To all whom, t may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLEs Swrnscon, of Clinton, in the county of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Metallic Lathing, of which the following is a description suliicientlyrfull, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of a web or piece of my improved lathing, and Figs. 2, 3, and et perspective views showing modifications of the strip detached.

Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different gures of the drawings.

My invention :relates to that class of metallic lathing which is composed wholly or in part of wire-cloth; and it consists in certain novel details of construction, as hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, the object being to produce a more effective and otherwise desirable device of this character than is now in ordinary use.

The nature of the improvement will be readily understood by all conversant with such matters from the following` explanation.

In the drawings, A represents the web considered as a whole, B the warpwires, and C the filling-wires, these being interwoven in the usual manner. Disposed at intervals in the web there are strips of metal, D, preferably about one foot apart, it being deemed unnecessary to show but one in order to illustrate theimprovement. These strips, respectively, take the places of one or more fillingwires or warp-wires, as the case may be, but preferably filling, and are provided at intervals with projections a2, which rise above the plane of the body of the web, and may be of any suitable height or form, the object of the Serial No. 213,094. (No model.)

projections being to serve as furrings to elevate the body of the web from the wall, ceiling, or other part of the building to which the lathing is attached, and thereby enable the plaster to be properly applied.

The strips are preferably inserted in the web as it is woven, being secured therein by being interwoven with the warp-wires or filling-wires, as the case may be, which pass alternately above and below them.

The projections x are provided with holes m, for receiving the supporting-nails. The holes may, however, be omitted, if desired, and punched by any suit-able implement for that purpose as the lathing is put up.

When the strips are very thin, the nails may be driven through the strips without first punching the holes therefor. The object of the strips is to assist in sustaining the web of lathing, render it iirmer, and keep it in proper position after the plastering is applied.

As I have made a web of metallic latliing provided at intervals with metallic strips the subject-matter of another application for Letters Patent, I do not herein claim the same broadly.

Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a web of metallic lathing provided at intervals with strips, said strips having projections which rise above the plane of the body of the web, and are adapted to serve as furring, substantially as described.

2. As an improved article of manufacture, a web of metallic lathing provided at intervals with strips D, said strips having projections Which are provided with nail-holes, and which rise above the plane of the body of the web, substantially as set forth.
