Christian Attorney-Waters, Roditi, Schwartz & Nissen ABSTRACT: A bobbin carrier for circular knitting machines for hosiery is disclosed, which consists of a stand formed by a base portion and at least two vertical uprights, the assembly being completely independent from the knitting. machine proper.
- the ensuing description,
ROBIN-CARRIER FOR CIRCULAR KNITTING MACHINES This invention relates to a supporting member for bobbins, more particularly for circular knitting machines.
It is known that in the conventional circular knitting machines for hosiery, the supporting member for the bobbins is an integral part of the machine. Thus, the vibrations of the machine are transferred, with magnified amplitude, to the bobbin-carrying member, thus causing instability of the bobbins resting thereon and impairing the thread-braking action: as a matter of fact, the thread-braking devices cannot give a constant braking action when vibrations are present.
An object of the invention is to overcome the drawback mentioned above by providing a bobbin-carrying member which is in no way influenced by the vibrations of the machine thus enabling the thread-braking devices to effect their own braking action. 4 g
with this object in mind, it has been devised to provide a bobbin-supporting member for the bobbins intended to feed the machine, said member .being free of any mechanical connection with the machine and forming a self-contained, independent unit.
More particularly, the bobbin-supporting member has the form of a stand and comprises a base portions from which substantially vertical uprights project upwards which carry brackets at their upper portions; the uprights being held together by crossbeams, the whole structure being stiffened by guys held taut by means of threaded sleeves.
The bobbins are supported by spindles affixed on the brackets.
Other features of the invention will become apparent from which is given with reference to the accompanying drawing.
The single FIGURE of the drawing shows a perspective view of the device matched to any kind of hosiery knitting machine, the latter being shown in phantom in the drawing.
The reference numeral 20 generally indicates the bobbin supporting member in the form of a stand, for circular knitting machines for stockings made according to teachings of the present invention.
Said member is structurally formed by two resting feet, 2 and 3, from the intermediate portion of which vertical uprights 4 and 5 project upwardly.
The uprights 4 and 5 bear brackets 6 and 7, parallel to the feet 2 and 3, to which pins or rods are caused to project, adapted to carry spindles 14 for mounting the bobbins 15.
The threads of the bobbins 15 are passed through thread guides 16 and extend to braking members 17, to arrive then at the thread guides of the knitting machine, the latter being generally indicated at l in the drawing.
Furthermore, the uprights 4 and 5 are connected by two crossbeams 8 and 9 and the wholeassembly is rigidly connected by two diagonal guys 10 and 11 fastened to the crossbeams 8 and 9 and held taut by two screw-threaded sleeves l2 and 13. 1
The drawing clearly shows that the bobbin-supporting member 20 is arranged according to a median line of the machine 1 which coincides with the center line thereof. More particularly the machine is partially inserted between the uprights of the bobbin-carrying device whose brackets overlie the machine partially so as facilitate the feeding of the threads to the thread guides. Of course, the practical embodiment of the bobbin-supporting member implies no limitation to the scope of the invention, which consists in separating the bobbin carrier from the machine.
For example, a bobbin-supporting member can be envisaged, which can be applied to the ceiling, to a wall or to any vertical supporting structure.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege l claim are defined as follows:
I. A bob in carrier for a circular hosiery machine for stockings, said bobbin carrier being a self contained unit independent of connection with the hosiery machine and comprising a base, a pair of vertical uprights supported on said base and spaced from one another to permit at least partial insertion therebetween of said hosiery machine, brackets supported on said uprights at the upper ends thereof for overlying the hosiery machine, spindles on said brackets for supporting bobbins, thread guides on said brackets for guiding thread from the bobbins towards said hosiery machine, thread braking means supported on said brackets for imparting tension in said thread in its passage from the guides to the hosiery machine, upper and lower crossbeams, connecting said brackets, and guys tautly held between ,said crossbeams to provide a rigid assembly for thebobbin carrier.
2. A bobbin carrier as claimed in claim 1 comprising means for tensioning said guys.
3. A bobbin carrier as claimed in claim 2 wherein said base comprises a pair of parallel feet adapted for straddling the hosiery machine, each upright extending upwardly from a respective foot, said feet and brackets lying parallel to one another.
4. A bobbin carrier as claimed in claim 3 wherein each foot,
ture.
