aMPRo'vEM ENT I'N MILLsiroNE-onsssss.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 35,858, dated ,July Fl, 1862.
To aZZ whom it may concerm.
Beit known that I, JOSEPH SEDGEBEER, of the cityxofCincinnati, in the county o'f Hainilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Millstone-Dresses5v and I hereby declarethat the followingv is a full, clear, and exact description of the same', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and letters'of reference marked thereon, whi'ch form part of this specification. My invent-ion has reference only to the form and design of what is known as the mil l stone-dress, and is applicable only to mills with castiron grinding surfaces. The objects` attained byl adopting the particular form ofdress described below are theproductiou of a V superior flour or` meal and. the avoidance of choking or of' the discharge of incompleteiyground grain.
In orderthat others duly skilled'may he enabled tounderstand and construct my invention, I shall proceedto describe itin detail. In the accompanying drawings, Figurel is a vertical section through the two grinding- "plates, showingl the lowes-plate 4 as revolving and thenpper one as stationary.` Fig'. 2 is a geometrical projection of a portion of the face of lower plate, .the face of upper one being y precisely the same. .1 y
Like letters of reference designate like parts I i in both the drawings.
' A 'represents the ,lower grinding-platega,
fthe spindle going up through B,'the upper plate. C is an indication of the hopper. To-
, ward the eye of the plates the surface is formed somewhat conical, curving upward. y
Referring, now, to Fig. 2, it will be l'seen that the design for dress consists of a series of Y- shaped figures, .arranged one above the other in radial lines from the periphery to nearly midway from periphery to eye; afterward on everyalternate radial line of gureslarger sized Ys are .formedfas may be seen on reference to Fig. l2. It will alsobe seen that the points of wings of Ys in one radial line tin partly tothe spaces between the Ys in another radial line, thus forming a zigzag passage outward from the eye of the plate.
The advantages of my improved dre-ss are.
first, the gradual -and 'effectual man-ner in,
A mill-dress consisting, essentially, of a se-V ries of graduated Yshaped figures arranged' radiallyupon the grinding plate, whether horizontal, vertical,or conical, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof Ihave hereuntoannexed y Witnesses:
Josnrn snee-Essen..
' y Witnesses:
Win. GLoUeH, y y GEO. PYBURN.
