slots, each of said second slots having one end coextensive with said first slot and each having a second end facing opposite ends of said housing; a light transmitting cover having a top wall and a front wall extending over the front wall of said holder and socket; and rotatable cover support And linking means comprising a pair of unitary rigid members having a rearwardly extending flange section, a forwardly projecting ledge section spaced therefrom for attachment to the top wall of said cover and an intermediate joining section having a length not less than the thickness of the top wall of said cover, said flange section being insertable into each of said second slots and bearing against the inner surface of the top wall of the housing to support said cover in closed position and being rotatable with said attached cover to an open position to engage the front wall of the housing to expose said sockets, said rearward flange having a horizontal extension larger than any of said slots and said forward portion being dimensioned to be disposed in said first slot and being joined to the rearward flange at a position such that the distance from an edge of the flange to the far edge of the forward portion is less than the length of said second slot and said ledge section being joined to said flange section by the intermediate joining section having an extension between said ledge and flange not less than the thickness of the top wall of said cover whereby said linking means are not removable from said oppositely facing second slots by rotation or lifting motion when attached to said linking means.
6. A lighting fixture according to claim 5 in which each of said linking means further includes at least one short prong extending from the upper end of intermediate joining section above the top wall of said cover for engaging and protecting of said cover during rotation into open position.
