Abstract

A support for securing a deodorizing bomb on the door of W.C. or the like premises and adapted to operate the bomb only upon closing of the door. To this end a projection secured to the door over the bomb is provided along its upper surface with two longitudinal slopes of opposite directions rising towards a common raised area. An operative part pivotally carried by an arm rigid with the door frame is adapted to run over said slopes in succession. Said part rocks freely during the opening of the door without depressing the projection engaged by it whereas the closing of the door urges the projection in the opposite direction against an abutment so that it cannot rock upwardly and constrains the projection to sink and operate the pusher knob on the bomb thereby to produce a spray of the deodorant contained in the bomb.

To this end a projection secured to the door over the bomb is provided along its upper surface with two longitudinal slopes of opposite directions rising towards a common raised area. An operative part pivotally carried by an arm rigid with the door frame is adapted to run over said slopes in succession. Said part rocks freely during the opening of the door without depressing the projection engaged by it whereas the closing of the door urges the projection in the opposite direction against an abutment so that it cannot rock upwardly and constrains the projection to sink and operate the pusher knob on the bomb thereby to produce a spray of the deodorant contained in the bomb.

AND THE LIKE naouonrzlno BOMBS Our invention has for its object an arrangement for deodorizing premises by means of an aerosol bomb fitted on the door of the premises and provided with a pusher knob the depression of which controls a projection of a deodorizing reagent contained in said bomb, whenever the door is closed.
Some of the known arrangements provide for operation of the bomb both upon opening and upon closing of the door, which means an unnecessary double operation which increases the consumption of the reagent and is objectionable for the person entering the premises. Other prior arrangements have been proposed, but their fitting is a difficult and expensive matter or leads to the execution of specially designed bombs.
Out invention has for its object an arrangement cutting out all such drawbacks, which arrangement is very simple and compact and may operate with all types of aerosol bombs sold nowadays while a very accurate adjustment of the amount of liquid projected at each operation may be obtained.
According to our invention, the support through which the door carries the bomb includes at its upper end a stop against the underside of which the bomb is urged upwardly so that the level at which the pusher knob is located may always be accurately defined with reference to the support. There is pivotally secured to said support a projection engaging loosely the pusher-knob under normal conditions while an arm secured to the frame of the door carries a member adapted to lower the projection on the support passing underneath it when the door is closed, said member being suspended to the arm in a manner such as to rock freely without acting on the projection when the door is opened, the closing of which produces thus the lowering of the projection on the support passing underneath saidmember whereby the pusher-knob of the bomb is depressed and a jet of reagent is obtained. The stationary arm on the door frame or preferably the projection pivotally secured to the support carries a screw adjusting the amount by which the pusher-knob is to be depressed.
The accompanying drawings illustrate by way of example an embodiment ofan arrangement according to our invention for cooperation with cylindrical bombs to be found on the market and which are of a standard diameter and of a variable length or height. 7

The support provided for the bomb is constituted in the case illustrated in FIG. 2 by a semicylindrical body I provided with an upper cover 2 of a semicircular shape notched centrally at 3 so as to afford a passage for the pusher knob of the bomb. the.upper edge H of the bomb abutting against the inner edge of the cover 2. The body of the support is provided at its lower end along one side and near its edge with a slot 4 in which may be hooked the clamping half-collar 5 through its welded bent end 50 and along the other side with a lug 6 carrying a screw 7 over which is threaded the other end 5b of the collar surrounding a small pin 8. Said other end and pin are provided with a perforation 9 through which said screw is adapted to pass. A knurled knob 10 in the shape of a nut is fitted over the projecting end of the screw 7 so as to clamp the bomb against the body and to hold it at the desired height in' contact with the cover 2, the pusher knob on the bomb extending through the notch 3 in the cover 2. The rear surface laof the body 1 is flat and merges into the surface of a lower extension of the body 1 in the shape theshape of a flat upright lb terminating with a horizontally bent section forming an incurved shoulder 11 so that the bomb clamped to the front by the half-collar 5 may engage to the rear the inner surface of the body I forming part of the same geometrical cylinder as the surface of the shoulder 11 which alsoencomp'asses the bomb. The unitary member 1-2-11 is provided with two vertically aligned slots 12 and 12 affording a passage for the screws securing said member to the door leaf, said slots extending vertically so as to allow said member forming the completesupport to be adjusted vertically with reference to the upper edge of the door leaf.
The cover 2 of the support body 1 carries over its upper surface and in its medial axial plane an upstanding lug 13 to which the projection 15 adapted to depress the pusher knob of the bomb is pivotally secured through its rear forked end as provided by a spindle passing through the ports 13a and 15 a formed in the lug and in the arms of said forked end. Said projection I5 is provided with an upper flat surface 16 followed by a downwardly directed slope 17. When the bomb is fitted in its support, the surface 16 of the projection 15 which rests freely over the pusher knob should form a slope slightly rising towards the free end of the projection with a difference in level ofsay 2 to 3 mm. between the two ends ofsaid surface 16 as clearly shown in FIG. 4 wherein P designates the door leaf andC its stationary frame.
The arm 18 extending above the projection 16 when the door P is in its closed position (FIG. 1) is secured to the upper crossmember of the door frame C by means of screws extending through the ports in the flanges 18a of the arm 18. The latter ends to the front with a forked section 19 carrying in its ports 19a a spindle 20 (FIG. 3) to which a knurled wheel 21 is freely suspended through an eccentric point 21a. In a tapped sloping opening formed in the arm 18 there is screwed a screw 22 the tip of which extends between the arms of the fork 19 in registry with the edge of the knurled wheel 21. Said screw prevents any oscillation of the knurled wheel when the door is closed and it adjusts the amount by which the pusher knob is to be depressed. It will be readily understood that the direction of the screw axis should pass clearly underneath the point through which the knurled wheel is suspended so that the oscillations of the latter in the direction of the arrow f(FIG. I) may be limited through its abutment against the tip of the screw 22 whereas such oscillations are free in the opposite direction. The knurled wheel acts therefore in the first case so as to urge the projection 15 downwardly while it recedes in the second case and is inoperative.
FIGS. 3 and 4 illustrate the operation of the arrangement. In FIG. 3 the different parts occupy a position such that the door being urged in a closing direction illustrated by the arrow F, the knurled wheel 21 engages the slightly rising slope on the surface 16; the valve controlled by the pusher knob of the bomb opens therefore gradually until the knurled wheel sinks along th further, more marked downwardly sloping surface I7 so that the valve is allowed to close, as illustrated in FIG. 4
FIGS. 5 to 9 illustrate a preferred embodiment differing from the embodiment disclosed hereinabove through the fact that the adjusting screw 25 instead of being carried by the arm secured to the door frame so as to act on the knurled wheel is fitted in the projection pivotally secured to the support so as to act directly on the pusher knob; said arrangement provides a finer and more reliable adjustment than in the preceding case.
The arm 18' (FIG. 5) carrying the knurled wheel 21' is of av simpler shape, said wheel engaging at the rear the bottom 24 of the fork formed in the arm 18'. The adjusting screw is carried in the present case (FIGS. 6 and 9) by the projection 15' pivotally secured to the support or body 1 and it extends through the front end 17' of said projection 15', the screw being entirely housed in the tapping provided in the latter so as not to oppose the progression of the knurled wheel. The tip of the screw projects underneath the projection and rests freely under normal conditions on the pusher knob on the bomb as illustrated in FIG. 7.
Since the upper surface of the bomb may not be flat, there is provided preferably over said upper surface and round the pusher knob stem a ring H engaging the underside of the cover 2 of the support, if desired. The inner cylindrical surface of said support registers with the inner cylindrical surface of the lower extension lb of the body of said support so as to form a bearing (HO. 8) for a cylindrical bomb since all conventional bombs are of the same diameter. The holes provided for the screws securing the support to the door P are given diameters matching the screw diameters as shown at 26, no adjustment being provided heightwise. It is sufficient as a matter of fact when setting the support I in its accurate position on the door and the arm 18' on the door frame, to make use of a stencil provided with perforations at those points which register with the locations of the securing screws to be inserted in the door and in its frame, whereby said locations may be marked on the latter.
It is possible without widening the scope of the invention as defined in the accompanying claims to replace a number of parts of the embodiment described by equivalent pans; for instance the knurled wheel may be replaced by a projection pivotally secured to the support in a manner such that it is held in a vertical position when the force acting on it is exerted in a given direction while it pivots freely under the action of a force exerted in the opposite direction. 1
What we claim is:
1. A support securing on the door and door frame of W.C. and the like-premises a deodorizing bomb provided with a pusher knob controlling the release of the contents of said bomb, said support comprising a body fitted on the door and adapted to carry the bomb, a projection pivotally secured to the door and body system and adapted to rest loosely on the pusher knob of the bomb carried by the body, the upper surface of said projection being provided with two longitudinally aligned slopes rising in opposite directions towards an upper common central area, a member carried by the door frame, an operative stop carried by said member and adapted to run over said upper surface when'the door is operated and to be passage of the stop over said upper area and to make said projection actuate the pusher knob on the bomb.
2. A support as claimed in claim 1 wherein the support includes at its upper end a horizontal cover defining the location of the upper end of the bomb, said cover being recessed to afford a passageway for the pusher knob of the bomb.
3. A support as claimed in claim 1 wherein the operative stop is pivotally secured to the member on the door frame in a manner such that it is free to rock in one direction and is held against rotation by the abutment in the opposite direction registering with the closing direction of the door to ensure the sinking of the projection.
4. A support as claimed in claim 1 wherein the operative part is constituted by a knurled wheel and the member carrying it terminates outwardly with a fork between the arms of which the wheel is revolvably secured through an eccentric point of said wheel, the abutment being formed by the inner terminal surface of the forked end of the carrier member.
5. A support as claimed in claim 1 wherein the operative part is constituted by a knurled wheel and the member carrying it terminates outwardly with a fork between the arms of which the wheel is revolvably secured through an eccentric point of said wheel and a screw passing through said forked end to project by an adjustable extent towards the wheel periphery forms the abutment for the latter.
6. A support as claimed in claim 1 comprising an adjustable screw screwed through the projection and adapted to engage the pusher knob of the bomb u on sinking of the projection.
7. A support as claimed in c aim 1 wherein the body is provided with an inner part cylindrical surface matching half the periphery of the bomb and includes a detachable collar adapted to engage the other half periphery of the bomb to hold the latter in position, means slidingly guiding the bomb vertically along said part cylindrical surface and means at the upper end of said part cylindrical surface defining the operative position of the bomb.

Claims (7)

1. A support securing on the door and door frame of W.C. and the like-premises a deodorizing bomb provided with a pusher knob controlling the release of the contents of said bomb, said support comprising a body fitted on the door and adapted to carry the bomb, a projection pivotally secured to the door and body system and adapted to rest loosely on the pusher knob of the bomb carried by the body, the upper surface of said projection being provided with two longitudinally aligned slopes rising in opposite directions towards an upper common central area, a member carried by the door frame, an operative stop carried by said member and adapted to run over said upper surface when the door is operated and to be shifted away by said surface for one direction of movement of the door and an abutment on said member preventing the movement of the stop when the door is operated in the other direction thereby to constrain the projection to sink upon passage of the stop over said upper area and to make said projection actuate the pusher knob on the bomb.
2. A support as claimed in claim 1 wherein the support includes at its upper end a horizontal cover defining the location of the upper end of the bomb, said cover being recessed to afford a passageway for the pusher knob of the bomb.
3. A support as claimed in claim 1 wherein the operative stop is pivotally secured to the member on the door frame in a manner such that it is free to rock in one direction and is held against rotation by the abutment in the opposite direction registering with the closing direction of the door to ensure the sinking of the projection.
4. A support as claimed in claim 1 wherein the operative part is constituted by a knurled wheel and the member carrying it terminates outwardly with a fork between the arms of which the wheel is revolvably secured through an eccentric point of said wheel, the abutment being formed by the inner terminal surface of the forked end of the carrier member.
5. A support as claimed in claim 1 wherein the operative part is constituted by a knurled wheel and the member carrying it terminates outwardly with a fork between the arms of which the wheel is revolvably secured through an eccentric point of said wheel and a screw passing through said forked end to project by an adjustable extent towards the wheel periphery forms the abutment for the latter.
6. A support as claimed in claim 1 comprising an adjustable screw screwed through the projection and adapted to engage the pusher knob of the bomb upon sinking of the projection.
7. A support as claimed in claim 1 wherein the body is provided with an inner part cylindrical surface matching half the periphery of the bomb and includes a detachable collar adapted to engage the other half periphery of the bomb to hold the latter in position, means slidingly guiding the bomb vertically along said part cylindrical surface and means at the upper end of said part cylindrical surface defining the operative position of the bomb.
